Dear Mother ,
Thank you mother for the jacket potato and the scotch it had kept me right warm. In the train it was very small and everybody on the train was squashed.I didn’t even have a place to move my hand. I hated the journey because the person I sat next to only talked about boring stuff. After a long time, I had arrived. It was nothing like the city. The houses were very small and made out of mud as well as the streets.
Once we got there, all the children got off the train and Miss Heyes got us all lined up and then she took us to a long valley where lots of grown ups came and chose what children they wanted. I was the last one to be chosen probably because I was wearing my pajamas.
Anyways, I got picked by Mrs Nelson (she is a very nice woman) and I am staying at Ribchester in a cottage. I am staying with a good friend of mine you might know. Her name is Ivy. We are going to live with some other people but I don’t really know anyone. One of the guys there who was probably our age, he had a big shiner on his eye and I think we are staying with him (Mrs Nelson had chosen me, Ivy and the guy with shiner). She made us some pasta but it wasn’t as good as your pasta and she gave us a hot cuppa which was lovely.
The cottage room we are staying in looks very small but from the inside it is pretty big. Me and Ivy are going to share a room but there is only one bed so I guess I am going to be sleeping on the floor and Jone (the guy with a shiner). We have one bathroom that we are going to share but here it is nothing like home. We all have tv with three channels which I love. In my room I always pray for dad. I hope he beats Mr ******.
The good thing here is that Mrs Nelson has lots of board games and also we have lots of blankets for the night because It is freezin in the village. The food is also really good but like I said it is not as good as your food. I love that everyone has spent a lot of time with each other since the war. Also I am happy because I haven’t really seen Ivy for a long time.
The village I am staying at is called Ribchester and the street is called Beckham’s street. I thought it was going to big but it is actually really small. It’s probably 10 times smaller than back at home. Sometimes Mrs Nelson’s friends come and bring really good food. One other thing is there are not a lot of people here and Mrs Nelson knows everyone here.
Mrs Nelson wakes us up at 8:30 and gets ready for school. The cool thing is that we get to wear our own clothes. The school is very tiny and It is not even close to the one that I go to. The teachers are really nice unlike the ones back at home. I have two or three friends who are evacuees, just some of them are not. I think nearly the whole school is evacuees.
I don’t know how I am going to survive without you mother and father. I wish I could see you and I hope everyone is okay back and tell them that I miss them a lot. I hope dad beats Mr ****** and tell dad I pray for him all the time. Please write back to me.
Your lovely son-Lucas
