With all the courage he had, Thomas crept over to the cottage to find it was exactly as he drew in the book of wonders. He swung the cottage door open and raced inside, hoping to find what he longed for. He stepped into the living room to find it empty and then changed direction for the kitchen – and that was also empty. Finally he came to the dining room. Sitting on the damp and mouldy chair, was a colossal sized, fuzzy, grizzly bear!
Thomas hid under the table next to the door on the opposite side of the room, hoping the bear wouldn’t find him. The bear roared as if it was being attacked by a lion. It stomped over to the table and bent down to find Thomas playing dead. He heard the bear snarl. Seconds later, he opened his eye to see a bear’s face a centimetre away from his own sweat-dripping face. Thomas screamed as loud as he could, hoping someone could hear him; he swept himself of the ground and from under the table then raced through the door as if he was running away from an explosion.
He could see the door in his sight, he ran and he ran until he could just about reach the door. It was locked, so he ran to shelter far away from the cottage and ended up near a very tall tree. Then he saw it: the humongous; brown; fuzzy grizzly bear!
