Leave Me the Mask

Leave Me The Mask

Leave me the mask

The one full of pain

That is scarred and wounded

Hobbling along across the cut grass.

Leave me the mask

The one full forests

Hooting and howling in the night sky

Crunchy brown leaves falling around.

Leave me the mask

The one full of fire

Spitting and sparking as lightning strikes

Wiping out anything in its path.

Leave me the mask

The one full of winter

Pitting and patting falling rain

The wonderful smell of burnt turkey

Early in the morning.

Leave me the mask

The one full of hope

The cries turn to laughter on Christmas morning

As in the flick of a switch,

Everything turns from evil to good.

the mask of joy

The Mask of Joy

If you look at the world around you

and see plastic pollution,

wars in Ukraine,

squabbing politicians,

troubled people fighting

and rainforests dying

You could put on your mask of joy

and listen to the laughter of the crows,

to the sea swishing in the shingle.

You could feel the swift of air

and marvel in the mystery

of life swirling through the trees.

And once you feel more cheerful,

you can take off your mask

and hide it away safely

so it’s there whenever you might need it.

The Masks of Mother Nature

THe Masks of Mother Nature

I put on the masks of mother nature

and the light shimmered through the dead trees

As the doves sang high in the pines.

I put on the masks of wild

and remembered the importance of bees.

I thought of wildfire and imagined

animals screaming for help

I put on the masks of insects

as spiders shivered down my spine

and beetles scuttled and chomped

the damp, musty earth.

I put on the mask of the fox

and I skulled through fields

with twitching whiskers

as the sun set below the horizon.

The Masks of villainy

THE MASKS OF VILLAINY

I wore Medusa’s mask

and felt snakes slither over my head

and her long fingernails scratch my arm.

I wore Jafar’s mask and

his staff struck me like a lightning bolt

aa Iago’s beak bit me, drawing blood.

I wore Cruella’s mask

and her spotted coat swished in my face

as her callous cackle ripped through the air.

I wore Scar’s mask and

felt the desperate danger of his growl

and feared his long talons scraping my skin.

I put on the Mask of Colours

I Put on the Mask of Colours

I put on the mask of red

And the scent of strawberries surrounded me

Distant flames roared

And my heart was filled with anger.

I put on the mask of blue

And I saw the bouncing bluebells,

I heard the sea crashing

Also tasted the sweetest of blueberries.

I put on the mask of yellow

And I heard the tweet from a blackbird’s beak,

I saw daffodils swaying in the field

And felt the smooth sand beneath my feet.

The Mask of Seasons

The Mask of Seasons

I wore the mask of summer and saw

a sun blazing hot in the sky like

an oven hard at work.

I wore the mask of autumn and heard

the leaves crunching

beneath my purple boots.

I wore the mask of winter and felt

the spark of ice

on my naked finger tips.

I wore the mask of spring and smelt

the sour smell of daffodils like a

pure tingle of fear.

Mask of Darkness

Mask of Darkness

I wore the black mask

and saw the devil’s eye

staring back at me.

I wore a murky mask

and saw the shadows of monsters

under my bed.

I wore the mask of fear

and heard the screams of children

echoing before me.

I wore the midnight mask

and saw darkness

stand silently, waiting.

I wore the twilight mask

and saw swirling smoke

as a dark figure walked towards me.

The Mask of Months

I wore a mask of January

And I thought of new beginnings.

I wore a mask of February

And celebrated love.

I wore a mask of March

And ate a fresh-baked pie.

I wore a mask of April

And played pranks on my friends.

I wore a mask of May

And went to Harry’s birthday

And ate chocolate cake.

I wore a mask of June.

I was free from school

And played with friends down the lane.

I wore a mask of July

And had a picnic with my family,

The sandwiches curling from the sun.

I wore a mask of August

And celebrated llamas day.

I wore a mask of September

And knew the harvest would come soon.

I wore a mask of October

And cake and presents awaited me.

I wore a mask of November

And went to Milford for firework night,

Colours exploding in the sky.

I wore a mask of December

And trembled with excitement,

Wondering if Santa had been.

I Put on a Mask of Seasons

I put on a mask of spring and

suddenly joy was in my heart

and the primroses were blooming.

I put on a mask of summer

and vanilla ice cream was

dripping down my shirt.

I put on a mask of autumn

and I saw leaves falling down from

the oak trees onto the soft brown earth.

I put on a mask of winter

and snow was swirling through the sky

and the cold nipped at my nose.
