Impossibility
Impossibility
You are the impossibility of a crescent moon unfolding into the depths of the unknown shadow of the sun.
You are the flame of a candle dancing on trickling wax that sat upon a small, chipped dish.
You are the last breath of time letting go, not knowing or wondering what comes next.
You are the jagged rocks of Mount Everest covered with a paper-thin layer of fresh snow.
You are the torn sails of an old ship dancing in the whirling wind.
You are the number three with a butterfly’s wings.
You are the lingering smell of smoke swirling around the empty room.
You are a sweet banana lying lifelessly on the countertop.
You are the impossibility of lightning dancing across the midnight sky.
You are a nightmare creeping like a spider slowly into someone’s head.
You are a drop of water longing for something to find you.
You are a tree quietly shedding it’s leaves in the sunset.
You are the month of January filled with hope.
You are a butterfly soaring the air, never stopping.
You are the taste of a delicious brownie, chocolatey and gooey, dripping with caramel.
You are as light as a snowflake falling from the heavily clouded sky.
You are a drunk man twisting and turning in the dark night.
You are as straight as a ruler.
You are a sad man in the dark alleyway of a city.
This is an excellent poem, well done everyone at Finzean! I particularly like the line, “You are the flame of a candle dancing on trickling wax that sat upon a small, chipped dish.” I think it paints a very strong image. However, there are plenty of other lines I could have picked. One small improvement you could make is to find opportunities to use “name it”. For example, the line, “You are a tree quietly shedding it’s leaves in the sunset.” might be improved by telling the reader what sort of tree it was, such as an oak tree. Keep up the great work, and we would love to hear your work performed as audio, too!
