The Glimmer Of The Sea – by Marlena

What are shiny? The glimmer of the sea, a polished diamond and an eye’s smile.

What are dull ? Shadows creeping in the dark, a grey life and a boring lesson.

What are warm? A summer’s day, a friendly smile and a woolly jumper.

What are cold? The light of the moon, a block of ice and my mother’s hands.

What are lonely? A solitary tree, a bird without a song and a hollow heart.

What are together? A perfect match, a pair of boots and a cluster of friends.

What are thin? A greyhound’s waist, a workman’s fingers and hope when all seems lost.

What are thick? A two-hundred year old tree, the feeling of envy and the width of the world.

What are deep? Footprints in the thick snow, the Mariana Trench and emotions.

What are shallow? Rock pools, the tide when out and pride.

I want to paint…poem

I want to paint the warm embrace of a warm fire and a mug of hot tea waiting for me.

I want to paint my friend’s labrador sticking his barking head out of a cat flap as the mailman walks by and joy spreading through the streets.

I want to paint the moment when the crimson sun appears out from the calm, blue ocean.

I want to paint the sound of a blue macaw squawking as dawn breaks over the vast jungle.

I want to paint the impossibility of worlds clashing like colours mixing on a paint pallet.

I want to paint the smell of a rose, its perfect petals shimmering like sequins in the morning sun.

I want to paint a mighty oak, its leaves swaying in the gentle breeze and its acorns falling like stones to the floor.

I want to paint birds swooping, dancing through the trees, singing in unison and waking up the world.

I want to paint clouds swirling overhead as a vicious storm begins to brew.

I want to paint the moment when the door to escape sorrow is opened to the world.

I want to paint the curtain falling at the end of a play.
