Catamander – chapter 4

Catamander continued…

Chapter 4

I am ready to run but the wall is facing me. The purple egg simmers and I notice that it is covered in little bits of pink. But we are trapped. It’s only then Giggle talking, in a low, calming voice. “ It’s ok,”said Giggle, talking a brave step closer to the Catamander. I can hear Giggle is trying to sound calm and disguise her fear.

The Catamander halts and looks (with patience) at Giggle. It’s blue eyes are fixed on us (more than me the Catamander is interested) both. “We’re not to hurt you or your glowing egg,” Giggle holds out her arms with open hands to show we are on warning. They both sand and gazing at each other. The Catamander seems to be listening and quiet. It gives a low purr; it stoped getting ready to attack. I think, it seems. Giggle is talking to the Catamander and its working.

“ We are leaving now, “ says Giggle, stepping to one side and together we walk past the catamander. Its eyes hold mine and in them I see waves the life of the ocean. It bows its head, she sheaves its claws and steps back as we pass by, safe at last.

Outside, I take a deep breath and exhale with relief. Inside, we can hear the Catamander shuffle towards its nest and the sound of it waiting for it to hatch.

The sea mist has vanished. A bright moon eyes the sea and stars flood the dark sky, their reflection speckles along the sea. All is cal. We went back to the hotel. No one should find the Catamander and her glowing egg. Giggle talks rapidly about how to keep them (the catamander and her egg) safe. She is full of ideas- pretending there has been a ghost haunting the hospital so the council will put more signs up so no one will go there. I listen as she speaks at a mile per hour, her face determined and forceful.

By the time we are walking through the awakening town. The sun edges over the calm sea. It sends forth shadows across the sands. Suzy is putting out new deck chairs as if it might be a lucky day. She waves at us with a cheesy grin. Mif Corner Cafe is opening up so that means he is up and running. By the time we get home the cars are moving in a hurry.

I fumble with the keys and shove the door open. Inside it is cold and quiet, but it will be swarming with people later.bAs i open the lost and founder station, my mind races. Will the catamander’s egg hatch safely? Will we be able to keep the mum and baby catamander safe from prying eyes?

Giggle wanders over to the windowsill . I stand by her as she gazes out of the hospital. She found something that glowed deep purple. It had pink on it. We look at each other, thinking the same thought.

All day, Giggle has her head in her books, ancient logs and legends. In a leather-bound book, volume 2, she finds a captain’s log written in 1841. It is a fishing vessel that netted, what the fishermen believed, a beautiful, smooth rock that glowed purple with pink on it. They kept the find but that night, the rock shattered and the captain told the story of how the ship was visited by the catamander. They managed to capture it and throw it into the sea. But ever since then, the fisherman have an unspoken mission to find and murder any type of mander they capture.

That evening we talk. Our adventure isnt over It has only just began.

Chapter 4 Turkeymander continued.

Turkeymander continued.

Chapter 4

Violet says to the Turkeymander “ It’s ok!” in a low soothing voice. “We are leaving, we just got here by mistake” she says. “Violet!”I whisper in a hurry. Vi runs quickly to me at the side of the cave. The egg shines with little specks of golden dust.

The Turkeymander steps back gently and tilts its head and sticks his tongue and squakes and squakes again. Then it stops and stares at me.  Violet takes three steps back and quickly runs to the left side of the cave. I am left alone and I stand there frozen to death. Violet starts to talk again to the Turkeymander, “can you let my friend come to me?” she asks. I run to her and the Turkeymander jumps into its nest. At the same time I am thinking,” it’s working!”

“We’re leaving now”, Violet says to the Turkeymander as it retrieves its claws back and nests its head on the straw.I see the dark windy sea in its eyes and the squawking seagulls and spot it’s teeth hidden in again in its shell like beak As we pass it I think, safe at last.

Outside, I take a deep breath of salty sea air and sigh in relief. Inside, we hear the turkeymander shuffle tightly near its egg and gives a sigh as well and falls to sleep hugging closely to its egg safe and sound. We smile at each other and walk away.

By then the mist had cleared and puffed out of sight. A sparkling moon through the creeping misty hills. Everything is as still as the gravestones in a graveyard. We walk past the restaurant and the promenade.”No one must find the cave”. Violet says in a whisper. “Even the local council”. I know what to do, I’ll show you when we get back, her face and body shaking still as she pulls me by my hand and we both run like the wind.

But by the time we get home, the town awakes. The golden sun shines like a light bulb to the world. The light ends at the front of the Grand Nautilus Hotel in my cubbyhole. Once we were there, we looked out the window and we saw a boathook man waving at us through the window glass. By the time we get to the museum the morning traffic has begun. Cars trickle past us and we see they head to the seafront car park.

I fiddle with the keys and shove the door open. Inside it is freezing and cold.Outside I could still hear honking from the cars out there and at some point, I think I need some quiet .I hear people coming through the front double doors and book in saying hi at the same time as they do it.We look at the beach both thinking the same thing.

All day, violet had her nose in all the books I had. Ancient stories and racing game books. In a leather case she found in a log and she read out the title out loud,” captain k’s log” I jumped in surprise and came over to her and read, “ written in 1986”. It’s a story that no one really knows. The rock was covered in tiny specks of gold. They kept the thing but that night, something or someone attacked like the taurus fighting the man. At some point, it turns out that the story is real and good but undiscovered. The rest of our discussion continues with violet.

The rest of the evening we chatter about it all. Our adventure has only just begun.

chapter 4

Dragemander, continued.

Chapter 4

I’m ready to legit but there is only the back of the cave facing me. The red honey como egg glowing in the dark, i notice that it is covered in shards of gold. But we are trapped; it was then Viola started talking in a smoothie quiet voice. “ it will be ok”, I counted to  say, taking steps forward. I can heir that she it tying to sound calm.

The Dragenmander pauses and toilets it’s hed. It’s red eyes are fixed on both of us. “We’re not hear to harm you or your egg. We promise you.”Viola pulls out her hands and shows we are not a threat. They both stand and look at each other. The Dragenmander seems to be listening  i said. Viola gives a low roar; the space at the back lowered. Viola is speaking to the Dragenmander and it is working.!

“Were learning,” i say, stepping to one side tugging Viola’s anrm to say we are walking past the Dragenmander. It’s eyes holding ning and within them i see hunny como shards at the night cloud. It’s red hed, and it’s clowers the Dragenmander steps back as we pass.

Outside, I take a deep breath. Insid, we her the Dragenmander riggel to her egg to warm the egg up and so the egg is safy.

The mist has cleared. Full light moon the stars twinking, their reflection specs the sea. We walk back to the hotell and that. No one must find the Dragenmander cave. Or the Dragenmander egg. Viola talks so fast I did not know what she was saying but I think she said something about what she needed to do.  Viola had handfuls of ideas. There has been a rackful and report  to he local lify grounds. Viola i said get more sing up clos off the end of the beach.

By the time we were at the town, it was the weakened. The sun egged over the cave.billy-go-lucky is patting a few chairs as it looks like it is sunny foe onese. She waves to us with a grin. Criskeny ‘s caff is opening and she makes me a coffee. Mrs lee closes her shop in the morning.SHe set out bills on the street the water hits the sand and reflects different colours.by the time we get to the museum, the morning traffic has came upon cars travelling along the carpark to get to the beach.

I jiggle the key and smoothly open the door inside it its nice and cool and quiet soonly it will be busy. As i open the ticket office my heart raced its the dragomander egg is it going to be hatched safely. Viola will be able to people from the baby dragon and peering eyes i say.

Viola passes over to pear at the showcase on the beach combing.I stand beside viola she points to the fragments of the sea worn glass. And i found some that were red shards with gold.We look at eachother and we think the same thing.

All day viola has had  stuck in beaks, reocordings. In a letter she finds a captains letter written in 1867. It is the story of  a fishing vessel that nobody believed to be real smoothly rocks that glow with red and shards of gold. They kept the find but that night the rock shattered and the captain told the story of how the ship was visited by devil dragon. They only just caught it into the sea ever since then nobody has spoke about it.But it would kill many mander species.

Dragonmander continued..

Chapter 4

I continue to back away but there is only the back of the cave facing me. The iridescent moon egg glows in the darkness allowing me to see my route. But we were trapped! After that, Tootsie started talking, But in a very weird low voice. “It’s okay, don’t worry!”

The Dragonmander pauses and tilts it head to one side. Its seal blue eyes are anchored on us both.“You don’t have to worry we’re  not going to harm you or your egg, we’ll protect you,” says Cotton calmly. Whilst holding her hands out showing she is no threat. The Dragonmander seems to be calm and comfortable

“We’re leaving now,” says Tootsie whilst stepping back smirking with happiness. Its glare holds mine as I scuttle past. It backs away, turns around and puts its sharp teeth away as we walk by. Safe at last!.

Outside, I take lots of deep breaths and sigh with shockness. Suddenly, out of nowhere, we heard the Dragonmander. I slowly went back to its nest and it was the Dragonmadner tucking in its nest laying next to the moon Dragonmander egg.

The steam has cleared. The midnight sky eyes the beach and blacked out clouds. Their reflections spotted the sea. All is still. We march along the path looking for a parade. Hopefully no one will find the cave, no-one will find the Dragonmander and its precious, little moon egg. Tootsie talks as fast as greyhounds about what we need to do. Her mind is full of ideas, some are weird and crazy but others are smart.

By the time we are walking through the town it is awakening the bright yellow sun came out at the edge of the sky. It catches black shadows under the trees. The beach man is laying out some deck chairs to stay out and watch your kids splash and play in the water. He then saw us and decided to wave at us with a smiley grin. Stephan corner caff is opening and he’s looking out of the window. Most things you can see are people setting up the beach so it can be open. This beach has a lot of colours especially to see its clear green water. By the time we get to the museum , the morning traffic has begun. Cars sizzled across the path and past us

I shoved the keys and opened the cracky door, to be honest it was really fresh and calm inside .Pretty much all you could hear was silence. It feels like you are in a dark tiny room by yourself.

Chapter 4

Chapter 4

I’m ready to escape however, that is not an option. The egg’s scales glow bright green and blue as if it can sense our movement. I suddenly realise Violet is talking to the foxamander in a warm, soothing voice. “It’s alright,” she whispers, stepping forward. I can hear in her voice that she’s trying to disguise her fear.

“We are leaving now,” she says, making sure she’s a bit louder. We both take a few steps forward. The foxamander pauses and leans forward to look at us. It’s blue beady eyes stare into our souls intimidatingly.”We aren’t going to hurt you or your egg,” Violet remarks, holding out a hand to show no harm. The foxamander seems to be listening closely. It gives a low yelp; he moves away from the door. It worked! I think.

“Lets go,“ says Violet stepping past the foxamander. Its eyes hold mine and in them I see the waves of the ocean, crushing the seafloor. It bows its head, hides its claws and steps back as we pass by, safe at last.

Outside, I sigh with relief. Inside we hear the foxamander crawl into the cargo container and cuddle the egg softly.

The mist has already gone and left. A silver moon watches the shore line and stars flicker like a candle flame in the night sky, their reflections in the sea. Everything is quiet. We stroll along the empty roads and talk. No one can find the foxamander and its delicate egg. Violet talks at a fast pace about what we need to do. She has many ideas- make people believe it was demolished. Put signs up, saying it’s being shut down. I listen carefully as she speaks as slow as a snail to make sure I’m paying attention.

By the time we are walking back to my room, the town is wakening. The sun peeps over the calm sea, casting shadows along the shimmering sands. Bobby is setting up a picnic as it looks as if it might be a nice day for once. He waves to us with a cheery grin. Cassie’s Corner Caff is open and she’s inside baking cakes. Mr Beach flips the closed sign to open and begins restocking the colourful beach boards. As we get to the museum the morning traffic has begun. Cars weave past us on their way to the seaside car park.

I fiddle with the keys and burst the door open. Inside, it’s cold but quiet. Soon it will be bustling. As I open my cupboard to find my duster, my mind races. Will the foxamander’s egg be safe? Will the foxamander be able to care for its baby?

Violet dawdled over to look at the ‘Finds of Beach-combing’. I stand next to her and she points to a giant blue and green rock. We look at each other with the same thought.

All day, Violet’s eyes were fixed on books, old logs and records. In a leather bound book she finds a lost captain’s log written in 1845. It is a story of a fishing vessel that netted a huge glowing rock coated in blue and greens. They kept it in a room next to a fire but that night it broke and the captain told the story of how the ship was visited by devil’s fox. They had just managed to capture it and throw it overboard. Ever since then the captain swore to kill it but never did.

Sharkmander continued…

Chapter 4

I’m ready to run but there is only the dead end of the cave. The grey egg glows as I realise there are dark spots scattered around it. But we’re stuck!  The ex-employee was trying to calm me down with a soft voice and the Sharkmander.

The Sharkmander pauses and tilts its head to one side. Since we weren’t going to harm her egg we were about to say until we held out our hands to show we weren’t going to threaten her. It seems to be working since the Sharkmander was lowering itself. It’s working! The former employee was talking to the Sharkmander and it worked.

“We’re leaving now,” we both say calmly, whilst walking past the Sharkmander. If we make one wrong step it would stab us with it’s sharp thins, that our eyes can only just recognise the sharpest point. But we made it past safely.

Outside, I take a few deep breaths knowing we’re safe. Inside, we hear the Sharkmander waddle back to its nest to calm her and warm up her precious egg.

The fog was slowly clearing. The bright moon shines at the beach with star studs drifting in the dark, sky. We walk back to the office and talk. No one must find that circus. No one must walk in and find the Sharkmander and her precious egg. The retired employee kept rapidly telling me his ideas. Like trying to make people think the circus is haunted and abandoned with clowns that could kill you in a matter of seconds. I listen as he speaks at a five mph pace

By the time we are near the middle of town, the sun was still shining in the dark ocean mouth. Jeff-went-Unlucky was pulling a few deckchairs out at the beach thinking it was a lovely day to celebrate Chads Ice cream Galores opening. We start setting off to go back to Gumdrops Galore and then the traffic starts getting hectic.

I search for the keys in a hurry and grab the door heavily. Inside, it’s warm and relaxing. When I sit in my office I wonder if the Sharkmanders egg will hatch safely.

Outside, The old employee wanders to look at our famous Gumdrop Galore painting. She points to her favourite bit and I sit there wondering what my favourite bit should be.

All day, the ex-employee sticks his nose all into the new stuff that wasn’t here when he was. Until he finds an old recipe written in 1907. Later that night I couldn’t stop thinking about the recipe and who wrote it because this business opened in 1913.

Snakeamander continued,

Snakeamander continued,

Chapter 4

I’m ready to sprint but there is only the back of the cave facing me. The brown glow on the egg and I notice that it is covered in tiny spots of silver. But were cornered! It’s then that Freddy starts talking, in a low, smoothing voice. ‘’It’s Ok’’, he whispered, taking a big step forwards. I can hear he’s trying to sound calm and hide his fear.

The snakeamander hisses and tilts its head to one side. Its milky-blue eyes are focused on us both. ‘’We’re not going to danger you and your egg. We’ll protect you.’’ Freddy holds out his arms with his hand open to show that he is not dangerous. They both stand and stare at each other. The snakeamander seems to be listening. It gives a low hiss; the wings on its back flap. I think, it’s working. Freddy is talking to the snakeamander and it’s working.

‘’We’re leaving now,’’ says Freddy, stepping to one side and together we walk past the snakeamander. Its eyes hold mine and in them I see the depths of the ocean, the crush of the waves and the glitter of so many tiny, red dots of life. It puffs its hood, closes its mouth and steps back as we pass by, safe at last.

Outside, I take a deep breath and sigh with joy. Inside, we hear the snakeamander walk towards its nest and the sound of it setting down to keep its precious egg warm and safe.

The dancing mist disappeared. A bright moon eyes at the beach and stars stud the dark shy, their reflections sparkle the sea. All is still. We walk back towards the pier and talk. No one must find the cave! Or else the snakeamander and its little egg will be in danger. Freddy talks scardly about what we need to do. He is full of ideas -pretend there has been a rock fall and report it to the council. Get more signs up, banning people from that end of the beach as the cliffs are dangerous. I listen as he speaks at an hour every second pace, his face is determined and forceful.

By the time we are walking through the sand, it is hot. The sun edges over the buildings. It casts shadows across the sand. Honey-go-Lucky is putting out a few deckchairs as it looks as if it might be a lovely day for once. He looks at us with dead eyes. Johnny’s ice cream shop is opening and he is making ice cream.

I mess with my keys and shove the door open. Inside, it is freezing. Soon it will be busy. As I open the door to my office, my mind races. Will the snakeamander’s egg hatch safely?

That evening, we talk. Our adventure is not over. It has just begun.

Goromander Chapter 4

I’m ready to run. I can feel my heart hitting my chest like a steel hammer. The glow from this red egg with golden splashes all over is shining as bright as a star in the midnight sky.I looked over my shoulder glancing at violet trembling in fear as she picked up this precious stone. As she picked up this egg she could make out a nest and it was resting in the middle of it.

This creature came crawling out of the dark tilting its head sideways with its amber eyes locking onto us.Violet put her hands out showing it that we aren’t a threat. It started to back off into the dark hiding away in the shadow. In my head i knew it was working.

“It’s time to go” i whisper Me and violet clamber over the pile of loose rocks getting drenched in water. We get out of the cave  and lay in the golden sand gasping for fresh clean air.Outside we lay on the golden sand inside the Goromander hides the egg under its thick nest.

The mist has cleared. The moon eyes the beach stars scattered around the sky waves crash against the rough glimmering sand.Nobody can find this cave.Nobody can find the goromander egg i thought to myself.Violet keeps going on and on about ideas like make a rock avalanche to get the county to shut that part of the beach off.

When we get back to town we can see the sun emerging from the lapis blue Ocean rising over the town. Billy-go-lucky was at the dock polishing his boat.  He waves at us  with a cheery grin. It might be a sunny day.Mr fizz with opening up and unlocking the roller shutter. today there’s not very many cars on the road snaking by.

I fumble round trying to find the right key and I shove the door open. Soon the shop will have customers all over.soon the shop will be filled with customers. My mind is racing with thoughts will the goromander be safe.

The waves go back to me and VIolet sees this red golden egg laying on the sand.Me and Violet are thinking the same thing.

All day violet was looking through old and ancient logs and records. She came across this log written in the early 80s.They were on a fishing vessel and he picked up this glowing egg. Then disaster struck and a hole was put in the side of the boat. After that they were never seen again.

That evening we sit around the table realising are adventure is not over yet.

Outside, I take a deep breath and sigh with relief. Inside, we hear the lisdmander shuffle towards its nest and the sound of it settling down to keep its precious egg warm and safe.

The mist has cleared. A bright moon eyes the beach and stars stud the dark sky, their reflections speckle the sea. All is still. We walk back towards the promenade and talk. No one must find the cave. No one must find the lisdmander and her precious egg.Toosy talks rapidly about what we need to do. She is full of ideas – pretend there has been a rockfall and report it to the local council. Get more signs up, banning people from that end of the beach as the cliffs are unsafe. I listen as she speaks at a mile an hour pace, her face determined and forceful.

By the time we are walking through the town, it is waking up. The sun edges over the still sea.It casts shadows across the sands.  is putting out a few deckchairs as it looks as if it might be a lovely day for once. He waves to us with a cheery grin. Chris’s Corner Caff is opening and he’s inside brewing up an urn of tea. Mrs Butcher pulls down the awning at her Bucket & Spade corner shop. She sets out piles of beach umbrellas, water wings for little ones and beach boards of all colours. By the time we get to the museum, the morning traffic has begun. Cars snake past us on their way to the seafront car park.

Toosy wanders over to look at the ‘Showcase of Beach-combing’. I stand beside her and she points to the fragments of sea-worn glass. And she’s found some that are red. Red, speckled with gold. We look at each, both thinking the same thought.

All day, Toosy has her nose stuck in books, ancient logs and records. In a leather-bound volume, she finds a captain’s log written in 1867. It is the story of a fishing vessel that netted what the fishermen believed to be a huge, smooth rock that glowed red with speckles of gold. They kept the find but that night, the rock shattered and the Captain told the story of how the ship had been visited by the devil’s cat. They had only just managed to capture it and throw it into the sea. Ever since then, fishermen have an unspoken bond to capture and kill any species of mander that they might find.

That evening, we talked. Our adventure is not over. It has only just begun.

Llamamander – chapter 4

Llamamander continued

Chapter 4

I was ready to run,but there was only a dark, hollow cave. The soft egg was shining like a diamond with brisk sparks in it.Then, Ash mumbled “it will be alright” in a soothing voice covering her fear.

The Llamamander paused and crouched on the floor, its blue crystal eyes glaring mysteriously.”We will protect you” ash says. The Llamamander stepped back signalling she wanted to let us go.I think its working.Ash was communicating with the Llamamander.

“We’re leaving now” says Ash, now walking out the cave. The Llamamanders eyes looked into mine and i saw clouds waving slowly,i then put the fluffy egg on the floor and ran out.safe at last.

Outside,I layed on the warm sand but, inside mushroom town was the hearing of the llamamander caring about its egg.

The fog cleared, the gleaming moon shines down at the beach.stars glitter in the sky, their reflections peering down. All was silent. We walked towards the hotel and talk about how we will protect the cave leading to mushroom town.”No one can find it” ash says quickly planning what to do,ash is always full of suggestions – pretend it’s off limits or pretend a rockfall happened and report it to the local council, get signs up and caution tape around the cave.I listen as she speaks a mile an hour her face really ready to do business.

By the time we were in town the bright sun started to come up the edges over the wavy sea.It casted the mirroring shadows gazed upon the land. Billy’s pizzeria is open and is making fresh dough outside, the owner waved at us with a cheery smile. Larry’s drink stand is making some tropical shakes.Mrs rose was putting out some bluebells and white roses.By the we got to the museum, the morning traffic began.Cars rapidly swooshed past us on their way to a car park.

I messed up the keys but we finally barged in.Inside,it was silent and fresh but soon it will be loud and warm.As i open the ticket office,my heart thumps. Will the Llama Manders egg be safely hatched? Will we be able to keep it hidden away from glaring eyes?

Ash wanders over at the “find the egg” event in town.I stand behind her looking closely “wait” says ash “look” she says in terror..the egg they were finding was soft and fluffy and blue sparks around it.We looked at each other, thinking “what”.

All day,Ash was sleeping and thinking about the egg.She then found a log about a captain and a rock back in 1898.”This book is so boring” I said while sitting on the floor.” Its about a fishing vessel that netted what the fishermen believed to be a huge, soft, fluffy rock that sparkled blue. They kept finding the rock shattered and the captain told the story of how the ship had been visitted by the Llama mander devil” ash said in a huge huff.

That evening,we talk. Our adventure is not finished.it has only just begun.
