When The snow Falls
Chapter 4 The next day the cold winter snow started to fall. The soft snow blanketed the ground and the lakes froze over like ice rinks. Lois started to worry, it was going to be impossible to find a mute swan in all this snow. Lois walked back into the house, to find Miss Bennet packing two bags, one of the bags were Lois’s that she probably found upstairs. She packed blankets, snacks, and navigation tools. In fact, she even thought of bringing back up clothes! She even brought a tent! How far away was her brothers house? ”When do we leave the house?” asked Lois. ”Tomorrow morning. 8 O’clock sharp. So you better be up at seven-thirty, to get ready for the day. We have a long journey ahead of us.” Miss Bennet replied. The next day, Lois woke up at seven-thirty; she had set an alarm the day before. She got got dressed, ate a quick breakfast – porridge of course – and washed her face ready for the day. Then they set off down the frosted road. They battled cold, bitter winds, and fought through frozen forests. Ten tired hours later, it was night time, and Lois finally understood why Miss Bennet had brought the tents. We woke up the next day, once again at seven-thirty. However, it only took them another three hours before the use was finally in sight. The house was a small cabin, that was dark brown, and had vines hanging from rotting walls. They were still a couple minutes away when Lois asked if they could take a break. Her legs were aching and she was really tired, no wonder she was tired, she wakes up at seven-thirty! They both walked up to the door, Lois was shivery from the cold and with worry. Miss Bennet stood tall, only anger visible on her face. Miss Bennet knocked on the door. Lois was surprised that the door did not fall into the room. Although, three seconds later it did so. The house was clearly in a very bad state. A man appeared. ”Sister.” growled the man. ”Brother.” Miss Bennet said bitterly. Miss Bennet looks at Lois. ”Is this the man you saw?” she asked, curious to find out. ”Yes.” Lois replied quietly. Miss Bennet looked back at her brother, with a nasty glare. ”Did you find a mute swan in the forest two days ago, with this little girl?” Miss Bennet spat, pulling Lois from behind her. ”Maybe.” growled the man with a poker face. ”So you have.” Miss Bennet said sharply, looking straight through his poker face and seeing a smile. ”Where is she?” The man said nothing. ”Where is she?” Miss Bennet hissed. He finally said… ”In the house.” ”You lie. Where is she?” ”In the forest.” he uttered. A sigh followed behind. Miss Bennet looked at Lois; they ran. Through the trees, and bushes. They found a cage built of leftover scraps of metal then…. Caroline.
