Chapter 3

All morning, Robert sat miserably staring at the wall while playing with his fingers. However, Haelynn  stood, determined to find a way out.

She spent some time at the window, trying to check if she could go through but she was too big.The glass had shattered into little bits so she tried yelling for help but lost hope in the end.The Road was too far away from the house for anyone to hear them. She kicked her foot against the bricks but it wouldn’t budge.

Almost every few hours, Haelynn  snapped at Robert.

“If you think slouching  will help us you’re wrong! get it together Robert!” However, Robert sat emotionless, now staring at the ground. So, Haelynn kicked at the trying to identify if they were weak. In the end, the door was left. Was there a way of unlocking the door? Haelynn spent a long time trying to unlock the door with her lucky coin, which didn’t work.

Annoyed, she spun round and let out her anger on Robert.

“I can’t do this alone! Can’t you at least try?” Robert lauded his eyes on her.

“It’s no use, no matter what you do, we will never get out of here, not with those ideas.” Robert mumbled.

“But you haven’t tried!” Haelynn yelled with frustration in her eyes.

Haelyen and Robert both sat silent and still. She tapped the floor with irritation. It seemed like she had tried everything and worse, Robert looked like he had lost all hope. Right now, it was almost evening. Inside, Robert had been wondering if ghosts had been lurking around here. The lights were flashing on and off. Outside, it was pouring. Lightning illuminated the night sky.

Just as Haelynn  was about to sleep, she heard something. Outside that was a whisper in a bush. A movement. Within a minute they found themselves both peering out.  A loud bark echoed and two green eyes twinkled. Haelynn spread her arms out and Quinn nuzzled her hand. “Need some help?” she smirked sitting as close to the window as she could. Haelynn  stretched her arm out and turned the key that was on Quinn’s head.

Enigma Necklace Chapter 3

For hours, Luca sat on the uncomfortable coal, frowning to the floor and the ceiling. However, Ruby marched around the shed, knocking on walls to make sure they were sturdy.

She lingered near the hole in the wall, checking is she could push out any bricks and fit through the gap, but it was fruitless. Ruby tried kicking the door, but it only shook and was too secure. This place was inescapable. The she tried to throw coal at the door, but was faced with terrible results.

Frequently, Ruby would bellow at Luca at the tope of her voice, saying” Instead of lying there like a log about to be chopped , you could at least help me find a way out!”                                                                        However, Luca remained still and sad, his devastation consuming him. So, Ruby began to dig through the coal piles, to find anything that could somewhat help. Ultimately, it came down to the barely- reachable windows. Ruby spent ages jumping up to see if there was a sign of life.

Frustrated, Ruby gently span around and directed her bottled rage at Luca, “Well, you could at least help, couldn’t you? I’m not the 0nly one trapped here, am I?” Luca didn’t respond.                                         “It’s pointless. We’re trapped and not escaping,” he eventually replied.                                                              “But at least I’m trying. Why can’t you?” Ruby hissed , tapping her foot and her face going red with wrath.

They stopped speaking. Ruby huffed and puffed intolerantly and let her blood burn and boil. There was no apparent escape route and, to add on, Luca was now hopeless. It was now deep in the night. Inside darkness sprawled itself across the shed and worsened Ruby’s vision. Outside, the sky was now sparkling with the distant light of joyous stars and the hazy gleam of the full moon beamed over Steelpass.

Before Ruby could nod off, a noise awoke her. From outside, a rustle of chatting leaves. Instantly, the pair jumped to their feet and lifted each other up to catch a glimpse of what created the noise outside of the window. A thrilling howl shattered the night’s peace and a shaggy outline of the something edged closer. Alexis jumped up through the window and into the shed.                                                                          “W-w-wind m-m-zppt-me u-u-up-zppt,” he buzzed.                                                                                                 Ruby stoked him and then reached for his neck so she could get Alexis’ key and wind him up

Alexis soon recharged and was now more jumpy and energetic. He shook his fur and dropped a gold key.

“Let’s get movin’,” he droned. He cracked his knuckles on the floor, as if he was preparing to fight.

With care, Ruby pushed the key into it’s hole and twisted it. For a hope-drenching second, the key did not move but then there was a click and a snap and the door was miraculously open. Ruby and Luca gazed outside. The coal shed was near the drawing room, but no sound came from it and all the lights were out. Moments later, they were vaulting across the field and to the gate. Alexis lead the pack, sauntering ahead.

Half an hour later, they were sat in a stable, taking refuge in it. Ruby informed Alexis on everything while he attentively listened and collected the information, picking dirt out of his fur. He had evaded the scene just before Goldfinch took the papers. By now Luca had lit a fire and prepped hay beds that were comfy enough to catch some sleep. They were safe at the moment, but they didn’t know where the necklace or the papers were. Where was he information? Where was Ruby’s Papa? Where was Peter Stanford.

Chapter 3

Some time later, the children were locked into a cold basement  at the back of the garden and behind some bushes. There was only a tiny window to the outside world. You couldn’t see much, only the concrete ground and a fence nearby. “No use !” shouted Joe. The window was too small to wriggle through. The old wooden  door was strongly closed and there was no point kicking it out; it would only hurt. “ the snake,” whispered Rosie excitedly . “He’s double-crossed my papa”.

“We will never get out of here!” said Joe so quietly so that no one could hear him.

“There is no point !” shouted Joe.

“YES WE WILL!!” yelled Rosie with determination.

All afternoon, Rosie was still trying to get out. She tried to wriggle through the small window but she failed. The window had no glass so Rosie was screaming for help but the basement was just too hidden, too far away for anyone to hear her.

No matter what she kept trying to yell , scream anything she could think of but nothing worked.Joe sat on the cobblestone floor in depression. However, Rosie didn’t; she kept trying and trying; she never lost hope. Rosie tried pushing out the bricks, nevertheless nothing moved.

Just as the night covered the land and Rosie was drifting away to sleep she heard a distinct crunch of gravel. Her heart racing, two blue eyes shone on her as Rosie walked towards the window. A small but probably precious key was between the creature’s shoulder blades.  Rosie knew it wasn’t a human; it had four legs and two floppy ears.  “A dog?” This question was Rosie’s  in mind. The creature passed the golden key to Rosie. She opened the door and shouted “ we are free”. Joe woke up with excitement on his face.

“Now let’s get out of here!!” yelled Rosie.

End of chapter 1

Just then, Rosie heard an identifying wouf and a well-known face appearing from some flowers behind her, “by all the ticks, you’ve taken a very long time to get out of that place!” said Rocky, “oh c’mon give me a wind-up will you? I have used up a lot of energy getting out of there. It is miles away. Why didn’t we meet somewhere that was closer huh?”

Chapter 2

That night, Joe was stunned to see Rocky and Rosie standing in Creep St. It was a horrifying place. Who came in never came back. “Of course it was your dad’s decorated locket.” Said Joe in a mysterious voce.

“This locket was something that your Dad treasured, he didn’t take his eyes off it even I started to get kinda creeped out. Anyway, what are you two doing here? You’re not supposed to be here, it is not a place for an 11 year old or a tiny kitten.” “Do not disrespect me. I am not a kitten I’ am a large and terrifying cat !!” shouted Rocky angrily . Kevin ,Rosie’s father, had put the silver locket beside Rosie’s night table every time she dozed off to sleep .

Alertly, Rosie stared up to her papa’s study but there was no was no recogniseable light burning. Outside, the wind howled like a wolf . Rosie tugged out her keys and unlocked the door. It reverberated open but rather than of the cosy warmth  that she was used to, the house felt chilly and unwelcoming. Inside shadows stretched their fingernails across every cold corner.

Rosie and Joe went upstairs and headed for her room. Rocky sniffed around, sneaking clues. Inside her room, Rosie was happy that her mother didn’t mess with everything because her stuff was where it should be. Rosie was glad that her mom didn’t even touch her secret drawer. Rosie cept all her secrets there. “WOW that is too pink for me!!”said Joe.

prologue

Elora squinted out of the snow covered window sill.

The three eyed monster galumphed closer and closer it was as loud as a bomb it felt like Elora’s ears had shattered into 1000 pieces. All of a sudden  the odd looking monster shouted “Listen silly little girl

its humans vs mechanicals!!!!!!

Enigma Necklace Chapter 2

Steelpass slept silently. Gingerly, Ruby edged towards the door and tried to listen out for someone’s footsteps, anyone’s footsteps. She heard none. Outside, leafless trees jutted out of the ground like sore fingers, damaging the beauty of the autumn day. Their spindly branches swiped at the sky, as if they were rabid animal’s claws. Ruby turned the door handle and pushed it open. The hinges whined in protest. She remembered when the house was full of joy and warmth, now those feelings were not present. Inside, the house was blanketed with soot, like fine dust for demons.

Ruby and Luca vaulted up the creaky stairs and into Ruby’s room. Alexis started continuously sniffing, making sure nothing mysterious was happening. Inside Ruby’s room, it seemed that everything was the same as she had left it last time she was here. Her bed was still neatly made, her favourite teddy Crumbles nestled cosily between her two pillows. Her paper bin was still overflowing with scrapped story ideas for a book. Ruby aspired to be an author. She bent down and reached under her bed. Carved into the floor was a little box, and inside… the necklace! Safe!

Intrigued , Luca bent down as well and pulled out the necklace. The three stones dwarfed the shells and Luca noticed that all three stones had cracks in them. But before he could examine them further, the necklace fell out of Luca’s hand. The stones hit the floor and snapped in two with an almighty CRRACKCCK! Three pieces of paper fluttered out of the broken stones and onto the floor. Ruby picked them up and skimmed through what they said.                                                                                                         ” New power source, named ‘promefler’, possibly hazardous, could make highly deadly weapons.”            “So that’s what they want, your father’s knowledge on this ‘promefler’ stuff,” Luca was amazed “If he did have such a powerful resource, someone would go after it. It’s probably worth a fortune”

“So this is why everything has been happening lately,” Ruby announced wearily.

“Exactly,” called a familiar, but harsh, voice from the hallway. Ruby and Luca hastily twirled around and Ruby quickly recognised Professor Goldfinch, her father’s closest friend. He rubbed his hands together and smiled; it was a crooked smile, one that echoed evil. “It was only a matter of time until you led me to the information, so I waited to snatch the right moment-now! Ill be taking those papers, thank you very much,” He finished his sentence the plucked the trio of notes from Ruby’s hands.

10 minutes later, they were shoved and locked in the dark coal shed behind the manor. The only clear way of getting out was through a tiny hole in the wall, but only a rat could fit through that.                           ” That hideous back-stabber,” Ruby muttered, ” He betrayed my father, my Papa!”

” I give up, chances of escape are slim,” a discouraged Luca stated. he attempted to get comfy on the rough coal, but it was fruitless.

” We will, I’ll make sure of it!” Ruby spat. She would not be outsmarted by a dim-witted thief.” We’ll escape and get the papers.”

” Break a leg,” Luca hissed, though only under his breath. He looked around the deep, black shed and instantly felt despair.

On The Hunt

Chapter 2- On The Hunt

Inside the train, the seats were slightly ripped on the sides of the poorly painted rails. Anxiously, Jake stared out of the foggy windows but there didn’t seem to be any life outside. Outside, snow melted into slippery ice that overwhelmed the tracks ahead. Jake stepped up from his seat as the doors of the train clicked. The doors burst open, letting the cold, icy atmosphere enter the summer-breezed train. Dovesdale felt wintry and unwelcoming. This wasn’t like before.

Jake and Tilly bounded towards Dovesdale Premier Hotel. Doverrie flew above them, seeking any obvious clues. Inside the hotel, Jake was surprised to see that nothing had changed since he left. The wooden bookshelves were still lined up perfectly against each other. Fragments of dust roamed around the room, like tiny clouds roaming the sky in the daytime. With a sigh of relief, he could still spot the book. It was still safe!

Curious, Tilly grabbed the book off of the shelf and opened it cautiously. Inside, there was something that they had never expected to find. It was a tiny map, drawn in Jake’s mother’s unique style. It looked like a prototype of a new sort of airship, powered by temperature. Amused, Tilly exclaimed, “Wow, is this what they have been after? If your mom had designed an airship that is powered by temperature, it would be worth a fortune! No wonder she had so many enemies.”

“So, that’s what all this chaos is about? A drawing for something pointless?” hissed Jake, peering over Tilly’s shoulder to see the prototype.

“Precisely so,” came a distinct voice from the doorway. He stepped inside, revealing himself from the darkness outside. Jake instantly recognized who it was. It was his mother’s old friend! Hamilton Robert to be exact. He let his hand stroke through his white, icy hair. He smiled, but it wasn’t a nice smile. It lacked happiness. “I’ve been waiting for this moment. I knew that she hid it away from me. Now, I will be taking that, if you don’t mind.” Hamilton exaggerated, snatching the prototype from Tilly.

A few minutes later, the children were stuck outside in the hotel’s dark alley. There was a slender window leading to the staffroom, but it was too small to wiggle through. The backdoor was firmly locked. “That snake!” whispered Jake cautiously. “He double-crossed my mother!”

“We’ll never get out of here!” muttered Tilly. She sat down on a garbage bag, trying to wipe away the dust from her hands.

“Oh, yes we will,” reported Jake, determined not to be outwitted by an old man. “We will escape from this and get back that prototype in memory of my mother!”

“Good luck doing that.” mumbled Tilly, so quietly that Jake couldn’t understand a word that she was saying. Staring at the cobbled wall, she could only sense a feeling of dread.

Enigma Necklace

Prologue

Alexis gazed out of the window and saw the giant, beastly airship ebbing closer. The ship’s engine roared like a lion, prepared to fight for dominance. He saw harpoons being shot through the air , like sword through skin. Alexis smelled smoke being produced from the sprouting fire clinging to the hull, lethal like snake venom. Pivoting towards his master, Alexis howled: a howl that pierced the sky like a bullet through a skull, “By all the ticking tock Peter, jump! They’re already here! Human lives first, not mechanimal’s!”

Chapter 1

Pushing the gates to the playground of Dana Doublegoody’s Academy for Talented Girls open, Ruby Stanford surveyed the area. Freedom was metres away. No one appeared to be here, but before she even thought to run, her feet were pounding across the playground at full pelt. She came to a halt on Crawforn Crescent to regain her lost breath. The girl leant back into a bush.

She withdrew the piece of paper from her pocket and skimmed through the gloom-bringing news once again. Papa, her father Peter, was presumed dead after his airship, Nymph, was discovered crashed. She kept lingering on 1 sentence. It was her father’s last recorded words, “Watch your neck.” When the letter first arrived, Ruby pondered what it meant. Her father had always been cryptic and mysterious, but this practically gibberish to her. Every day when she was at the academy, she thought about what this could mean. It troubled her.

Waking her up from her thoughts, a particular and distinctive howl reverberated in her head. Then, out of a hedge, came a grey, fluffy face that radiated warmth. Alexis!                                                                          “Well, little missy, you took your tocking time getting out of this place. My clockwork key’s round my neck, give me a wind would you? I used all my energy escaping those scoundrels.”                                          Ruby grabbed the key form Alexis’s neck and wound it. Alexis wagged his tail in joy. Some of his mane of fur was burnt or cut, but he was in an otherwise fine shape.

Later that evening, Luca was shocked to see Ruby and Alexis walking down the patch to Tweedy’s Horologists.                                                                                                                                                                        “So, it’s your necklace, your mother’s one,” he said.                                                                                                  Ruby confirmed with a sad nod. The necklace was a precious item, a treasure. It was something that her mother once cherished. Every night, she would hold it close to her before taking it off to go to sleep. Sometimes, she would play with the shells and stones that populated the necklace. She didn’t have it now, it was at the manor hidden in a box very well. She remembered the engravings on the three stones. The engravings were of Ruby’s, her mother’s and her father’s initials.                                                                 “Sorry,” Luca stated.

“He’s right,” announced Alexis, “We have to get back to Steelpass Manor quickly, before those scallywags can take the necklace and leave.”

The escape plan

Prologue

Doverrie glared out of the glass as the darkness grew out of the sky. She saw tiny parts of black rain down like snow on Christmas dawn. She heard the whisper of gasps from outside, like a runner after a long marathon. She sensed the bitter smoke from the engine as the darkness crept closer to the ship, like a black blanket covering a snow-like bed.

Glancing to her owner, Doverrie chirped “By all means Jack, it is time for you to jump! It’s humans before birds for love’s sake.”

Chapter 1- The escape plan

Carefully leaning against the back gate of Harvard Highschool, Jake Rivera examined the playground. Nobody seemed to be around and within seconds, Jake started sprinting towards Cheleston street and freedom. At the end of the street, Jake paused to a halt and reached onto an iron gate to regain his breath.

He opened up the package once more to read through the horrible news. His uncle, Alan Cartman, had his airship crash into an avalanche. It was very abnormal because his last words had been, “Spend your time wisely.” He had spent many nights trying to think about how he could fulfill this throughout life.

At that moment, he heard a quiet chirp and a snow-white tail come from the bushes. “My goodness Jack, you took your sweet time getting out didn’t you?” exhaled Doverrie.

“Give me a break Doverrie! I used up a lot of my time for you.” justified Jack, as he grabbed his bag back from the icy path ahead of them. “You ready to go now?”

That afternoon, Tilly was surprised to see Jake and Doverrie standing in front of McTackleman’s cafe. “Did the snowglobe get auctioned off Jake?” questioned Doverrie. Jake devastatingly nodded his head. The snowglobe was a special item that was gifted to Jack by his mother. He had held it in his hands every Christmas night to remind him of his mother. Though, sometimes it didn’t work due to him being as still as a beetle. On the edges of the snowglobe, they had been hand-painted by the owner of McTackleman’s cafe. It made a shatter of tears in Jack’s eyes. “Sorry,” muttered Tilly, looking up at Jack.

“Let’s not get carried away now children!” chirped Doverrie. “We need to take the train back to Dovesdale and begin the escapade before some gritty foxes decide to claim it as their own.”

Prologue and first chapter.

Rocky peered out of the dragonfly’s window as the golden airplane drew closer. He saw the ship’s trident twinkle in the sunshine like glossy diamonds. He heard the rumble of the cannons like a dinosaur’s breath. He sensed the fire coming closer and closer towards him. Turning to his master, Rocky purred, “it is time for you to jump! Humans before mechanicals!”

“ding ,ding” the school bell rang as Rosie ran as fast as a cheetah through the corridors of the Sacred Heart Academy. The lesson began and Rosie was right on time as usual. 3 hours later, the first lesson was finished! “class dismissed!” shouted Mrs Wolf as the whole 37 children ran out of the classroom. Rosie gazed across the playground but no one was there. She searched through all the corridors at the school but there was not a soul there. She knew it was the best time to get out of the torture. So she ran as fast as her legs could carry her. At the end of the road she paused and leaned against a wall to recover her breath.

She once again read the terrible letter. Her father, Kevin Sanford, was missing and his airplane destroyed. Rosie was devastated after she found out all about this. His last words to her were “I LOVE YOU”. Many days and nights she laid wide awake in her comfy bed and was thinking about him.

Just then, Rosie heard an identifying wuff and a well-known face appearing from some flowers behind her, “by all the ticks, you’ve taken a very long time to get out of that place!” said Rocky, “oh c’mon give me a wind-up will you? I have used up a lot of energy getting out of there. It is miles away. Why didn’t we meet somewhere that was closer huh?”
