My Malamander story – Chapter 3

Chapter 3

The next day, Rose and I are sitting on my bed with a hot chocolate.Rose has barely touched hers. Mine is nearly gone. Outside, a mist covers the streets. Inside, the air is warm and we are wrapped up nice and cozy. “ Pete I know where it lives!” Why did I let her in I think to myself. “We have to go and see it again!” She says

Before Rose had come to me yesterday, she had been out on the beach searching for the Snakeamander. She says  she saw a cave in the shadows. It had mysterious slither mark. Like the ones we saw.

Mrs Fiction is doing paper work , so I creep out the door and lock it behind us. This time I remember my winter coat and torch. We can’t see very far since the since the mist is thick. It’s like were trapped in a dream. We follow the road until we reach the beach. Then Rose leads. I want to go back, but I know she won’t want to. I know I can’t leave her alone. I have the feeling that Rose is leading me into danger. I was right. There is a sign that says DO NOT GO PAST! Rose just walked straight past it. She is unintelligent, yet I find myself following her.

I didn’t believe Rose when she told me. The marks made it clear she was telling the truth. Rose  seized the moment and stepped inside. I hesitantly went in after her.

The cave is dark. It’s cold and water drips from the ceiling. It stinks of rotten fish and there is a trail of slime in the cave. My heart thuds. Rose has walked of. As I shine the torch on the walls, they shine like crystals. I give a sigh of relief. There is nothing. Then Rose finds something, a nest. She reaches her hand in and pulls out an egg. The nest is big and woven neatly with sticks and old rags. The snakeamander has an egg! I question myself to know if what I have just seen is real or I am really trapped inside a dream.

At that moment, something burn inside of me. Guilt bubbles and rises up. We shouldn’t be here. “ We need to leave!” I say to Rose while grabbing her by the shirt. I move back to light and the safety of the beach. Our way is blocked. Something slithers closer and that something doesn’t sound happy. The smell of rotten fish get stronger. It starts clicking. The snakeamander. Rose goes towards it ; I go the other way.

Snakeamander Chapter 2

Chapter 2

After Rose told me about what she had saw, I was intrigued. I had to see it for myself. I slowly unlocked the door and crept outside with Rose.

Twenty minutes later, we arrived at the beach. We stood in the damp sand looking like a pair of penguins. I stare at the beach mesmerised by the waves in the distance. The rain was getting heavier and the lightning was getting louder.

We set off through Sad Sea Town. Some roads were flooded others the rain hit violently. The streets were empty. Jenny’s fish and chips shop was shut tight The abandoned building had been boarded up and Mrs Glee’s arcade had rejected the outside world.

As we walk back through the mist streets, I see something or someone out of the corner of my eye. Rose must of seen it to because she grabbed me and pulled me into the shadows. A smell drifted in the breeze. Suddenly, something emerges out of the mist and comes towards us.

Me and Rose are at the beach now. A massive gust of wind blows down the beach. The wind is howling and the rain is hitting the ground. Rose is shivering and her hair is blowing in the wind. I seize the chance to tell Rose to leave , but no words come out. The smell comes again. Rose pulls out a piece of plastic. We see a shadow and freeze. I lunges towards us. The stench is even stronger now.

Standing close to the sea wall, the  creature bares its needle like teeth. It comes closer, so Rose shows the sharp plastic. We move back then turn around. I look back to see it it was following us, but it had gone. It had been devoured by the vicious sea.

Snakeamander

Prologue

Do you remember visiting Sad Sea Town? No? Well you probably have been. Just when you went it would of been called Sun Shine on Sea. You might have gone for a day out with your family , or by yourself.

In summer, Sun Shine on Sea is full of merry music and fun things to do. Unlike any other seaside in England it is surrounded by shops and a library to top it off too. In summer, it is full of cheerful visitors: young children laughing and splashing in the sea ; affectionate couples hand in hand walking down the pier and a group of seagulls squawking as they pinch your chips. It’s that kind of place … in the summer.

But in winter, you probably felt the bitter wind as you walked down the frost covered streets. You also probably stood watching the sign change from Sun Shine on Sea to Sad Sea Town. You might of drove up hoping to have a nice day out ,but all you got was rain. Soft warm sand turns into cold crunchy snow in winter. No one comes out in winter. Not even the locals… some say they make the right choice.

Chapter 1

My name is Peter Gold , but most people call me Pete. In work in Sun Sine Library. I have three jobs : to dust all of the books ; sort them out into alphabetical order and sweep up after we close. Someone once told me I need a more interesting job. I love it here. I get to sleep in the basement, since I have nowhere else. I have a TV that allows me to watch whatever I want. I have a warm cozy bed to keep me warm. Especially in winter. I feel alone at night sometimes it scares me. In the summer the library is buzzing with visitors who want to enter an adventure. In winter we have very few visitors and sometimes no one comes.

I was sweeping the floor when a girl appeared at the window. She knocked on it and hissed “ let me in!”. I look at her unsure what to do. Mrs Fiction is upstairs doing paper work. She could come down at any time. The girls lips were blue and she was shivering , so I decided to open the window and let her in. She slips in and gives me a funny look. I notice she has big brown eyes that sparkle in the light. I go to open my mouth. Before I can say anything immediately she says “ Hide me!”

Before I continue with what happens next, there is a story that all locals know.It happened so very long ago. No one remembers the exact date or details. The locals say it comes out of the sea and slithers it way down frost coved streets at night. Rumours say it is a variety of mander and is known as the snakeamander.

People say you can tell when its coming. The air goes colder and it starts to smell of rotten fish. They say it left a trail that holds memories and once a map with it to. At dusk, the snakeamander slithers through streets making a taping noise. When they hear this, people lock their doors and close their curtains.

Some say the creature is in pain. Some say it’s just alone. Others say its seeking revenge from the town people.

“ Why do you need to hide?” I immediately say back“ What have you done!”.

“ I saw it !” She replies “ lock the doors, shut the curtains!”.

The beautiful things around me

On Monday, I found an abandoned adventure fort

with an old oak tree in the middle. With branches

like arms made it the perfect tree to climb on.

On Tuesday, I walked to the top of the nab

looked down and saw a family with ducklings

finding food in the canal.

On Wednesday, I saw a bee buzzing round

going to get nectar from a big bright bluebell.

On Thursday, I touched a butterfly wing

blue , bright and beautiful it started to click.

On Friday, I tasted bubble gun ice cream

It dripped on my shirt the taste was luxurious

It stained my tongue blue.

On Saturday, I heard a bird sing a tune

it soon flew by I looked up and said

My oh my !

On  Sunday, I dreamed of what I had done

realised all the beautiful things in the world

around me
