Chapter 2 – When the Thunder Strikes

Blaze glared up at Thomas. Her eyes were shallow and hollow, shining a sapphire beam into his eyes. Her feathers fading then renewing down to Blaze’s scaly legs. Her beak glowing like the sun just starting to hide behind the horizon. Claws clenched Thomas’s skin as Blaze started to gaze at her claws; blunt and ornate. Blaze’s pupils in her eyes like pills made from shards of stars lighting the onyx night sky. Snake like legs slithered across Thomas’s arm, Thomas smiled at Blaze, however she did not notice at all.

Blaze’s personality is strange, she is brave as a lion protecting her pride, Blaze is an Osprey, she mainly feeds on fresh water fish and soars like an angel gliding in blue abyss of the perfect sky. To Thomas’s pure amazement she opened her beak and a forever going black cave attracted his eyes. Suddenly, she snapped her miniature jaws close and the sharp apex of her beak overlapped her bottom part of the beak.

“She likes you,” said Miss Cave, as Blaze started to perch on a lam post to take flight. Thomas gazed up at her and could not help it but crack a small shy shimmer of a smile. On their way back to the town, the midnight wind whistled and rustled the leaves. In Blunt Acre, the trees themselves were shivering. Moonlight illuminated the path ahead of them. Thomas sensed that they were being watched by something or someone he was aware and on guard. He stopped dead in his tracks and peered back between the trees and the bush. For a minute, he thought that he saw the misleading eyes of a small Osprey.

One summers night, Blaze was sitting on a small wooden post, she let Thomas stroke her back; her feathers trickled. Within weeks, she would cuddle up against his shoulder for scraps of leftovers from his dinner. Thomas always gave in a silently scraped spare meat and vegetables off the plate and it poured onto a small bowl made by Thomas especially for Blaze herself. Once Thomas’s chores were finished he would open the front gate and go for a small 5 mile hike up his local hill. Meaning Blaze could stretch her beautiful wings and fly for minutes maybe even a hour. Thomas adored Blaze – he had done everything for her, when he was at school doing the normal subjects of school he thought of Miss Cave caring for Blaze and pampering her to the most of her abilities.

Over the couple of months, Miss Cave began to notice that Blaze was starting to admire him and do everything he wanted; which wasn’t much.

Evacuee Letter

Dear Mom,
What an adventure: the train drive was so exciting. I would like to let you know that I dearly appreciate my fresh apple that I clutched in my hand and ate on the station platform; my jam sandwich was amazing and super nice and tasty. And my small toffee, well that was just the best treat ever I bet that took so many rationing deals to get that, thank-you so much. I thoroughly enjoyed my food. But we stopped by multiple train stations to stop and switch trains it was very tiring; to make it worse all of the trains were extremely slow. Luckily, there were beautiful fields and different species of trees it was breath-taking. Awkwardly, there were also some black and grey clouds grazing in the meadows none of the children knew what they were except from the driver, did you know that sheep grazed in meadows?

When we ventured off the train, all of the children including me were quickly escorted to a small village hall, based in Rockhampton. We were greeted by many adults sitting down and looking us up and down, we all knew we were all going to get chosen now which could be good or not so peaceful. Suddenly, an officer walked through the door and peered at everyone. A large bell rang and one lady pointed at me and said you, I want you stand up young boy you are with me now. The officer ran over and gave the lady , what they call a law slip. Minutes later I was taken to a small but lovely cottage nestled in a spruce forest small lanterns surrounded the house, a few fields.

Promise for Life

Promise for Life

Promises are made from-
long lost lies and troublesome truths,
awaiting popularity,
to take the stage,
and secret scales from a fierce snake wanting prey and preparing to pounce,
and a sample of a cotton cloud hovering elegantly,
through the sapphire sky.

Promises can be found-
in the deepest of caves looming in the victorious rock,
and they can be crouched in the forever ending space of the onyx abyss,
buried in the sad soil, screeching for pure help.

Promises can-
pause time and control planets,
in the wrong hands they can shatter hearts made of gold,
they can freeze secret silent soles and defy magic,
whispering to stars is their comfort and the stars can shout to the moon.

If any promise will be lost it can either save dying hearts or crush hopeful soles,
either way,
a promise cannot be broken.

Nature Express

Nature Express

A wild Silver birch
sat quietly, forgetting the past and embracing the future,
like a nature activist; helping the planet.

Small Blue-bells
swaying in the breeze like a confused balloon,
and a savage swipe of beauty.

A grey Heron,
soaring through the sky,
stalking its prey making a menu,
containing fresh water fish.

Emerald kelp,
wiggling in the sea,
being strips of green thread,
holding on to the secret sand.

Perfect pansies,
illuminating the sad soil,
being amazing statures posing perfectly.

Hoar Thorn,
being the collector of spikes,
the dangerous bush thriving.

Elegant Swallows,
soar through the sky,
with the sun rolling high,
in the sapphire sky.

The Ship of Light

The Ship of Light

The ripples in the waves, gnaw at the miniature boats awaiting their captains,
to go on a brave adventure to for fill their destiny.

The moon illuminated the sea,
as the waves lapped over the silent sand bathing over rocks,
making a massive mound.

Lanterns brighten up the abandoned ship bobbing up and down,
on the serene waves,
holding the sea as it lives forever.

Suddenly, Thunder echoed in the corridor of water,
lightening struck wildly nearly striking a miniature wooden boat,
by an abandoned dock.

The night stars guiding many ships,
being their mental map forever living,
greedy to serve and delivery.

The moon looking down on the stars brightening the night,
soaring, serving, saving.

On the ship of light,
rope coils up like a cobra,
tapping against the oak hull of the ship.

Mouseamander Week 5

Chapter 4 I feel the temptation to run away but the back of the wall greets my spine and stubs my heals. I gulp in anxiousness, I notice a large twig-made nest containing two yellow eggs speckled with blue sand splotches; and the shells shining glumly and making a ball like fire in the centre of the cave. I see that Jennifer legs are trembling and her voice screeches quietly disturbing the mouseamander.

The mouseamander stops and leans it large head down, it’s cerulean blue eyes glare at mine holding sight of us both while we continue to creep closer and closer to the entrance, or at least Jennifer does; I stay back also glaring at exit. “We are bot going to harm you or you lovely eggs we come in peace” I say quietly, hold my arms and opening my hands to revealing nothing to be sitting in my palms. The creature squeaks curiously and takes one steps side-ways. I stare at the mouseamander looking at its eyes, twitching and staring peacefully at me. “It’s working the mouseamander is calm and not acting viciously!”

I can see Jennifer making her way towards the exit of the cave I quickly follow and we are nearly out of the cave when the sun beams across the sand even maybe the sun is happy to see us we quickly duck behind the marram grass and peer at the cave, and then leave the beach relieved.

Outside, I take a large deep breath and sigh in relief knowing we are safe for now, and the exciting departure running into the sand and going inside the warmth of the post-office and our journey is long and slow but the fog makes a pathway for us to walk back. Inside, we can hear some muffled scratches and cracking twigs of the mouseamander nestling in its eggs, getting ready for the warm boiling night.

The fog has gone to sleep and the stars reflect onto the ocean and the stars flicker in the onyx black sky. All is still and calm, we walk back across the promenade and talk to each other whispering so no body can hear just encase they are awake. We talk about that no one can find the mouseamander and the cave and her eggs, “Maybe we could report a rock fall, or quicksand sightings, or maybe maybe just we could say that the place is unsafe for travellers and people trying to explore.” I try and take in everything that Jennifer is saying but she is speaking many miles per hour, but I can see that she is determined to save the creature and her eggs.

By the time we are walking through the town, it is wakening, and too is the beautiful sky; the birds are chirping and the the tide goes back out. We soon see ice-cream cafes are quickly tiding their awning and getting ready to collet some money from the locals. Chippy’s chip shop is opening its shutters and opening the windows to let in the lovely day. Claire’s cake shop is setting out the deckchairs and putting up the umbrellas so the customers don’t get sun-burn. And the bucket and spade vendors put out their new collection of gear and Gary (The person who work there) waves to us and say chipperly, “You children okay and bright, woke up early? We smile at each other knowingly and wave back and smile.

I fumble with the keys opening the Post-Office it is cold and quiet and empty, we entre the room darkness surrounds us. As I open the cupboard I think to my self that he eggs need to be protected and kept away from prying eyes wanting the shell worth thousands of pounds just for one person.

I say to Jennifer quickly not trying to forget this wonderful idea I said in a excited voice we could visit the Museum and try and find some interesting facts about the mouseamander and find out if it had ever been seen before we have visited the cave. It was drizzling with rain outside but we both ignored it and headed over the street to get to the Museum and I was drenched when we entered the Museum. We quickly but still quietly sprinted round to the “History” section and Jennifer grabbed hundreds of books and simply read. Hours past.

All day, Jennifer has her nose stuck in thousands of books. Jennifer was none stop, she looked in so many books trying to figure out if any past time had something to reveal. Soon enough Jennifer found a book which shown a Captain Fisherman who set sail and was fishing and, after minutes he caught something it was so heavy, it took so many harsh minutes to try and haul it out but soon enough it came out it was a egg of a mouse devil, it was a mouseamander egg it had a small glow and yellow specks on it, it was just like the other we had just found. Jennifer skipped to the end and found a small note saying that any mander species must be killed without any hesitation. We both gulped and anxiousness rushed through me.

That evening, we talk. Our adventure is not over it has just begun.

The Week of Wonders.

On Monday, I saw amples of bats,
swooping and swishing around the ghost white house,
their screeches echoed through the night sky,
littered with shining stars.

On Tuesday, I heard the moans of two beautiful deer,
prancing around the emerald field,
every step infused with joyfulness.

On Wednesday, I tasted the frost and snow of the crisp morning,
thousands of birch trees had frosted fingers,
which swayed in the freezing breeze.

On Thursday, I dreamt of travelling to the moon,
and knowing the unknown thinking about the future,
satellites floating through the blackness,
mysterious people living on other planets.

On Friday, I found a solitary cloud drifting in the air,
soaring slowly, but who would mind.
he does his own speed and that is all that matters.

On Saturday, I heard the ripples and rapids,
of a well known river it was peaceful there,
remote and closed off to the busy world.

On Sunday, I saw mud infused tracks whistling,
into the small lonely forest,
but the forest had a few friends because he was wild,
and the animals where wild too.

Chapter 3

Throughout the afternoon, James lay down on the cold concrete floor feeling under the weather. However, Esther prowled around the dark, damp and dusty coal shed, the coal shed got colder by the second not helping Esther trying to search for opportunities to escape. Esther spent her own time staring vaguely out of the window, checking anything to get out. The glass seemed to be shaped like diamonds and stars it was actually quite time consuming. She soon spotted a little bit of glass which was missing from the window, she put her mouth close to it and shouted for help, while James gave up and didn’t see the point in it anymore. Brackenbridge Manor was to far away from the main road for anybody to hear anything. Esther pushed, shrugged and banged at the bricks, they wouldn’t move one inch. It was useless, terrible, disappointing.

Every so often, Esther released her building up anger on James, “Instead of lying there making your self look like a stuffed teddy you could actually help me for once!” However, James just ignored Esther and just sulked in the corner, lost within sadness. In conclusion Esther started to tap and nudge the solid walls looking if any inch was hollow. In the end, it all came down to the door. Esther thought to her self is there any way to unlock this door lock. Esther spent most of her time rattling her hair pin into the lock, desperately trying to hack the lock. Exasperated, she spun round once again and launched her anger and frustration onto James, “I can’t do this by myself get up and help me will you, just try!” James once again ignored her and shrugged away in the corner curled up like a ball.
“There is no point what so ever, just give up now Esther.” he murmured and muttered to himself.
“You haven’t even tried to get out, you then may find a point to help.” Esther retorted, standing up sighing at James in irritation and frustration, anger raged through her.

James sat while Esther stood in silence. Esther twiddled her hair and pressed her fingers together in annoyance. Esther stewed with pure anger. Esther could not believe that James could give up so easily, she sighed dishearteningly, “Theres no way out is there, it is no use?” by how much time has been wasted it was already evening, they both knew they were tired, they couldn’t go on for much longer. Inside the coal shed, dark gloomy shadows stretched and covered every moonlit space in the shed. Outside, stationary stars freckled the night sky. The full moon cast a white sheet of Brackenbridge Manor.

Half awake half asleep, Esther heard a familiar tingling of the grass. From outside of the coal shed, there was a whisper, a noice, a groan. It was Tyson. Within a second Esther poked her head out of the window and examined Tyson, soon enough James woke up with a startle, then he too was staring out of the window. Esther carefully and calmly reached down only for her finger-tips touching Tyson’s cold fur, he nuzzled her hand and slumped to the ground with a thud, “need a wind-up, and fast” Tyson mumbled with pure exhaustion. Esther soon turned the cold iron key round several times hidden beneath his shoulder blades.

Thirty Ticks later, Esther, Tyson and James took some rest and shelter in an old ornate abandoned barn with half a roof, sadly James had hay-fever so it wasn’t the best time for James. Wasting time Tyson cleaned his already clean paws and stared at his singed fur from the night of John Hartman missing, it reminded Tyson of him it made him feel he could of done better to protect him if he even is dead. By then James had enough and started collecting some semi-damp wood and sadly hay to light a fire. Blazing towards them it infused them with pure heat by now they were warm through. They were free and safe for now but Esther was still worrying of what’s yet to come. “Where is the vase and John Hartmans designs?” Esther thought to herself. But most all Where was John Hartman himself.
