Outside, the snow fell heavily. Inside, the fire danced.
Outside, the children played happily. Inside, the teachers marked the books.
Outside, the girl was happy. Inside, she was miserable.

Cuddles at night
What are smooth? My dog’s tongue when he licks the palm of my hand, my dog’s fur when he cuddles me at night and my bedding when it’s been washed.
What are rough? The roof of Dexter’s mouth when I brush his teeth, my peeling skin when I’ve been in the sun for too long and a rhinoceros skin when they come out of the water.
What are full? My brain at the end of a school day, my stomach after lunch and my heart bursting with love for my family.
What are empty? Water bottles after a hike up Snowdon, a classroom before the start of a school day and my brain when I’ve ran out of ideas for this poem.
What are cold? Snowflakes falling gently, a cold shoulder and a intense snow ball fight.
What are hot? A ghost chilli pepper, lava from a volcano and a mouthful of harsh words.
I have never seen a graceful swan swimming in the gorgeous galaxy but I have seen a black swan scavenging at Pennigton flash, chasing children for bread
I have never surfed on a tsunami but I have rode in a natural wave pool that was located in the far corners in the Pacific Ocean
I have never captured a lightning bolt sizzling in my hands but I have been in a metal box during a lightning storm
I have never ridden on an elephants back but I have ridden on a pony’s back when I was five
I have never held the burning hot sun in my hands but I have burnt my hand on a hot tray
I have never climbed Mount Everest but I have climbed Green Hill on a cold snowy day
I have never jumped of a cliff into the sea but I have jumped of my house roof onto the trampoline with my dad and sister
I have never climbed a oak tree but I have climbed a apple tree to get apples
Cold, Snowy Day
I want to paint…
The memory of me and Isabelle dancing delightfully in the care home for our Great Grandma Jones
The sound of everybody in the care home clapping and laughing joyfully
The sound of me and Isabelle enjoying ourselves
The look on people’s faces once we finished the nursery rhymes
The sound of people voting what nursery rhyme or dance they want
I want to paint…
The memory of me and my family watching the amazing Strictly Come Dancing on a Saturday night
The memory of cute Maisie being born on a cold, snowy day
The sound of me, mum and Isabelle laughing when we had a relaxing spa day during lockdown
The look of excitement on everyone’s faces on Christmas Day when eating Christmas dinner and opening presents
