“My name is Lucian Malfoy,” he said, watching Gabby as she stumbled backwards, awkwardly. “This is my shop. Do you like it?” Gabby didn’t know how to respond so she nodded to agree. “Here is my Book of Secrets. You are welcome to look around the shop but DO NOT touch anything that is not for sale and DO NOT touch that book!”
A moment later, Mr Lucian Malfoy had vanished in a puff of smoke, behind a certain (at the back of the shop) and Gabby was alone. She realised that she had been holding her own hand the whole time. Continuing to look around, Gabby looked at the book again. It was like it was calling her. She has longed to look at what was hidden amongst its forbidden pages. She glanced round the certain to find an empty corridor which had appeared to have at least a hundred different doors. Where do they all lead to, she imagined?
While turning back, she reached for the book and opened it. Each page contained a different wonder or some sort of magical world. There were drawings and paragraphs about different cities, towns, villages, distant worlds, forest houses, deserts, ocean castles, mountains and more. In each door were wonders beyond imagining.
The next thing Gabby knew, there was a pencil in her hand and she was sketching a forest and inside the forest was a village with a huge castle in the middle. Through the window of the castle, Gabby drew the outline of the thing she longed for most of all at that time.
After sketching, the white owl appeared and wrote on paper ‘this way’. Gabby, without thinking, closed the book and followed. The owl flew down the corridor (at speed) until it came to a freshly painted door at the other end of the corridor. It perched upon the door handle, turned its head facing the door and tapped on the door with its beak. Gabby knew what she had to do. The owl flew onto her shoulder; she put her hand on the handle, opened the door and entered.
She stepped in, not into a room, but into a fully green forest. Sunlight peeked through cracks in the trees, she just paused and listened. It was quite soundless, except for the sound of birds chirping and soaring through the trees. A path curled away from her, towards a village and a castle. The strangest thing was that it looked just as she had imagined; exactly as she had drawn inside Mr Malfoy’s book. Without thinking for a second, without looking back, without any regret, Gabby ran down the path towards the village and castle.
