part 4- onward

Many minutes later, the crew returned. The skyship was fixed, the balloon was patched, and they were drifting through the mist, only a map to guide them. The eagle had eaten and drank and was now fast asleep on John’s arm. Its wing was bandaged, but it would heal.

Max was alone on the helm, crouching on a barrel and gazing into the stars. John wandered over and joined him. ”Thinking of home?” John asked. ”Yup,” Max replied. They chatted away, pointing out the odd shooting star, or view of a planet.

Suddenly, They heard something. A loud scrape rung in Max’s ears. John pulled him down and ducked. The eagle woke with a start, and flew to the mast. Alone, it stared into the gloom and shrieked. It zoomed back to the 2 children and hid under Max’s arm. What could be so scary?

Suddenly, someone chuckled. John whipped round and stared blankly at Ava, a crewmate in her 20’s. ”You silly old chumps!” She said, ”that’s just C2EB, the survey drone. It must have scraped against the hull accidentally.‘’

Ava beckoned. ”You better get to bed before you think anything else is an evil demon.” ”Really?” They both moaned. ”Yes” Ava said sternly.
In ten minutes, Max was snoring like a pig. John, however, was wide awake. he couldn’t help thinking something would go wrong.

part 3 of my skyship adventure- a new passenger

Max, who’s lip trembled, whimpered and ran to the ship. A scratching noise echoed through the castle and John went to its source. Around the corner, a small bird-like creature was crying out, as a large boulder had fallen on its wing. John rushed to help it, and after closer inspection, he knew it had to be a baby eagle. It had a tiny dagger like beak that gleamed in the moon, and 2 beady eyes that bored into his mind. John stepped one small step closer, and crouched down next to it. Suddenly, he heard a rock tumbling, and he whipped around. Max’s small, pale face poked out of a doorframe.

John scowled and turned around again. He broke into a sweat, trying to remove the boulder without harming the poor bird. Once the rock was gone, John picked up the bird gently and it leapt onto his arm, gripping firmly. ”It’s fine,” said John, ”It’s a baby eagle, but it’s hurt. Go get the medical supplies!” Max ran of into the gloom…

part 2- skyship adventure

The captain burst into laughter, smacking his hand on the railing. John wondered how they were going to get down. He stared below the skyship and his jaw dropped. Below him, was the ruin of what used to be an ancient fortress, but was now only an outline.

Suddenly, the oars snapped in two, and the skyship fell. It spun in circles, and black smoke trailed out of the engine room. The Haniver crashed into the misty trenches with an ear piercing thud. Max, John and the captain stumbled out of the ship and inspected the damage.

Max decided to wander off, and get a better view of his surroundings. A fallen drawbridge flopped lazily on the floor in front of him, and spears were stabbed into the ground, as if there had been a long-lasting battle on this very spot. Doors and windows sagged downwards, and large drains lay open, like they had been used recently.

When Max got back to the Haniver, No-one was there. He knew they were searching for supplies. All of a sudden, he heard a cough. Anxiously, Max ran towards the sound. He turned a corner and… John was collecting bits of metal for the ship.

Without warning, a ghastly shadow loomed over them…

Skyship adventure- The Haniver.

John tugged the riggings, his hands sweating wildly. He choked back a scream as the Haniver lurched closer to the mountain. Suddenly, the skyship was tugged upwards, dodging the cliff by millimetres. He reached for Max, but he wasn’t there. Instead, he was staring confidently at the sky in front of him. The Haniver creaked and groaned like an 100-year-old bridge.

Without warning, 3 monstrous shadows flew past the ship, spewing fire from their mouths. The ship started to lean to one side, and smouldering wood toppled of the starboard. Max tugged out his telescope but saw nothing but endless storm clouds. The captain flung the wheel left and yelled, ”Hold onto your hats!”

The engines cut. The sails retracted. The air hissed out of the dragon- skin balloon and the Haniver toppled out of the sky. Horrible screams echoed from behind but no one dared to look back. They were too busy clinging onto the railings for dear life. John’s fingers ached like they were going to explode.

Abruptly, the wailing stopped. Had the evil dragons lost them? John had other things to worry about. Out of the blue, everything started up again and the skyship came to a halt. It was hovering 10ft above the ground with 2 shivering crewmates and a crazy captain.

10 things I took on a sky ship adventure…

A mystical portal from outer space,

Where you enter in one universe, exit in another.

An evil entity from outer space to ensure my safety,

Like a bodyguard for a celebrity.

Five desperate wishes of hope,

only to be used in a crisis.

A metal helm from the darkest forges of Mordor,

A trophy of an ancient battle.

A gift from an ancestor; two ever-burning matchsticks,

lighting the way, like a torch in a cave.

A ride on the Styx,

as rough as a brick on sandpaper.

A ticking timer from another world,

Twisting the fabric of time.

A thin thesaurus for expressing feelings,

As useful as ever.

A vampire’s fang ripped from the gums of count Dracula,

Like a dagger, used as a weapon.

A slice of bread from my mother’s bakery,

soft and perfect.

That is what I took on my magic adventure,

But it might not be enough…
