Chapter 2 The Room
“I said what is your name” Sarah cried impatiently,
“My name is Marcellus Magpie” the shop keeper announced proudly,
all of a sudden a little bell rung in her head, she had heard of a Marcellus Magpie, but why, where and when? “What did you say your name was again young lady?” he asked in a rather curios manner,
“Sarah Pimage” she repeated,
“that rings a bell” he muttered, “you are free to look around the shop but do not write in the book! Oh and this is my…um…son Rafael and my daughter Beatrix”.
“Hi” they said excitedly.
When Mr Magpie left, Sarah was left alone with Rafael and Beatrix “hey you, see that book over there, that is the Book of Magic, and I dare you to open it and write in it” said Beatrix excitedly,
“NO…I…I could not possibly do it” replied Sarah in horror,
“do it, do it” she jeered
“okay fine but if I get told off I will blame it on you” threatened Sarah,
but for some reason Sarah was desperate to write in this book. She walked towards it, once again entranced.
“Don’t do it” shouted Rafael,
“Shut up you idiot” scowled Beatrix
Rafael shrank back, it was clear Beatrix was in charge.
Once Sarah had reached the book she got out a pen from her pocket and started to flip through the pages, there were drawings of magical books and lockets, theatres, blackness, fields, sparkling beaches and so much more. Now she had to draw in it.
Without thinking, Sarah had been whisked away in writing in this book. She imagined relaxing in a comfy deck chair on a beach in California; the sea is calm and the wind just right. “Are you nearly done?” snapped the familiarly bossy voice of Beatrix, “Yes” she replied reluctantly, not happy to be woken out of her daze, but for some reason she liked Beatrix very much.
All of a sudden, a mechanical bird appeared out of nowhere, “Follow me” it called, excitedly Sarah followed. They ran through row upon row of doors, until finally they reached a blank patch of wall. Suddenly a flash of golden light appeared next to her- the bird seemed to be transforming into a door The door was teal with a with golden rims and a circular handle. It slid into place and Sarah’s mind suddenly started screaming at her, “open it, open it”.
Sarah gently blanketed her hand round the handle. It was cold, but the sensation was amazing, a tingle of excitement rushed through her body, like a surfer riding a wave. She opened the door. She stepped through. Sarah found herself in the most amazing place. Had she stepped into a room or was she just dreaming? “OWW, what was that for” shouted Sarah “you asked yourself if you were dreaming” remarked Beatrix, “what else did you expect me to do, stroke your hair?” Rafael giggled, Sarah giggled to. She then noticed the sea beckoning her towards it. “Can you guys swim?” asked Sarah “Yes!” they both said, clearly realising why she asked the question. Before they knew it they were each running towards the sea.
