THE GRIM

The day had finally come. The day the world stopped. The day the world ended. Something had happened that made the world go crazy, the world was a rollercoaster but it only went down meanwhile the amount of disappearances went up. A creature from the depths of the underworld had escaped the pits of hell. A creature named the Grim. Brother and sister, Alex and Ellie knew all about the newest disappearances since the creatures main target for now was their home town, Cymeria. Unlike the Government itself they knew exactly what the disappearances were like. It had just past 7pm when they were playing in there room when they heard a scream, a blood-curdling scream that shocked them to their core. The scream of their parents. Fear engulfed them, they didn’t dare move. They knew exactly what had happened but still they didn’t want to believe it. The Grim had happened.

It had been a week since the incident, but instead of being sent to live in a foster home they moved in with their best friend Oliver. It was only temporary but none of them planned to stay for long anyway. After what had happened, Oliver, Ellie and Alex all decided it was too dangerous to stay, there story was just beginning. They knew the only way to stay safe was to stay as far away from the creature as possible until it stopped creating havoc. They planned out a journey by printing out a map of the local area and drawing their path to safety. Soon after a long day of mentally preparing themselves they left a note to Oliver’s mum explaining why they were gone before plucking up the courage to begin there trek to Spirt Wood. They knew it would be a long trip, luckily the sky was clear however there were some clouds in the sky so they knew it wouldn’t last long, it was like a little warning letting them know they had to be quick. It was a long journey and this was only a quarter of how far they had to go overall the entire journey would take them days! It wasn’t long till they escaped the skyscrapers of the cities and they were wandering on an ever-bending cobbled path that darted through the open country. It wasn’t really the country however just a bunch of open fields. Traversing through the open fields was easy, it was empty, short, wild grass with a bunch of colourful flowers blooming and the odd oak tree that towered towards the sky they were natures skyscrapers, there huge leafy branches camouflaged them from above, it hid them from the sun and was he perfect shade. Slowly, as their destination got slightly closer, the grass got taller, wilder, Heather started to appear and there was more life. Cows started to appear, the trio had never been this far into the country before. They were part of the wilderness. It had been hours now and it was midday, the warmth of the sun had faded now. The shade gifted from the trees wasn’t much like a gift anymore, it was just there. Entering the shade now made you flinch as it sent a shiver through out your body making you want to leave. It worked. Now, instead of tying their jackets round their waist leaving them to hang limply, they pulled them on. Ellie, zipping hers up, the others leaving them. Nobody talked much, it was hard to find conversation when leaving because a blood-sucking demon had stolen your parents and if that hadn’t happened to you, you had to leave your parents anyway to remain safe. Oliver remained the mot quite, he had never been the bravest, and what had happened took a toll on him. He was a lot more anxious than normal, scared that this monster called the Grim would jump behind him and steal him away even though the Grim had never attacked someone who wasn’t alone. Despite knowing, this if Oliver ever trailed behind he would quickly run to catch up or constantly check over his shoulder. The others told him not to worry but they themselves were anxious. Spirit wood, was still miles away and it was still continuing to get colder and later by the hour. Fortunately, despite being a cold day, it was late summer meaning it would stay light for longer than normal, so they could travel onwards for longer. It was four o’clock when it became noticeable but more trees were appearing, the cows were out of sight and the slight sound of twittering could be heard every time they walked under a tree. Robins were fluttering around them perching on branches, one was so low to the ground that if they wanted they could of reached out to touch it. Spirit Wood was close now, the could sense it. The trio could see the outskirts of the wood now. They could feel its magical touch. It was said that amongst the squirrels, dear and birds who lived amongst the trees, there were magical creatures too, such as miniature dragons, unicorns, centaurs and fairy’s ,who danced upon four leaf clovers, yet know one new if it was true, some people thought the stories were rumours, a hoax but Oliver, Ellie and Alex believed or at least they wanted it to be real.

2012

One day in the forest, there was a dinosaur just like one of them t-rexes out of that film called Jurrasic park or as people describe it as Jurrasic world. Two days ago the world fell silent. Two days ago there wasn’t even a tick of the clock. Two days ago the letter arrived. As the letter fell it looked something like an eagle swooping past like my friend’s bird jake. The letter said “you need to leave this forest asap, there is an army of pterodactyls and raptors teaming up to try and kill you, seems that you keep stomping on everything and everyone.

They want to get payback for everything you’ve done. Dave (the dinosaur) went to tescoos to buy some dino armer and get the dragon potion which will make him stronger, be able to fly, and blow dragon breath at his enemies when he gets angry. As he was walking-stomping at the corner of his eye he found something that would help him so much on his journey. Dave was delighted it was a …

Willy and the dragon

A long long time ago, there was a boy named Willy who lived with his mother in a small cottage in a nearby village. One snowy night,Willy decided to go into the woods and build a snowman. As he was looking for sticks (to use as arms) he noticed something unusual,he could feel as if something was amongst him.He thought he was imagining it but checked just to be sure. As he was picking up more snow he felt something.

It felt hard, scaly and rough. A few seconds later the object he was touching started to rise up. It had glowing eyes, turquoise skin and a long tail. It was a dragon and he was angry.Willy was scared. As Willy slowly backed away the dragon sped up. Willy ran as fast as he could to avoid being the dragon’s next meal. The dragon was spitting out sharp snowflakes. One of them barely missed Willy and his shirt tore.Willy ran into the village screaming for help as the dragon was barely behind him. The people in the village heard his cries for help and decided to help willy. As the dragon was chasing Willy, people were throwing spears and knives to kill the dragon. Willy managed to hide from the dragon and decided to get a sword from his mom’s room. Quietly, he sneaked into her room and took it. The sword was used to protect herself if anybody tried to rob the house. Willy put on a pair of new clothes and headed out. He found the dragon terrorizing the Village. When the dragon wasn’t looking,Willy hopped on its back and started stabbing the dragon as it screamed in pain. The dragon swerved hoping to get Willy off his back. Willy put the sword in the dragon’s eye and the dragon was blinded. After stabbing the dragon a few more times, the dragon was slayed. Willy went back into his cottage, put the sword back and went to sleep.

john westwood

Crack! 12 year old John Westhood, with a wooly hoodie to keep him warm from the cold snow elegantly falling from the sky, strolled into the back garden . John was an intelligent boy who had flaxen colored hair and lived in a small villa beside River Chithat. John had a dream to become an adventurer but his parents thought that was a dumb idea and he should carry on with his studies. But John didn’t give up.

One day, a letter came from King Chingum lll from the Furfuri Castle that there have been severe attacks on their castle and John parents needed to help, but there was a problem John’s father was on a business trip in a town 10 miles away and John’s mother couldn’t go to help King Chingum because she had her leg operated on two weeks ago. Later that day, John asked his mother that if he could go his mother didn’t really have a choice so she said yes .

In the afternoon , John and his friend Patlu set off to get to the other side of River

Chithat. Then they eat their samosas that John’s mother packed for them. After that, John and Patlu wrote a letter to John’s mother about how nice the samosas were and if  she had put chutney on  it would’ve been better.

Later on, when they got to Crying Boy Hill it was midnight so Patlu said to John , Should we rest and then we’ll carry on with the journey tomorrow? John said yes .

The next day, when they reached Furfuri castle they found the only severe attack was the king’s wife Shabana torturing him.

Chapter4 Secret Emporium

The Hidden Emporium

 Prologue

You may have lived in your street for years, maybe even your whole life. Maybe, you know it so well and have been in every single shop you think there is, but trust me, there is more. Hidden secrets lie in every town, village or city, secrets that are so big you wouldn’t understand how you missed it in the first place! So, the next time you are out and about, look in every alleyway, turn every corner, follow a new path. But beware of the consequences…

Chapter 1- Through the door.

Ruaridh’s favourite thing to do was write in his journal. He wasn’t nosy, he was just adventurous. Every interesting thing he saw, he wrote down in his journal. Most of the children in his class would ask to read it, but what was written inside Ruaridh’s blue leather diary was a secret, even to his three sisters.

Now that he was twelve, Ruaridh was allowed to go out on his own without an adult, to write down anything intriguing or peculiar that he could see. One bright morning, when the air was neither warm nor cold, he left a note to his mother to tell her that he was going out for a walk in the town. At a steady pace, he walked along the pavement, passing about twenty-three shop windows, but nothing interesting caught his eye, so he kept on walking. If Ruaridh had blinked at this time he wouldn’t have seen it, but a man had clutched an advertising sign about McDonalds, pulled it open and slipped in.

Subtly, Ruaridh followed, grasping the sign, and slipping behind. This was certainly something to write in the diary! This mysterious door led to a beautiful hallway filled with fairy lights like purple drops of starlight. As he walked further in, there formed an entrance to a giant room.

Above his head, Ruaridh read: Wonders of the World! He was so excited to step into this amazing rooms full of wonders! The room was a sort of quadrilateral shape with another hallway with what looked like hotel rooms. Hidden by a crimson curtain, was a colossal glass dining table filled where delicious dishes sat. The dish-plates were so shiny, Ruaridh could see his reflection clearly. Creamy carbonara with bacon, mushroom and spinach was piled on top of spaghetti, peperoni pizza, so juicy that sauce oozed out, and much more.

Swiftly, Ruaridh scribbled all the things he had just seen with detail so he could share it to his family. The more he looked in this one room full of treasures, there was even more that he wanted to pick up and touch. His senses were filled with happiness as he found more.

On an old crackly wall, sat a mirror. Ruaridh stared into it and admired the environment around him. Suddenly, he spotted a man behind his right shoulder, wearing dusty, black top hat; a chameleon of blues and greens, sat perched on his shoulder like a sneaky, sly sidekick. “I see you’ve found my Emporium,” he spoke with a wide grin…

Chapter 2- A Warning Disobeyed

“My name is Larry Copper, you can call me Larry if you want,” suggested Mr Copper, “You can look around but please do not enter any of the rooms without my permission” he warned. Ruaridh smiled to show that he understood.

A split second later, Larry disappeared inside his top hat like some sort of magician, and he was gone. However, the chameleon stayed and hopped off his shoulder. The reptile grabbed the nearest pen and wrote on a piece of paper that had randomly appeared; my name is Cara. Ruaridh greeted her with a, hello Cara! It looked like she smiled but she was a chameleon of course so he couldn’t be sure.

Her scaly skin glistened in the light of the glass chandelier that hung from the centre of the ceiling, which caused greens and blues to flicker.

Cara hopped up on Ruaridh’s shoulder and they walked down a wide corridor that he had somehow never noticed before. He knew not to disobey any adults’ orders and rules, but this hallway seemed like it was hypnotising him, even the name plates on the silver doors seemed appealing. Each room was a sample of a country or place in the world.

The 9th door read “Hawaii”. Hawaii was always a place that Ruaridh longed to go with all its beaches, hot weather, and huts; it was nothing like Scotland! Carefully, he turned the handle clockwise and the door creaked open. A gust of hot wind blew in his face, and it was then he knew, Larry Copper was magic.

Although Ruaridh tried to resist, he just could not. His excitement was pulling him in. He closed his eyes in hope that he would be back in the main room with Larry Copper, but no, as his feet touched the sand, they sunk in.

Maybe, just maybe, he could explore just as long as he got back before Larry did. Ruaridh slipped his blue trainers off and started to run further in. The door was far from view now…

Chapter 3

Carefully, he jogged along the beach, avoiding any stones or shells that might hurt his feet. Ruaridh felt the wet sand invading in between his toes, as he carried on further. Where about eight palm trees stood, there were empty sun loungers, rays of sun bounced off Ruaridh’s back; rows upon rows of tropical trees sat next to each other behind him like a shield of shade; an unfamiliar bird song rang in his ear; and as the waves from the sea reached the rocks, it caused them to glitter iridescently in the shimmering sun.

Ruaridh searched but he could not find anybody, nobody that is except for Cara his chameleon companion and the birds in the canopy of trees. His feet lead him in further through the tropical climate, the sound of the sea following him everywhere. Pepsi cans and cocktails were laid out on the bar table waiting to be drank. He got further into the centre of the unimaginable room, now his eyes could see special beach houses and huts made from sticks.

Suddenly, the birds stopped singing. The world around him grew quiet. The only sound came from a bird who was flying round and round in circles in distress. He could hear his heart beating in his chest. The ground started to shake, but it wasn’t an earthquake…

“TSUNAMI!” he heard somebody scream. Swiftly, he stood up, put his mocktail down, and bolted in the opposite direction of the beach. Ruaridh was the fastest in his class, so speed wasn’t letting him down. Suddenly he remembered, if there is a tsunami, you need to get up as high as possible off the ground. But in the direction, he was running, the ground didn’t go up any higher than 4 metres.

The only elevated level he could see was further west. There was only one problem; the gigantic wave was coming from the west. Without thinking, he sprinted into the direction of the tsunami, hoping for his dear life that he would make it to the hill before the natural disaster did. He reached the hill and started climbing. Cara sat on Ruaridh’s shoulder, closing her eyes in fear.

They watched together as the tsunami grew closer, turning browner from the sand and all the trees at was swooping up and taking. They were about halfway up the hill.

It was then that the tsunami hit…

Chapter 4

Slowly, Ruaridh’s eyes opened, his blue iris glistened. Cara was asleep on his chest, snuggled up in his pocket, like a sleeping bag. The only sound that echoed in the atmosphere, was the Nene’s sweet tune as it flew across the cadet grey sky which used to be baby blue.

Astonished to find that he was bone dry, he stood up and looked around at what could have been a bomb sight. All the vivid green palm trees had been crushed and were lying on the floor lifelessly. The only mark that the tsunami had left on him was bleeding cut, located just above his right eyebrow and to be honest, he didn’t think it hurt that much.

As he walked further and further down the hill, he could see more clearly, all the huts and houses that had been destroyed and demolished by the giant wave leaving them in piles of bricks and sticks. Cara was still asleep in his pocket.

His leg was a little bit sore, but Ruaridh could still walk so it wasn’t too bad. Finally, he reached the bar where he had started a mocktail. The glasses were smashed and the wooden awning that kept shelter was destroyed. Ruaridh still had bare feet, so he jumped onto a crooked chair and jumped back over, avoiding the broken glass.

Slowly, Ruaridh reached his blue trainers with his green socks tucked inside them. Carefully, he slipped his shoes and socks back on, took a deep breath, and pulled the door and round, and opened it with force.

He jumped at the sight of Larry Copper standing at the door, as if he had been waiting for him. “Ah I see you’re back,” he said grinning, “have you learned your lesson?”. Ruaridh gulped and nodded his head. Suddenly, Larry waved his hands on Ruaridh’s cut and it was gone. “Come again next time”, Larry said smiling. He scooped the Chameleon out of Ruaridh’s pocket and disappeared with the emporium.

“What an adventure”, Ruaridh sighed.

“A scary one”, a voice behind him said. Swiftly, his head turned round. Nobody was there…
