I’ve never….

I’ve never captured a Brazilian Wandering spider,

but I have caught minnows at Santon Downham.

I’ve never visited the Eiffel Tower,

but I have seen the London Eye on a field trip.

I’ve never eaten a red banana,

but I have consumed a slice of watermelon.

I’ve never cultivated a Giant Water Lily,

but I have grown tomatoes many times before.

I’ve never observed prehistoric dinosaurs,

but I have viewed Moon and Sunny the tortoise.

I’ve never ascended to Mount Everest,

but I have climbed a blossoming plum tree in Brandon.

I’ve never baked a cake for the Queen,

but I have cooked delicious, golden omelettes.

I’ve never flown to Mars,

but I have biked to High Lodge.

I’ve never hitched a ride on a polar bear in the Antarctic,

but I have ridden a horse before.

Question poem

What are….

What are frail? A squabs grey feathers,a stained glass window and a tiny twig laying on the forest floor.

What are tough? An alligator’s tooth, an ancient temple standing high above the jungle and an armadillo’s shell.

What are hot? The burning rage trapped inside everyone, boiling geysers spewing scalding water and jalapenos from Mexico.

What are cold? Ice pops melting on a hot Summer day, a narrow ice cave and a magnosteen from Indonesia.

What are sweet? The aroma of flowering orchids, the taste of scarlet strawberries and dragon beard candy from China.

What are sour? The feeling of deep regret, a tamarind fruit from Africa and Toxic Waste daring teenagers to try it.

What are wet? Frogs emerging from a swamp, leaves dripping with water after a rainy day and rapids splashing and crashing on rocks.

What are dry? Lizards scurrying across the desert floor, walnuts ready to be picked and coal wedged in the side of mines.

The Desert Unicorn

The Desert Unicorn

Throughout the world there are a numerous amount of biomes that contain

many unique breeds of unicorn. In this text we will be discussing

the Desert Unicorn.

Habitats

To maintain their body temperature these unicorns have adapted to the shrublands of Mexico. The Desert Unicorns main body temperature fits the shrublands at 38 degrees celsius, though the Desert Unicorns maximum temperature is 55 degrees celsius. The shrublands also have the ideal vegetation for their diet including ferns, heather and cacti. Unfortunately, in winter the shrublands temperature descends to -1 degrees celsius, this causes the Desert Unicorn to search for hot springs because if not, they will slowly turn into sand.

Appearance

The Desert Unicorn has a shamrock green tail with spikes protruding off the end of it’s tail. Many people believe that this is used as a defence method though it’s actually used as a camouflage method. This unicorn has a beige mane that holds an immense amount of sand, the hooves of this creature are quite sturdy due to the material they are made of which is sandstone. The colour of its main body is a light terracotta, this is useful because it is also used as a camouflage method to make it seem like a regular cactus. Amazingly, the Desert Unicorn’s eyes glow like the sun itself and reach up to 500 degrees celsius. Curiously, the horn of the Desert Unicorn is made of zinc, which is essential for life due to its different properties.

Behaviour

Desert Unicorns aren’t particularly aggressive though when threatened they will ready their hooves to calcitrate the attacker, this species of unicorn are always in search of cacti due to the amount of water they hold. The Desert Unicorn will avoid from being pricked by the cactus by plucking off the spikes with it’s robust teeth then spitting out the spikes. If you disturb them grazing the unicorn will flee from the area.

It has been since 1979 since one was sighted. Many now believe that they have all died out because of recent climate change and urban grounds appearing more commonly.Maybe there are still Desert Unicorns thriving not just in the shrublands of Mexico but as well as African plains and the Outback in Australia.

Chapter 1-The Leaving

Finally, they were ready to leave.

At noon when everyone was having lunch at the grand warren lunchen a great ***

had been sent by Ore the messenger of Sapburrow. The scroll attached to the bird’s leg

had been a warning that the Gorm were planning to attack. No one was safe. Many, many

winters ago Sapburrow’s defence was applied by hammering chunks of pure amber into the walls of the warren but over the times it become fragile and cracked, way too dry to act as a fortress. For the ambush of rusty, metal giants would easily impale the burrow with their jagged metal spikes.

Papkun,Pary and Peso ,who are the children of chief Lopear, would venture to

Pine Warren.First they would have to go Bonesnap Warren to buy each of them a permrost

fruit from Coldheart mountain to pass the Sunray Desert then trudge through the Marshlands not disturbing the humongous lizard guarding it’s territory, finally you will reach Pine Warren where River Dace will be blocking the path of the Gorm.

Even the fearsome Gorm wouldn’t touch water because if they do they would sink to the bottom and rust, not at all able to move. When the Gorm are underwater and rusted their evil plague won’t spread. In the Marshlands every step they take they will rust more and more until they can’t move.Their mother gave them an old map showing the whole of the kingdom and told them to run.

The little rabbits set off on their quest to Pine Warren. As they were following the map to Bonesnap Warren in Gorseroot a splotch of ink appeared on the piece of paper and shaped into a wolf.“Thats strange.” said Pary. Peso started crying. As Pary was trying to calm Peso Papkun heard a menacing growl. ”Hello?” questioned Papkun. Suddenly, a wolf lunged out of the bushes. ”Run!” shouted Papkun. They ran and ran until they found a gorse bush to hide in,the wolf nashed at the bush but eventually it stopped because of all the spikes protruding out of its fur. Then they realised they were officially in Gorseroot.

It was getting dark and they needed shelter,it was way too late to navigate around all the gorse to the enormous market so they would have to make shelter.Afraid of what terrible creatures may be lurking out there they started straight away.Pary sat Peso down in a little hole she dug and told him to stay there.”Sooop…..” Peso whined.

”Not now!” Pary stated frustrated from scooping out the dirt just to see more dug up by Papkun. Finally, when they had finished the tiny, little burrow Pary collected some twigs and leaves to camouflage. She scooped up Peso ignoring his squeals of protest then crawled into their miniature warren and tried to fall asleep wondering what tomorrow will be like. They couldn’t sleep a wink, the hunger stalked them, they needed food and only managed to take a couple of slices of cornbread and a swede.Papkun knew what he had to do.He didn’t want to

waste their rations,no matter how hungry he was he was going to go foraging.

”I’m going out.”said Papkun.”But what about wolves,weasels…or even bears?”Pary begged.

“Oh please don’t go.”

“Don’t worry it’ll be fine.”explained Papkun.”Besides, this map tells us if there’s any danger.”

The map had no creature on it (except for the decorations).”See.”said Papkun.”Oh fine….you can go.”Pary signed. The little rabbit leapt out of the miniature warren and was on his way to look for food. When Papkun returned he had scavenged two truffles and thirteen blackberries. The all had some of the mushrooms and nibbled a slice of cornbread.Papkun,Pary and Peso all bundled up as their eyes slowly closed and finally fell asleep.

Papkun’s mind was a cyclone of nightmares. The booming clank of the jagged, metal Gorm, images of his poor mother being enslaved working day and night, wolves circling them

each one of them wondering who the pack will strike first. He woke up in a cold sweat, paralized by the images he saw.Would they ever reach Pine Warren? Would they even reach Bonesnap Warren? Doubt had taken over his mind. How could they survive the mighty Gorm? ”Papkun.”

Would they even survive the night?

“Papkun!”yelled Pary.

”Huh?”

“You alright?”questioned Pary.”Yeah I’m fine,just a nightmare.”

Chapter 2

They woke up with a start, except for Papkun who was half asleep.”Papkun.” Pary whispered, “There’s something out there.”

A shadow approached their burrow. Pary hid her face as it approached. Suddenly,                    the shape hopped over to them. It was Ore’s Great ***

”Hahaha!” Papkun laughed. ”You…you were scared of that little thing.”

“Hahaha!”

“Wait. Look.” said Pary pointing to its troubled face. “I think it wants to show us something.” Though Papkun was too busy laughing to notice. She sighed and followed the bird out into the open, the sun blinded her eyes. There was nothing, she grabbed the map and as soon as she touched it, an X appeared and an image of the Gorm. They were close.

Papkun, Pary and Peso walked along the path following the map, avoiding gorse. The Great *** was following them, ensuring safety, even though they had a magical map. Every now and then it stopped to chat to some Willow warblers then realised it was behind and flew on.

Half an hour later, they arrived at Bonesnap Warren, though there were no big heavy doors, just a couple of scattered hills.”Hmm….that’s strange the map says it’s right here?”

The rabbits looked around and saw: a crippled old tree, a stonechat pecking on some blackberries and a patch of black mondo grass. They walked around looking for an entrance when all of a sudden they got hit by a wave of exotic smells, fruit and nuts, cheese and brews and may other scents.

Pap kun felt a hard square in the ground, he knelt down and knocked on i*** was hollow.  All of a sudden, a fuzzy white rabbit popped out.

“What do you want?” asked the rabbit.

“We’re here for three permrost fruits,”replied Papkun.

“Go along now you don’t have the cash.” said the rabbit, now annoyed.

“Oh yeah, is this enough?” He threw the rabbit a sack full of silver. Before they left their mother had given them money for the permrost fruit and not to waste it.

“Oh ur….sure but you’re way too young to go down there because of the thieves you know.” The rabbit leapt down there to fetch the fruit. They waited a couple of minutes and there was no sign of him returning. “We’ve been scammed.” Pary sighed. As she said that the guard popped up looking at them in relief.

“Phew….your still there.”he puffed and handed them the fruit.

“Thanks.” Pary said and left. The rabbits safely made their way out of Gorseroot and slowly  made their way to the Sunray Desert. All of them gazed out at the never ending sand. Although something wasn’t right, there was a metallic looking figure in the distance. Papkun’s first thought was Gorm but when it came closer it was way bigger than the Gorm, there were rusted plates sticking on the thing. One was missing revealing a bunch of iron cogs turning the mechanical marvel letting it patrol the deser*** weirdly looked like a giant beetle the size of Amber Mines.“Walk slowly.” whispered Papkun. Though as they walked as quietly as they could the machine glared at them. They had been spotted….
