Chapter 3
“ Greetings, my name is Casper Lorell,” he declared, patting the small kitten which sat down in the corner of his desk. “This is my Emporium. How do you like it?” Leyla just smiled and nodded like her parents had told her to do when talking to strangers. “Here is my Book of Memories. I am trusting you to put it back on the shelf but whatever you do DON’T look through the pages.” Casper warned.
Seconds later, Casper Lorell had disappeared through a door with his jet black coat trailing behind him. Leyla was all alone. Without a doubt she opened the book as she flicked through the pages she saw many different things: a winter wonderland covered in snow; a forest covered in autumn leaves that looked as if they had never been stepped on; the North Pole looking more beautiful than ever; Santa’s grotto with candy canes hanging outside the door and many more things that seemed as if they were out of this world.
The next thing Leyla knew, she spotted a pencil and without even thinking about the consequences that she would have to face she decided to draw a jungle but not with normal animals. She decided to draw creatures that never existed or so she thought. These creatures were beyond thinking about in the human brain. These creatures were unordinary.
“Come along,” purred the kitten. Leyla slammed the book and carelessly shoved it back into the shelf, hoping Casper wouldn’t notice the new drawing . She followed the kitten to the vine covered door and entered with her left foot then her right. She didn’t step into a room but into a jungle filled with everything she drew. The path went deeper and deeper throughout the jungle towards an animal’s little pod hanging above a tree. Exactly as she had drawn it. Every footstep, every time her heartbeat thudded louder. Leyla ran all the way up the tree towards the green pod.
Her heartbeat was breaking the silence. The pod had everything you needed: a fireplace complete with a roaring fire; a hot chocolate still warm on the table; a warm mattress with fresh covers and blankets; a stove filled with food spurting out of the top; and a bowl filled with warm cookies. Who wouldn’t want to live there? “Anyone home?” Leyla called out. The only thing that replied to her was silence.
5 minutes later, she heard a creak on the grass floor. She pushed the kitchen door open yet nobody was there . She spun round to see a tall silhouetted shadow: the outline of its long jagged nails; its long sharp fangs the same size as saber tooth tigers; and its scarlett red eyes. Leyla regretted her decision. She flung open the door and ran as fast as her legs could carry. She followed the path but it seemed even longer than before and she just ran into nothingness. “Why are you leaving so early?” hissed a frosty cold voice from behind .
