Chapter 3 The Book Of Mischief by Johnny

The waterfall was an incredible sight: it glistened and twinkled; mythical pool at the bottom held charming fish; and the caves at the side had vast, flickering torches.

“Is anyone there?” whispered Maddie. But all she heard was the splashing of the waterfall. She walked a bit more. The beautiful blackbirds of the different trees tweeted above her head. She thought she had stepped into a tense dream.

Maddie was searching for the treasure she drew in the book of mischief. There was no sign of a golden retriever. It felt wrong. Then she heard something…

Something in the cave was making peculiar sounds and footsteps. She peered round the oak tree and put her eyes on the cave. But all there was were the odd untouched torches. There was another little roar. It was repetitious now. But Maddie couldn’t spot any strange animal.

Then, she went inside. There was a frightening shadow behind the corner. Maddie couldn’t hesitate any longer. She sprinted as fast as she could back to the door.

But nothing was there. Except more hills and forest. Maddie startled. “Come back,” said a voice behind her.
