The watch that goes in back in time and forward

Chapter 2

Buckingham palace stood silent as Mavis and Wendy crept into the gloomy shadow of the massive house. Quickly, the girl and the mechanimal leaped over the gates and pounded into the house. Then, very sneakily, they wandered up the stairs into a dark bedroom which was full of dirty clothes all over the floor. The wallpaper was ripping off. It sounded like a cat was in the room and it was scratching the wallpaper off. They couldn’t find the watch(that could go forward and backwards in time). So, they bounded into another room where they saw Mavis’s dad’s greatest ever rival. He was called PROFESSOR PONELOPE. Suddenly, Mavis caught a glimpse of the watch and risked the jump of getting caught or not. They both got caught and were put in the coal shed just outside the house. There was no escape. They were locked in…

End of chapter 1

“He’s right” squeaked Shadow. “We need to get back to Thorn house and save it before the bad people get it.”

Chapter 2

Thorn House stood silent. Ava peered up to her once-welcome bedroom. But the usual brightness from a flickering candle was gone. Outside, the brisk coldness of winter snow brushed across the cobbled pathway of doom. Outside,a gnarled tree dropped rough bark. Ava snatched the keys and the lock clicked but the warmth of the house was now cold like the sea in the winter. Inside, the thick dust hung in patches like seaweed scrabbling to cling onto a jagged rock.

Ava and Luke staggered up the not-so velvety stairs and went directly to her bedroom. Shadow, sniffled for ideas. The lilac marble wallpaper was peeling off in damp places. The frame of her bed was crooked and the splinters were zooming round the room like a rocket.Fragments of her favourite candles were still on her shelf neatly above the books she had collected. Thankfully, her chromebook, with stickers of her adventures plastered on the cover, was still hidden at the back of her rustic wardrobe.

Curious, Luke picked up the chromebook and accidentally pulled back a secret slot. It revealed a note bearing that her Father had invented a new bun with glazed icing.

“No wonder people are chasing him. If you can create a food then that would be GREAT. Worth a fortune.” muttered Luke, full of amazement.

“ So that’s why he’s disappeared! “Exclaimed Ava.

“ Exactly,” came a frosty voice. Out of the darkness, professor fire swished into the room. His hair was burning orange and his teeth caramelised with rot. “I have been waiting for you to appear. I need that recipe plan,” he snarled and with that he snatched it off her, cackling to himself.

Minutes later, the children were locked in a garage with tools, bikes and lots more surrounding them!

“We’ll never get out of here,” he muttered with pain.

“Yes we will. We’ll fight back,” she demanded…

The necklace-Chapter 2

Prologue

“You probably should, we gotta go to FencePort Castle now,” roared Olivia “ROAR!”

Chapter 2

The second they arrived at FencePort Castle Donna’s heart sank. It wasn’t what she imagined to look like. There were no lights in any rooms. Darkness all around. She looked up to her dad’s room and there was no smoke coming out of the chimney. Lily groaned as little drops of rain splattered onto her hood. She reached down and grabbed the keys from her little purple handbag. CREAK. The door opened. Every step they took there was an awful creaking sound. No pictures of their family hung up anymore, instead there were pictures of a professor.

Donna sprinted to her bedroom with Olive close behind and Olivia sniffing round the place sniffing like mad. Donna fell to the ground to find that her room was a mess. Floorboards were missing, the door knob to her cupboard was broken, there were feathers all over the floor from her featherdown pillow and most importantly she managed to open her cupboard and found her diary.

Olive picked up the diary and the best news in the world made a smile appear on her round face. It was the necklace. Her mother’s necklace. It had the butterfly printed onto the collar like Donna had been telling Olive about earlier that day. “Wow this is amazing. This necklace is really rare, no wonder people are after it.”

“Oh! I get it now” cried Donna, staring at the beautiful necklace engraved onto the necklace.

“I agree,” came a deep voice echoing through Donna’s bedroom. Donna gasped. She knew who this man was. This man was Professor Thunder, her dad’s old friend. He itched his ear and grinned maliciously……….. “I’ve waited ages for you to come back and collect your necklace. Look over here, it’s your father!” he cried, Donna turned her head to her balcony hoping to see her father. He wasn’t there. Before she could say something mean back to him he snatched the necklace out of Olive’s arms.

Later, the two girls and the lion awoke to find themselves locked away in the wood shed. There was a tiny little hole on the wall, just about the size for a rat to wriggle through. “What an evil man. My dad trusted him.” Donna sobbed. She banged on the door. “Help! Help! He is a clever man isn’t he. He’s locked it and probably tied it with rope.”

“Say hello to our new home,” whimpered Olive, not really wanting Donna to hear.

“Don’t be NEGATIVE!” screamed Donna. “WE WILL GET OUT OF HERE YOU JUST WAIT!”

“Alright then, no need to shout,” whispered Olive so quietly, nobody could hear her. She looked at the floor, not sure what else to do or say…

Screwlight, chapter 2 by Poppy and Isla

End of chapter 1
“Iris! That’s right, he’s right, he’s right! We need to catch a bus back to Old Apple before somebody gets their greasy mitts on that precious coin!”

Chapter 2
The Old Apple was dead. The air was stuffy and the clouds were dark and heavy. Liam and Iris stepped into the raw moonlight. Fauna flapped her wings and made squawking sounds. They all looked up ahead. There stood Iris’ house, an old wooden cabin which stayed silent amongst the trees. Shadows stretched their fingers through the windows and grabbed at the trees. Fauna screeched and hid behind Iris. The ancient hospital was nearly swaying in the strong winds and ambulances lay on their sides, not being used in over four years. The cabin’s glass windows were cracked and scratched, looking like someone had broken in. Inside, the hall was gloomy and the air felt icy.

Iris and Liam leaped up the creaking staircase, feeling like the paintings were watching their every move. Fauna hovered and sniffed the paintings, but one was strangely realistic. Cobwebs in dusty corners were linen brown and dead spiders clinged on to them. Liam kicked the door open to Iris’ room, prepared for danger. The minty desk was still by the window, where Iris’ dust-coated books sat in rainbow spine order. Berry-blue post-it notes were on the window sill and so was glimmering glass. She crept over to her bed, knelt down and reached her hand under. She couldn’t feel anything at first but as she dug further she found a miniature painted box. Iris pulled the box from under her wooden bed and she swept a hand across forehead in relief. The box had paint peeling off to reveal a smooth wooden coating. She clicked open the box and, to her relief, the coin was still there. Just how she remembered it. The swallows were engraved perfectly and it laid motionless.

Almost twitching with wonder, Liam took the box and smoothed the golden coin with his thumb. Suddenly, the middle of the coin popped open and a note was inside. In Iris’ father’s scribbly handwriting there was a note. It had a rough sketch of a tiny boxy-kind of computer. It was labelled: phone.
“So this is what all the talks are about? This old thing? How ridiculous!” Iris murmured.

“Mhmmmmmmmmm,” someone said out of nowhere. Iris spun on her foot and gasped in horror. It was the man from the painting. Except it wasn’t a painting. It was a real human. He had long bony fingers and scratchy fingernails which were cold to the touch. His hair was scruffy and grey with small white streaks. Iris should have known. Why didn’t she recognise him in the painting? It was her father’s long lost brother. Dr. Screwfix…
“I’ll take that design if you don’t mind,” his voice was frosty and gruff as he snatched the so-called ‘phone’ design and the special coin from Iris.

Soon enough they were locked in the pantry but unfortunately it was empty. There were no glass windows or any taps. The only fresh air they got was from the high-up bars crafted from diamond.
“The evil old idiot,” Iris twitched her left eye in annoyance.
“We won’t get out of ‘ere,” Liam muttered negatively.
“Just stay positive,” Iris snapped.

Diamond hunt: Chapter 2.

“I have some news too, your mother, she gave something to my Father. But, my Father hid it from me, so I can’t find it on my own, what do you say? Will you come and find the item that belonged to your Mother?”
“Say, yes Jade! Say yes!” Arrow whispered, keen to find this object.
“Okay..I will do it…”

Chapter 2

“Where should we look first?” asked Arrow.
“Ummm, what ‘bout your old house, Jade?” Luke pointed out.
“Er..Okay, sure!” agreed Jade.
“But, what even is the thingymajig?” Luke pondered.
“Hmmmm, I dunno, but my mum always liked shiny stuff, if that helps.”
“Maybe it could be a jewel or a mini mirror?”
“Yeah, maybe. We should get going though so c’mon, I have the perfect thing to get us there!” Arrow grinned.

The three headed through the small village, Arrow leading the way. Finally, they reached their destination.
“Ta-da!” Arrow squealed, showing them a rusted automobile.
“Woah! How did yuh get one of these?” Luke was shocked and overjoyed all at once.
“Stole it, from a rich ole’ lad,” Arrow replied, her eyes wide.
Arrow! Seriously? You stole it?” Jade was frustrated that it was stolen but at least she could find her mother’s special item.
“C’mon!” Arrow yelped and jumped in the automobile and off the three went.

“Here we are: Winters’ Mansion!” Jade leaped out of the cart and headed straight to the mansion. She was home, at last. Wondering if any of the old maids were still living there, Jade knocked on the glamorous front door.
“HELLO?” Luke called through the letterbox. Arrow barked at the door until someone came. It was maid 226. Her real name was Katlyn Boujwa.
“Can I help tu?” Katlyn asked.
“Uhm, what’s yes in french?” whispered Jade.
“It’s ‘wi’,” Luke giggled.
“Wi!” Jade said to the maid “Can I come in, it’s mwa, Jade.”
“Ah, why didn’t tu say so? Come een, come een!” Katlyn laughed and led Jade to her bedroom.

“Home at last!” Jade squealed, flopping on her four poster bed.
“So this is your room?” Luke grinned, ready to find the secret object.
“Do you have anything…shiny?” Arrow asked, sniffing around.
“I have a diamond and a few necklaces…”
“Diamond? That could be it! They are valuable and have secrets and anything could happen! That’s it Jade, we’ve found it! Where is it?” Luke shrieked in happiness.
“In here,” Jade opened a chest of drawers and held up the diamond to the light. She looked at the engravings but as she found a slightly interesting one the diamond was snatched from her hands.
“Hey!”
Jaz Kruust, the evil mansion chef, stood in the doorway, diamond in hand.
“Thank you,” he snarled and sauntered away.
