Chapter 2

Silence fills the room as I hesitate to bring up what Viana had just witnessed. “Well…What did you see?” I blurt out. Nothing but silence. Outside, I can hear the heavy gales push against my rooms window. Before she can even react to my question I think I already know what her answer will be. Unsurprisingly, I was correct. She claims to have encountered the Oroko Malamander.

17 minutes later, we make our way outside in the freezing cold, Retracing Viana’s footsteps. I know. I’m aware that I probably should have stayed inside in my cosy, heated bed with my heater on maximum heat. All that I can say is that Viana, as that is the name given to her, is the most hyper and bossy person I have ever met. The sea sways back and forth so ferociously that it caused us to tilt and stumble onto the grey, stone wall beside us. In the distance, the heavy winds crackle across the night sky, breaking the peace of the ocean. After a while, we pass the old fish and chips stand, Claudia’s ice-cream parlour and Miss. Wightman’s merchandise shop. All of them have been covered and abandoned due to the heavy storms. The pier remains empty as we slowly walk along the path.

Viana drags me forward towards the end of the pier and she suddenly stops. A sticky, thick trail of mucus leads beyond the wooden planks that lay on the pier. She turns to me with a horrified face and insists that we follow the trail. Without thinking, I say yes and we cautiously walk alongside the glow in the dark trail until it comes to an end. We look up to see the bucket and spade shop, we close our eyes and walk into the little shop ahead.

Hardly daring to breath, we peer through the glass window on the door and only see a singular flickering light at the back of the shop. I tug on the door until it finally opens and we both slowly slip into the store. Carefully, I go to shut the door but as I hold onto the handle, the light stops and we are in complete darkness.

“Viana?” I call out.

“Ourania…I’m scared,” she calls out, her voice crackling.

I search around for her until I find her hand and place it on mine. We search around for a torch and finally come across one. I turn it on and look around to see white eyes glaring at me from a distance. I rub my eyes and look again but nothing was there. Was I seeing things?

Slowly, I pull Viana over to me but insists she goes and checks for me. I don’t hesitate to let her go. I get a shiver down my spine as I can make out sharp movements from behind the slushie machine. I close my eyes as she swiftly moves her head behind the machine. Suddenly, a stench of seaweed and rotten fish lingers in the air. I know that It was the Oroko Malamander. I tell Viana to come back but she ignores me. Without thinking, I leap towards her as the Malamander crawls out from behind the machine. I let out a deafening scream as it paces toward us.

Outside, The moon takes cover behind the clouds. Inside, The monsters piercing eyes come chasing after us. I notice that it is crawling on its legs, screeching in pain with every move it makes. We leap out of the shop as we run towards the hotel as fast as we can. I look back to see that nothing was now chasing us and I wonder where it had gone so fast. I stop and so does Viana. I search around and can make out a slender figure submerge into the crashing waves below us.

Venox chapter 2

I help her get out of under the couch and we sit in silence for a minute or two and then I say, “what did you see?” I can hear the night wind blowing and the rain pattering on the roof. Before she answers, I already know what she is going to say. I am right. It is the totally real Venox.

Five hours later it is midnight and we are outside in the cold, wet night searching for an pretend monster and some fake footsteps. I didn’t want to do it but Elise made me do it, that is her name by the way. The wind blowed and snow started to fall. A distant owl hooted and a nocturnal wood ****** started pecking wood.

We pass the old mine, the abandoned café and the biggest tree in the forest. All of them not been visited since the Summer. No one was around for miles and wouldn’t be for a long time.

Elise pushes me down the giant cave and that’s where we see it. Huge footprints the size of cars. The wind howls outside and rain pours down above the cave. We hear a roar coming from down the cave, and without thinking, we walk forwards.

Not making any sudden movements, we tip toe down the cave. We here trees being blowed by the wind outside, knocking over a tree, making a loud thud when hit the ground. When we turn a corner in the cave, something growls, sounding like a drill, almost a small roar. Frozen in fear we stand there, looking down at the other end of the cave. Did we just hear the venox?

I turn around but Elise goes a tiny bit closer. I can see something getting up, as large as twenty full grown men. It smells of rotten meat and its claws are red with blood. Like a giant, it takes a slow step towards us.

Outside lightning starts and strikes far away. The venox starts a slow run towards us, but steps over us and out of the cave, into the forest. It pauses, turns its head at us, looks with its big glowing yellow eyes and opens its mouth reveal two rows of teeth, each one the size of a child. Then, it roars and runs into the vast darkness of the forest.

Venox chapter 3

Three days later, we are in my cabin. We sit there, not talking, drinking fresh orange, my favourite drink. Outside it is dark as it is three in the morning. Inside it is nice and warm, unlike outside, but Elise thinks it’s time to do something else. “Thor, you actually need to help me.” Not again I think. “I know where it lives.”

I find out that Elise has been looking for the past three days for the venox. She says she saw some footprints that looked exactly like the ones we saw at the cave three days ago, but these ones were near the abandoned forest church.

I turn the lights of and lock the door before we leave. This time I take my nice warm forest ranger coat and my head torch. It starts to rain. We go towards the old abandoned forest church, which hasn’t been visited since nineteen fifty seven. When we reach it its surrounded by barriers. It is very dangerous as a bear or a wolf pack could be living in there. Elise just climbs over a barrier. I know I shouldn’t leave her alone. She doesn’t care about cation tape or warning signs and for some odd reason I follow her. We walk along the grave yard, rain pouring down onto us.

I hadn’t actually thought that she found some real footprints. There was a track of foot prints lading into the churches huge closed wooden door. “Come on lets go in” Elise whispers as she pushes open the giant double doors and takes her torch out, but I think we shouldn’t go, I think we should turn, around go back to the cabin and have a nice cup of hot chocolate.

The inside of the church is total darkness. It smells of plants a dampness. We see vines covering pews in the light of my headtorch. My heart starts beating faster and faster as we move closer to the back of the church. I’m just about to say there’s nothing here lets go back, but Elise sees it. On the seat the priest would usually sit on, there is a nest made of logs and leaves. In the nest there is a giant black and yellow egg. The venox has an egg.

When I see it I start to get a bad feeling in my stomach. “We shouldn’t be here” I whisper, pulling Elise away from the egg. But just as we reach the door something steps in and it doesn’t sound happy that we’re here. We’ve heard its roar before, but this time it’s a shriek and a large stomp. I shine my headtorch and it’s there. The venox! Elise goes forward; I go back.

The Crabamander chapter 3

V

Chapter 3

A day later we were sitting in the house with the kids to see what to do I was drinking the last duff beer in spring field we sit in silence sipping whatever we were drinking we were warm and cozy inside when Marge shouted out loud “we can’t sit here getting fat need to do something” here we go again I thought to myself “you must help me homer I know where it lives”

It turns out Marge had been had been outside for two days nonstop to find this crabamanders cavern and surprise, surprise she found it I can’t bear with any more missions I just want a donut but marge did promise that I would get a donut if I did do this so off we go we set of going to the spring field peek.

I can’t believe that Marge was actually right about this there are footprints all over the mountain the floor and the walls there were footprints leading to the beach and in a sketchy scary cavern so we slowly walked into the cave she clicked her flash light on and in we went.

The cavern was damp gritty and slimy just like the footprints so we slowly walked  forward  deeper in the cave and unsuspectedly we found an egg it had spikes all over protecting it  we looked through the egg there were hundreds if not thousands of crabamanders marge was going to slice it open but I grabbed her hand and said “think about what you’re doing” she put down the knife and we started but a massive beast emerged from the shadows and blocked the mother crabamander I thought Marge stepped forwards and I stood back.

Chapter 3

Chapter 3

Two days later and we are in Kari’s flat by the beach. We sit in silence, taking small slurps of tea, my favorite drink. Outside, fog was seen covering the beach and the town. Inside, we are warm by the fire place all snuggled up in blankets. However, Kari has ideas, big ones. ” Jack, come on, you have to help me!” Here we are, arguing again. I think. ” I reckon I know where it lives.”

It turns out that Kari has spent the whole night searching in the bitter cold, hanging around the beach looking up and down the whole beach. She claims to have seen claw marks on pieces of wood, and interesting footprints on the damp sand, just like the exact ones we found at the forest.

I secure the museum and make sure that all the windows are shut and curtains are closed and that the lights are off before I finish my shift. This time I make sure that we have head torches and that I’m wrapped up in lots of lairs. The fog gets thicker and thicker across the town and the beach. Its rather like being trapped in our own horror story. We follow the paths to the beach, till we find a sign that says do not go any further than this, please turn back! For Kari that just seems to just carry on walking and forget about the sign. I know that I can’t leave her alone on a beach, she could get loosed, and I would be blamed for it, so I find myself following her. She’s very brave in a good and bad kind of way. Carefully, we made our way round the beach, encircles by fog.

I hadn’t believed Kari, but the footprints are quite obvious. There are two sets of prints, one leading across the sand and into the entrance of a pitch black cave. The other set of footprints lead to the sea. “Come on! Let’s seize the moment!” Said Kari quietly encase the cave had something inside, which it obviously has. They were both clicking on their head torches. I’m not really feeling to seizing anything right now, but once again, I have a bad feeling that Kari is leading me into danger!

The cave was pitch black. Totally dark. It smells of rotten sea weed and crushed bones. Big stone walls where shining in the torchlight with big deep claw marks on each wall. My heart was thumping so fast as if I was going to have a heart attack., looking side to side for anything suspicious. Just as I’m wondering that there is nothing and starting to feel a bit calmer, but at that moment it is then that Kari finds it. There, in a little nest, built out of fisherman’s bones and sticks and feathers, is a large shining egg. We stop and gaze at it. The daggermander has an egg.

In that moment, I feel a shiver of guilt. We should not be here. “Let’s go now, I’ve got a bad feeling about this.” I whispered, tapping Kari’s shoulder and turning to make my way to the beach. But our way was blocked. Something is moving through the darkness from the entrance of the cave. It doesn’t sound pleased. We’ve heard it in the past, the low growl, a purr kind of throat, the steady, heavy footsteps. We both shine our torches forwards and there it is. The daggermander! Kari steps forward; and step  back.

chapter 3

Five days later and we are sitting in my apartment drinking hot cocoa. We sit in silence, taking big gulps of our hot cocoa. My second favourite drink. Outside fog smothers the town. While we are nice and cosy. However sunny, has big plans again. “Nova seriously, you must help me  ” said Sunny .

It turns out that Sunny has been walking in the freezing cold for hours and hours searching up and down the beach. She claims that’s she saw big footsteps along the shoreline. Just like the ones at the arcade, but now it was at an ancient cave.

I quickly lock up the restaurant checking all the windows and doors,  making sure the food is hot for tomorrow. I leave work with my puffy jacket and jumper. Straight when I walk out the door I can feel a gust of wind hit me. All you could see was a little bit of road ahead of you. It’s like your being trapped in a box full of fog. We follow Sunnys footsteps until we get to the cave. No one is allowed past the red line because it’s too dangerous. For sunny that just wants to make  her go further. I know if she goes ahead I will need to follow her because I can’t just leave her alone. She is moody and stubborn and yet I am following her.

We walk in the cave and we saw the big footsteps again, There are two sets of prints of footsteps, one is leading even further into the cave and the other is going around the cave. Sunny turns on her torch and tugs me. I don’t like being mean but this girl causes real trouble!

The cave is getting darker and darker and there is water dripping from the ceiling. We walk further in and find a random pile of sticks and rags when we walk further into it we see its actually a nest and inside the nest is a glowing blue egg. We stare in disbelief. The sunamander has an egg.

In that moment I feel sick in the stomach . ” we should not be here, let’s go back” I tell Sunny while tugging her shirt. I turn my back on her and walk back to the safety of the beach but the way is blocked. I feel something moving around me and I hear a nasty growl. We both shine our torches. There It is. The sunamander

Chapter 3

Two days later and we are at my house. We sit in silence for a bit. I take slow sips of hot lemon tea, my favourite drink. Mei-Mei sips her hot chocolate and we glance at each other for a while. But, Mei has plans. “Seriously Layla, you must help me.” Here we go again. “I know where it lives.”

It turns out Mei-Mei had spent hours in the freezing cold analysing the claw marks and footprints at the pier. But she also had been wandering the buildings there at night trying to find out if the monster lived near.

As I left the mansion the servants locked up the doors so no one could get in and shut all the windows. I get my fluffy jacket and give one to Mei for her to wear for the trip. The clouds covered the moon and we set off to find the monster. We follow the muddy trails into the beach and we take for the rain. It will be dangerous. I could tell. I tried to tell her but she wouldn’t listen she wanted to go on. As we reached the cliffs we couldn’t go any further until we spotted some foot prints.

I hadn’t believed her but now I see that the footprints are very clear and new. It looked like the monster just left. We looked around for a bit until we didn’t find much. But I have a good feeling Mei’s leading me into trouble.

We stumble into a cave. A very dark one. Dirty water drips down from the roof and plops onto the ground. It smells damp and dirty. But I had brought a flashlight. I shine it at a weird object. It was an egg. The Illusimander’s egg. It was shiny with glitter and blue, purple and pink colours. We stare at the egg in awe.

It was at that moment I felt a stab of guilt. We should not be here.. “Let’s go” I say grabbing Mei-Mei’s sleeve but she wouldn’t budge. “Turn off the flashlight.” I turn it off and there. We see the glowing eyes of the Illusimander. Mei steps forward; I step back.

chapter 2

We sit in my room waiting silently until I break the silence and ask ” what did you see” before she could answer I could hear the wind picking up . A storm is brewing. I already knew what she was about to say. I knew it. She saw the sunamander.

At least an hour later it was getting very late, we were tracing Sunnys footsteps. I knew it I should have stayed home in my bed eating my dinner with the tv on. All I will say about sunny is that she is very bossy and mean and a little bit sarcastic. The sea was surging up the beach and the wind was blowing us about and almost swept us off our  feet and there was lightning storming up.

We pass the chippie close into the town and then the rainbows ice cream parlour. They were all bordered up because of the storm. Only a few cars passed by and going home.

Sunny tugs me and points to the pier. All we could see was big claw marks and footsteps that looked very creepy. The sea was almost up the pier. Together we trace the footsteps as we get drenched in rain. Then we hear something or someone howl. It was coming from the old arcade. We stumble across the arcade without even thinking.

Silently, sunny takes small footsteps towards the door. but I stay behind, watching her walk in, shaking but not from the cold. I can just make out something moving behind one of the game machines. It had sharp claws on its back. It was slowly pacing towards sunny.

Outside, the storm tears the night. But inside a sudden lightning illuminates the arcade then the sunamander jumped over the arcade game jumped through the broken glass window and pounced to the pier then turns backs to us and growls and all you could smell was rotten fish all over the town and then the sunamander jumps into the water with a big splash.

Chapter 2

We sit, waiting quietly until I ask “What did you see?” Outside, the sky crackled. Even before she answered I just knew what she was going to say. I was right. She claims to of seen the Illusimander.

Not too long later, we are outside, retracing Mei-Mei’s footsteps. I knew I should of left work early instead of staying to help clean up. All I can say is that Mei-Mei is the mean, bossy type. She claimed Mei-Mei was her name, she said her friends call her Mei. The wind blew so hard I had to keep my parasol at the studio. The waves where so big they shot over the wall almost soaking us.

We pass the Blossom Ice-cream Parlor with a sign in the window saying “Gone because of the weather. Come back tomorrow.” Boards where put in place to stop the wind from smashing the door open.

Mei tugged me towards the pier and then I see it. Huge claw marks and dirty footprints scattered round the pier. Hardly daring to make any noise we dash towards the pier shop to take shelter. The lightning struck the pier and made small dent in the wood. Then we hear a unsettling growl. We turn slowly and nothing is behind us. Or is there?

It was the Illusimander standing behind us. Just like it had been described. It came through the shadows with a glowing face. It gave a fierce growl and disappeared back into the shadows.
