Joe Haylock hadn’t wanted to leave home. He was in his bedroom(the attic) and glared out the window. All he could see was a snow covered field. The room smelt damp as it was wet from the windows not being open. This room was where Mrs Butcher’s son slept before he went to fight. Mrs Butcher didn’t like speaking about her son. Joe then knew not to talk about war.
Joe’s first day at school had flew past. His teacher wasn’t perfect but good enough. He was called Mr Leed. After a day, Mr Leed found out that Joe wasn’t really good at anything! Joe sits at the back of the school room(which is probably why he can’t do anything). His writing looked like a couple of scribbles. Joe was always sad until the school bell rang and he flew out of the door.
Weeks kept coming and going but Joe had a routine to keep him busy every day. The day was mostly school but when he got home, he would do lots of chores. Always the same things. Before you knew it, winter had been and gone. Spring had then arrived and Joe had a new chore which was to pick the crops from the nearby field. He didn’t even know some of the crops existed! He took the eggs from the chickens every so often and he also had to milk the cow every day.
The moon shone down at the floor and the stars twinkled! It was a really dark night. Lanterns were lighting up the streets and it looked beautiful. Joe kept thinking that zombies are going to attack him but he knew they weren’t real. He got to scared and ran back to Mrs Butcher.
Before he got back to his new home, a tree of berries shook without a little hush of wind! Joe smelt something smelly and meaty. Two red eyes appeared through holes and he heard a ‘roarrr’. It was enormous! Joe screamed. His mum already knew this huge animal but joe didn’t know Mrs Butcher whispered “Meet Clara, she’s a cheetah!” “I found her years ago!”
Clara started walking up to Joe. He was petrified.
