The crying Child

The Crying Child

What are endless?

An hour every time you look at the clock during the night or the light-blue sky stretching through the land during the boiling summer holidays.

What are alone?

A crying child who has lost her way and left in the cold, winter night, a thrown away box flattening sadly on the stony floor, and an argument with your family and they have left you alone.

What are Contented?

A cheerful family chuckling in their tiny, yellow cottage or a vase full of daffodils singing in the sunlight.

What are Short?

A nearly run out pen, the last day of your school and a 4-minute art-club.

What are long?

A never-ending staircase, a long hissing cobra and the long water-pipe hidden under the ground.

What are empty?

A forgotten thought, the classroom during the summer and a lonely child.

What are full?

A mind full of excitement of going to the fun-fair,  a bowl full of hot biscuits and a room of

giggling squirrels swirling around.

  1. Well done Soyun, you have created some interesting images. I think the picture of the empty classroom is very powerful, schools certainly are silent spaces in the holidays.

  2. Hi Soyun, I really liked the sentence “A cheerful family chuckling in their tiny, yellow cottage or a vase full of daffodils singing in the sunlight.”
