The Dragon
The Dragon
She slowly crawled out of the damp, dreary cave and froze still like a statue.
Her grimacing mouth has slimy drool dripping out the sides.
The tips of her teeth were drenched in bright, raspberry tear like drops of blood from here previous meal.
The smell was like old, smelly socks that had been drenched in moldy, rotten, stinky cheese. Never to be forgotten.
A long, thick, lizard like tail as hard as a boulder. Smacking and swooshing in the wind, knocking out everything in her path.
Mighty legs stood strong to support the muscly, beastly body. Thumping the ground, rippling and making the earth quake.
Rough, bubbling scales covered every nuck and cranny of the magnificent body. But still beautiful, color’s like a blinding galaxy.
Eyes stare into any souls of victims, red as lava but they hold no love or warmth.
Claws as pointy as daggers screeching don a chalk board and as sharp as a sword that makes you shiver.
Her magnificent wings, flittering ready to take flight. Then an almighty screech, piercing like shattering glass escaped her.
What a superb poem, Lilly. There is lots I like about this poem. It’s only a little thing, but I like the fact that your dragon is a she. I have read a lot of dragon poems today and this is the first one with a female dragon. I like the way you have extended many of the descriptions, a good example being, “red as lava but they hold no love or warmth”. I think that the only thing you can really improve are one or two of the similes where you have used images that” have heard before. I’m thinking “red…like drops of blood” and “red as lava”.
What a wonderful poem! Well done 👏
