Chapter 3 – To the Snow Storm Moutains

With a flourish, what had so happened to be a silhouette, towered. It was Shadow, one of the Spirit’s chieftains. His muscular body was encased in metal iron, his mask was made from clockwork rust and animal spinal bones stood on his head like a crown. In his paw, he grasped a darkening black dagger. The street giants made a war cry to the other giants, in seconds the street was jammed with hundreds of giants of different colours, shapes and sizes.

When the battle had ended, many lifeless & gargantuan bodies lay down the alleyway and there was no sign of Shadow. With caution, Scar went back to the cabin with trembling knobbly knees, sweaty paws and a thumping heart after seeing such an intense fight. A strange coldness had crawled into him and gripped his soul. He was sure that Shadow would find him and his younger siblings.

By early morning, Scar, Sapphire and Scratch had left the Village Of Giants far behind and were heading to the Snow Storm Mountains. The journey took them around half a day so when they arrived it was the evening, they found themselves sheltering in the Cave Of Snow. The cave glistened in the dark and made  peculiar rumbling noises as if a frog was pouncing through its stomach. Sapphire was worried that the giants were close but Scar showed her the map and the route took them to the Snow Storm Mountains.

Outside the cave, a blizzard took place sweeping things here and there. Inside Sapphire made a homemade exotic salmon salad, since her and her siblings were hungry. Anxiously, Scar unraveled the one item his parents had given him before he set off on this life-ending journey. It was two miniscule, elvish blades that had the name “Moonpaw”. It glowed an odd navy blue in the hardly-lit cave. Even Scratch knew that it meant the giants were nearby.

The walls of the cave groaned and billowed until there was a dazzling flash of light and through the gap the giants poured. In a minute, the young  wolves were tangled in sticky thread that had come from a tamed blizzard silkworm. Scratch cried, Sapphire glared at the giants in dread and Scar struggled to hide Moonpaw’s blades so they’d have something to defend themselves with.

Too late! A familiar shadow squeezed inside the cave and the giants stepped aside. Shadow snarled at the wolves. “ Leaving the cave?” he hissed.”I guess not!” he added, snapping his fingers. Scampering forwards, the giants bundled into the snowy mountains and carried them to the Spirits hiding place, the Black Cavern. Inside, the Forest Queen grinned like a devil the said “ Shadow I see you’ve brought me young wolves,”.  He replied earnestly

“ Yes, I did me queen with the help of the giants,”.

“ Shadow be a dear and bring the giants herbal tea,” she said with royalty in her voice. There the Spirits were sharpening there weapons and preparing for a battle. Baffled and terrified, Scar stared at Shadow. It looked like the army was waiting, waiting to attack the safe place – the rock caves of the Secret Chambers!

Chapter 2 – The Village Of Giants

As the sun had started illuminating the forest, Scar woke up. Something had knocked the door of the hut. A black beady eye peered through the window hole and Scar stared in relief. It was Tide, the sparrow carrier, with a note from their father to say that camp had been destroyed by the Spirits and had been following their footsteps that had printed in the snow. They had no time to waste. Scar checked the map and with Tide’s help, the courageous pack of wolves set off, heading the North East.

As they began walking, the forest was soundless. There had been a snow storm during the night and the snow had covered the bushes and twigs making it difficult to walk. Icicles as sharp as blades hung down from trees. The wind howled, viciously cold. Scar knew that the Spirits could track them with ease because their movements would be tracked in the snow. At midday, they passed the Rough Rolling River, the wolves froze. Ahead, they could just see the shadow of what had to be the Watch Tower.

Hours later, the fatigued pack found themselves admiring the walls of the Watch Tower. Ferocious giant guards protected the entrance, their apple green eyes glowed. So his younger siblings would be safe, Scar led them behind the tower where a rock hut stood.

The foul smell spread through the tunnel but Scar was in the lead until they reached the otherside. The Village Of Giants was a suitable place to hide. The Spirits wouldn’t be accepted and as long as the wolves weren’t caught they’d be safe.

At twilight, Scar located the perfect hiding spot. Down the alley, he found a cabin with bamboo mats. It was immaculate and was an excellent place to sleep. Outside, snowflakes brushed the cabin. Inside, Scar, Sapphire and Scratch were stressed as they didn’t know if they’d see their parents. Soon, Scratch snoozed in between his siblings.

Scar sneaked out into the alleyway. They needed food. He stayed to the shadows and glanced round. Snorts and snarls through the tranquility as the giants bickered. A couple of them passed the cabin on their way to the Black Tavern; their singing worse than a ghost screaming. On the other side, one con-artist made a rat disappear  after its death. Scar gulped. The Spirits were dreadful; giants ere as awful. From an abandoned shop, Scar took: apple pies, a loaf of bread, red cheddar cheese, half a kilogram of dried berries & nuts, cooked salmon and 5 litres of water. At least they didn’t have to worry about food.

That second, a drunk man with ***** eyes yelled from his window “ What are yer doin yer numbskull”.

Keeping himself in the shadows, sweat trickled down his furry face, Scar paused. A silhouette was coming to him. He could hear their footsteps beating down. The silhouette moved. A blood red eye glinted.

All of the mountain giants picked up tarnished daggers and began to make their way towards the silhouette. Panicking, Scar wished that he wouldn’t be seen.

Chapter 1 – The Leaving

Finally they were ready to leave.

At dawn, a message had come, from a sparrow carrier, to say that the Spirits were 100 kilometers away from Claw Camp. Everyone in the pack was in danger. The ancient caves had been built decades ago and were easy to break, It’s walls were too shaky to withstand the attack. Its houses would be demolished after an attack from the Spirits.

So three young wolves, Scar, Sapphire and toddler Scratch, left their home sweet home. Their adventure to safety would take at least five days but they’d have to pass the Gloom Death forest and the Snow Storm Mountains until they arrived at the rock tunnels of the Secret Chambers. Even the Spirits couldn’t enter those extraordinary caves, carved near the Palace by wolves so long ago they had passed into old tales that only the Bards knew. When the wolves arrived at their destination, they’d be safe . Other wolves from their pack had chosen to go elsewhere but Scar’s father had given them an ancient map that showed the old pathways, hidden from prying eyes. Too sick to travel that far, Scar’s father went to Kill Hills and his wife came to.

Carefully, gripping the map, the tiny pack of courageous wolves walked over the wooden bridge that crossed the Connection River. Soon they were in the Gloom Death Forest, going towards what they wished to be safety. Wide bushes quavered, as they followed the ancient wolf paths. Cautiously, Scar took the lead. Tugging his fur, he struggled on as the howling wind swept crystalized snowflakes closer. Wherever Scar glanced, he thought of orange eyes of foxes, shadows of bandits and perhaps the metallic weapons of the Spirits.

Moving behind Scar, Sapphire held onto toddler Scratch’s paw. Exhausted, they tried to follow their older brother. Sapphire attempted to make it like an obstacle course for Scratch but soon his paw was poised. As the twinkling micro stars began to light up the sky, she made Scar stop so they could build a hut. Scar used sticks like bricks. Sapphire created a fire  and their temporary house warmed up in a flash.

That evening, they ate dried mangos, apple pies and brown bread with mozzarella cheese that their mother had packed. Scratch, who was fast asleep, snuggled in between his siblings. With  caution, Scar tugged some twigs and piled them across the front of the shelter, wishing that it would hide them from curious eyes.

Drifting into sleep, his brain spun with nightmares of the metallic clank of the Spirits, moving through the dark like a tide of anxiety. Would they ever reach the Secret Chambers?

How to care for a Fire Phoenix?

How to care for a Fire Phoenix?

Have you ever wanted to have a phoenix? If so, buy a Fire Phoenix from the local mythical creatures store. However, you may think that it is difficult to care for one but these instructions will help you look after these beauties.

You will need: a fluffy floor mat, a whistle, a gargantuan space, a fireplace, a phoenix food bowl, a pale peach coloured sofa, pillows with birds on them, periwinkles, spices, lemonade, a tent, a bouncy mattress, a hairbrush with soft brizzles, margherita pizzas, a table and a bird bath soak.

Steps to follow as a daily routine

  1. When the phoenix wakes up take it to an outdoor space to stretch their wings. The purpose of this is so your phoenix stays healthy. You should also try convincing the phoenix to do daily exercises because the chances are they don’t want to do it.
  2. After that, it is recommended to feed your phoenix all of the hottest chillies including the Carolina Reaper so the fire phoenix can keep their fire abilities. Some people believe you should also eat the chillies to make the phoenix joyous while eating. Make sure you put the chillies in the phoenix’s bowl.

Dragon Discovered

Maudie Brightstorm- Creatures Corrsepondant

Last Tuesday morning, Violetta Culpeper, 23 years old, discovered a Water Dragon bathing inside a rockpool in Explorer Bay. Violetta, whose occupation is exploring, was going for a stroll down the beach when she heard splashes. She told the Explorer’s News that she turned to the side and saw gradient scales and gargantuan wings of what she believed belonged to a dragon.

When Explorer’s News interviewed Violetta yesterday, she told us that she was still gobsmacked and baffled but also rather joyous. She added that “ I never thought I’d discover such a beautiful creature.”

Explorer Bay police have told the residents don’t go searching for dragons, report your sightings of dragons and tell us if you think there is a dragon in Explorer Bay. Local dragonologist, Dr Eudora Vane, said to us that me and my colleagues are finding out what Miss Culpeper saw and if you see a dragon call my company.
