Chapter 3 – When the storm falls – Ava-Jay SWW

The summer holidays were going as fast as a formula one car. Tom spent half of his time gazing out the window at the scenery. He was still day dreaming about Spark. The countryside is so much quieter than the city. Animals grazing the field, tractors driving about and barely any cars pass by. Tom wondered why his home town couldn’t be like this? He loved it here. Maybe he could visit with his here with his mum when he goes back to her. If she’s still there.

Tom grabbed his coat and ran outside. He needed to go to Spark’s shelter to see if he was ok. Tom really worries about Spark. Arriving, Tom gave Spark an apple (his favourite food) and sat down on a log. “Hey, Spark, I know I’ve only met you for 2 days, but I feel like we can be best buddies, what do you think?” Tom spoke. Spark gave a “purr” and he rested is head on Tom. They went out of the shelter and led on the floor. Looking up at the stars, the moonlight shone at the sky making it light the world.

Why Tom was worried about spark, was that someone might hurt him. He had loads of thoughts going in his head about what if someone is face to face with Spark right now. That’s why Tom goes and see him everyday to make sure he has company and to make sure he’s ok. Tom also said to spark that if anyone is threatening him, make a growling sound.

But the only bad thing was, it had happened. One night, Tom was going to see Spark. He was walking like he usually does until he heard a faint noise in the forest. Was that Spark? Running like the wind, Tom sprinted to Sparks shelter. “Spark! Call again if your in danger!” “Raaa!” shouted Spark. Tom knew that a human was threatening him. Finally arriving at Sparks shelter, there was a man in full on black clothes. He looked more suspicious than the German Soldiers.

“HEY! What are you doing with MY bobcat!” shouted Tom, livid at the sight that he is seeing. “I am here to take him back to my house.” muttered a deep voice. “Absolutely NOT! He does NOT belong in a house!” Tom said aggravatedly. “He used to be my pet you know.” muttered the voice again. Tom was stunned. Half of him believed the man and half of him didn’t. “How can I trust you?” Tom said. “Everyone trusts me. Everyone knows me.” ” Well I do NOT trust YOU right now!” Tom shouted. Spark whined. Tom knows he doesn’t like loud noises. Tom moved closer to Spark to comfort him. “Hey don’t go near my pet.” said the man. “He isn’t your pet! My carer found him LOST in the forest WITHOUT his mum!”

Miss Paige had arrived. She knew that something was wrong because Tom had been gone for a while. “Hey! What are you doing with Spark!” exclaimed Miss Paige. Tom told her the story. “Well, Tom, we have to think of our choices.” “Yep, we will.”

Chapter 4 – Ava-Jay SWW

The next day, the sky fell. Rain poured down and saturated everyone. Not a single car was driving on the road only a couple of pedestrians walking along with there coats soaked through like a sponge. Dogs rejected to take a paw outside and everyone was bringing in their washing. Lightning stroke and thunder rumbled. Tom ran inside and went up to his room. If it’s one thing he hates, it’s thunder. The thought of it makes him feel sick!

While Tom was sitting out from the thunder, he thought of Spark. What could he do to save him from that mysterious man? Tom didn’t really believe the man when he said that he was the previous owner, but you never know. He could be or he could not. It’s a 50 – 50 chance. He needs to think fast because the man could do something with Spark any minute.

When the thunder had calmed down, he went to find Mrs Paige. “Hey Paige, do you know what we can do about Spark? I feel like it’s all my fault as if I didn’t know about it, then none of this would of happened.” “Hey, Tom, I know you feel bad about Spark but it’s seriously not your fault. This would of happened if you knew or didn’t know.” Tom sat down next to Mrs Paige. “Hey, your like my little child Tom. I will do anything for you. I’m glad that your here when this has happened because I can’t find Spark on my own. You can be my lead investigator!” “Thank you Paige! I would love that! But how exactly will we find him?” “Honestly Tom, I don’t know. But with you and me working together, we can do this and bring Spark back.”

Tom ran over to his friends house to ask his carer if she had seen a man who is suspicious. “Hey Mrs Apple’s. Have you by any chance seen a man that is dressed up in black?” Tom speaks. “Actually, now your asking, I have. He lives around here and his name is Mr Lime. He lives just three houses down from me.” Says Mrs Apple’s. Tom then thanked Mrs Apple’s and he went on his way to that house. As he arrived, Tom thought that he didn’t need to talk to him, he needed to find out where he is keeping Spark. Which Tom instantly new because he thought that he would keep Spark in his van. Tom opened the van door and quickly ran with Spark to his house. What a relief! They were finally reunited.

A couple days later, Tom found out that Mr Lime was actually not the owner of Spark. Spark was a bob cat who had lost his parents after all.

This all happened 81 years ago. Spark died when Tom was going back home to his mum due to his health. But when I always look back to that story, I feel like Spark is still with me every step I take.

Chapter 1- The beginning by Ava-Jay

Tom has been nervous from the second he got there. He sat on his bed with his legs hugging his chest. His mind was going too fast for him. Maybe his new guardian was mean to children? Maybe she just didn’t want him? The room that she gave him used to be her Dad’s room. He was really ill and her mum had died just two years ago. But unfortunately, he passed away a week ago so when Tom first talked to her he tried to not mention it. Her name is Miss Paige. Tom decided to look out his window and think how his day ahead of him is going to be. His new school.

His first day of school was very fast, according to Tom. He liked his new teacher (Mr Brown) and he made a friend. Hank. Hank showed him around and made him feel at home. Tom thought that they had some sort of connection. He got a new pen and a blue book for his work. It wasn’t as nerve wracking and boring as he thought it was going to be. As the day ended for him, he asked Hank for his address and waved him goodbye. Mr Brown quickly ran over to Tom to tell him how well he did for his first day. As Tom walked home, he opened the bit of paper that Hank gave him and found out they live next door!

When Tom gets home, he tells Miss Paige all about his day. This was one of the first times he had ever spoke to her properly. To his surprise, she was nice and calming! He felt a bit less nervous by the minute. He went out to the garden and helped her plant some leeks, strawberries and runner beans. Then helped to pick some fruit and vegetables for salad tonight. They sat down on the couch and ate their tea. Tom offered to wash up the bowls but she suggested he got ready for bed. So he put on his pyjamas, brushed his teeth and snuggled into bed with his book and favourite teddy: Mr Ted. Miss Paige came up 15 minutes after and put Tom to bed.

Every night, Tom promised to himself that he would look out of his window and think of his father. He’s fighting in the war and Tom dreads the thought of coming back home and he is not there. Tom has noticed from the past two days that he has lived here is that Miss Paige is going out of the house to the forest. It’s strange because she takes a basket with something inside, a lantern and she wears black clothes. What was she doing? Tom sticks his eyes to the bright light and see’s where she goes. She has been going in the exact place every night.

Tom was exhausted from today but his brain sent him to put his coat on and go into the forest. As Tom went in, he didn’t know how to find her. Until he found Miss Paige’s footsteps imprinted into the mud. He followed the footsteps till he couldn’t see them no more. What was he going to do now? The footsteps had disappeared and he had no way back out.

But in the corner of his eye, he could see that Miss Paige was still running across the woods. He went through the brambles and the thorns, jumped over logs and weaved in and out of trees. Tom was out of breath but there was no turning back now.

She suddenly stopped onto the left and sat down on a log stump. He crept closer and closer until she noticed her. She was feeding this animal with the food she had in her basket. “Hey Tom, meet Spark,” she whispered, “she’s a bob cat and I found her in the woods lost without her mum. I didn’t want her left on her own so I’ve now took care of her for a month now.” Tom was shocked.

The Ship of Bitterness – Ava-Jay – SWW

Silence echoes through the cold, crispy night,
as the soulless skeletons lay
on the chilled, shivering deck.

Sails whip in the whispering wind;
making the crew anxious.
Waves rock the hull of the ship,
desperate to tip it over.

The captain’s blood trickles down his spine
as the children scream in terror,
so the whole world can hear.

Blood constantly drips down from the deck
like a never ending river,
covering a quarter of the ship.

Chapter 3: The foxamander

The next day we’re sat on my comfy bed in the Shake Hut. Outside, the wind howls and makes all the leaves scatter along the pavement as hails hammering on the windows. Inside, were sitting on my cosy bed drinking hot chocolate (which is my favourite drink) and getting warm by the heater. Of course Maddy starts to mention something about yesterday. “So,” she begins, “I’ve thought of what happened yesterday a bit more and I think I’ve made a plan.” I give out a huge sigh as she starts to draw something on a bit of paper. I think I’m ready for another one of her crazy ideas.

It turns out that Maddy has been roaming about in town and trying to find clues about the foxamander. With her own eyes, she claims she has seen pieces of fur by the edge of the sea and ink splatters on the railings. I can’t believe she’s gone out without me! But I’m not really sure whether I’d even want to do that. So while I’ve been sleeping, she’s been a sly.

I check all the windows are shut tight and then head out. I twist the key in the door as Maddy is already heading to where she found the clues. This time I remember to have my snug coat and my headlight. My feet pounded against the sandy pavement; Maddy was in front leading the way. My brunette hair whips against my face by the whistling wind. Maddy finally stops and beckons me. “Jaydon, is it just me or can you see this too?” yells Maddy. She turns and points to something.

I had completely no clue what it was but I was totally shocked on what I saw: chewed up meat and leaves; clear footprints; and slobber trails. “Um Maddy, I think w…w…we should go n…n…now!” I stammered. I tried to pull her back to my room but her eyes were fixed on something different.

The weather had calmed down a bit and Maddy had found a rocky cave. Even the waves crashes had stopped. There was silence. Complete silence. We decided to take a step into a cave and we seen something glow. Maddy wanted to go and have a look while I was behind. She whispered “It’s an egg!” I came to have a look and it was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen. It was an orange Ombre pattern and has glistening specks of white placed in it.

In that very moment, I felt guilty like I never have before. We were looking at something that belongs to the foxamander and if he catches us, then we’ll be in big trouble. “Maddy, I think we should leave now! We’ve investigated enough!” I exclaim. I try to tug her arm but she wants to stay for longer. I wanted to tell her that it’s not a very good idea but she kept on telling me to shush. Something scratches my arm and a drop of blood runs down my arm. I heard a quiet hiss and it came from behind me. What was it? There it was. The foxamander. Maddy steps forward. What was she thinking?

Chapter 2 – Ava-Jay – SWW

I stare at her, wondering why she’s not replying. I am a bit scared of her now, but I just say, “Hello? What have you seen?” Immediately, I hear waves being wild and free like a tornado so I’m a bit concerned about our town. A voice peeped out of her mouth. Finally! As I was patient, she said that she had just seen the
furious foxamander lurking in the sea. But, if she tells anyone, and I mean anyone, the whole town will go wild.

Five minutes later, we are outside in the cold winter wind. My new friend, who tells me her name is Maddy, tells me to follow her. Horrifically, a storm is forming as my hair whips my face. I have a bad feeling about this. Yes, I know you’re probably thinking that I should have stayed in my warm, cosy bed eating some of my favourite treats and then sleeping but this could be serious, according to Maddy. The sand on the beach is nearly frozen and lightening is striking as soon as we travel nearer the sea. Now I seriously wish I was in my little room. As I turn to Maddy, the sea starts to rumble.

We make our way across town. Sunny-on-Sea isn’t looking its neatest: the ice-cream parlour is looking dark and dull; Bills bucket and spade shop has sealed their shutters tight; the pier is looking like it’s never been opened; and Dylan’s donuts scent from the shop has flown away.

When we walk back onto the pavement, we spot something that belongs to the foxamander: glistening footprints were imprinted in the frozen sand; a long trail of ink and blood; and loose bits of fur burring themselves in between the sand. Why was this happening? I grasped Maddy’s hand and we walked further on. Then we saw a figure.

Needing safety, we dash to the arcade and slip through the door where we can process what’s happening. We need to catch our breaths back. We’re both drenched and shivering like crazy. The wind is that insane that some of the windows are slamming open and close. Wait, did we actually see something or is it just our heads? But it can’t be as Maddy saw it too. Something was really there and we have to do something about it otherwise our town will be ruined, forever.

Me and Maddy look at each other. She said to me that she wants to go have a look because she has the confidence to do it. But I just want to stay in the arcade. A loud roar came from the beach. An ink body and blood hands has made an appearance. Maddy rushes back to me as we watch a creature rage about in the ocean. Petrified, we saw it getting closer and closer.

Outside, thunder and lightning strikes to get that cold winter feeling. Inside, the arcade has been illuminated by the stormy weather. Arcade machines are full of darkness and the moon shines through the door. The foxamander, who’s got sharp greedy teeth, smashed the windows of Dylan’s Donuts and the pier. Abruptly, it freezes and storms of back into the ocean. A big sigh of relief came rushing into us as we watch it jump into the ocean.

Days of the week, by Ava-Jay, SWW

On Monday, I saw morning frost stealing
my whole garden as the scorching sun
melts it.

On Tuesday, I found a dog
rummaging there noses into the wotsit crisp
packet and the sound got louder and louder.

On Wednesday, I heard silence,
except for the birds chirping in bushes,
hardly knowing they were there.

On Thursday, I touched the frost covered all
over the car as the air-conditioner started to
make it melt.

On Friday, I tasted the toffee in my mouth,
not letting me to talk.

On Saturday, I dream of a river, that had
never ever stopped flowing, and a rainbow that
someone had found the end.

On Sunday, I walked in a forest that has people
having a good time and dogs doing “doggy paddle”
in the lake.

Chapter 4 – Happily ever after

Maddy dreamed. A soft quiet voice was playing in her head. It was her mum. They were down at there favourite beach eating ice cream and having a great time. But her brain made it look like a blurred picture. She wish she spent more time with her mum because she was always at work and never got to see Maddy. 3 years have now passed since she’s died and Maddy still feels lost without her. Maddy heard a voice calling her but then that dream faded away in her eyes.

Maddy woke with a start. Sunlight filled every single corner of her room. Aiden was still asleep but on the other hand, Thai was getting ready for the find. Then he was barley moving but Maddy new what was wrong. She gave his wind up a big twist and he was alright. “Oh! Look at the time we better be of in a minute to find that bracelet of yours!” Thai exclaimed. He was right, they needed to go.

“Hey! You woke me up from an amazing dream!” But they couldn’t wait for much longer. They set off to find the bracelet but there was an obstacle in front of them: icicles smashed to the ground so they had to be careful. “Hey how will we know where he’s put it?” said Aiden. “He’s taken it to the lab! He puts everything in there so just follow me and I’ll take you there.” said Maddy. They all went to the lab but Mr Dagger was not in sight. “Hey the door to the lab is open!” said Thai.

Maddy slowly creeped inside to make sure he wasn’t in there. Then she called the boys to come in. “Look! There’s the bracelet! Now lets get out of here!” said Aiden. They all ran out and the bracelet was safe in there hands.

A moment later, Mr Dagger came out and spotted the children.
“Well well well, look who’s stealing something that was in my lab that is now mine!” sneered Mr Dagger. Maddy had to think of something to do and fast. She nudged the boys and whispered to get out of here with the bracelet. Aiden ran out but Thai couldn’t leave Maddy on her own so he hid behind a bush.
“So why did you steal my bracelet then Mr Dagger and was you involved in any of my mothers death?” said Maddy, standing up for her self.
“So your accusing me for your mothers death now are you?” shouted Mr Dagger, fuming on what was happening.
Maddy had to run now otherwise something bad was going to happen. She started running but Mr Dagger was following up right behind her. Suddenly, Thai came out of the bushes and pushed Mr Dagger out of the way.

Immediately, Aiden ran to the airship and prepared it for take of. Maddy and Thai ran to the airship with Aiden and they flew high up to the sky. Mr Dagger was shaking his fist at them and saying something, but they couldn’t hear him as they were so high up.

There was a voice coming from below, but they couldn’t hear it that well. They went below and they found Audrey Becket all tied up! Maddy rubbed her eyes. It was really her mother? She wanted her to speak again but she didn’t want to ask. “Hey Maddy, come here and hug me will you?” said Audrey. Maddy went in for a hug and untied her. Audrey went to control the airship and tried to get as far away from that villain as possible. “I’m just going to get further away from Mr Dagger then we can stop and talk.” said Audrey. The airship stopped and it was just so peaceful.

Maddy and Aiden were standing next to each other, looking at her mother that they’ve just found. A snowflake landed on Maddy’s nose and it just faded away. All the houses had Christmas lights up and it was just all festive. At least Maddy was back with her mother for Christmas. Thai found a cosy spot to sleep and curled up into a ball.

Chapter 3 – The escape

All afternoon, Maddy tried to think of ways to get them out. On the other hand, Aiden didn’t care about escaping. Maddy spent some of her time sitting down and huffing but then she remembered that she needs to stay strong and she tried again. “Maybe shouting for help will work?” Maddy thought. “Maybe just giving up and sitting down will work.” moaned Aiden. Maddy was annoyed with Aiden being negative but she just had to keep going. No one heard them for quite a while so she had to think of other ways and fast.

Aiden moaned again. “Oh Aiden would you please stop doing that! You haven’t even tried!” snapped Maddy. She needed to let her anger out as she was getting pretty annoyed at him. Worrying, Maddy though that maybe they would be there forever but then she thought that Aiden was making her negative too. Surprisingly, Maddy found a piece of paper that had a code on it. Maybe it was a safe combination! “Aiden look! I’ve found a code!” Maddy exclaimed. She was so excited that she’d at least found something useful. Maddy rushed around the big room wondering where they could be hiding it. “Well come on Aiden be useful and help me find it!” said Maddy.
“It’s no use Maddy we’re never getting out of here we should just give up!” said Aiden. But Maddy wasn’t going to give up. She needed to find that safe!

Maddy and Aiden were silent for ages. The room felt hollow like no one was in there. Inside, shadows creeped up the walls and cobwebs covered the corners. It was getting pretty dark. Soon it would be past Maddy’s bedtime. Outside, trees swayed and stars shone in the sky.

Maddy heard something coming from the distant shadows. It was definitely a person. It yapped “Needs a wind up now!” Maddy knew exactly who it was. “Aiden come here now!” shouted Maddy. They took a step closer and it was exactly the same person Maddy thought it was.

“Please Maddy wind my back!” yapped Thai. She wound the key and Thai sounded like his normal self again. Now they’ve finally got hope for them to escape. “I think you’ve been looking for this.” said Thai. It was the safe! All they had to do now was put the code in and then they had the key to unlock the door. It would take some energy but anything to get them out. They put in the code and there it was; the key. They fit it through the hole and twisted it. It finally opened! Now they just had to run away to a safe place.

“Now we need to run!” exclaimed Maddy. Aiden and Maddy climbed down the ladder but Thai was still up in the attic. “Are you coming?” said Aiden.
“You two run away and I’ll come in a minute!” shouted Thai. They ran down hallways and opened doors and they finally made it to the exit. They could finally be free! They hid behind a bush but they both wondered where Mr Dagger was and what was he doing now?

Chapter 2

Maddy stepped foot into the garden of Trainor Manor. She remembered it being nice and all, but it seems that things change in a certain amount of time. Maddy and Aiden were shocked at the scene. Whispering wind was surrounding them and they heard a howl. This was creepy but they had to keep tough to get the bracelet before someone else layed there fingers on it. They were about to open the door but it opened by itself. Now the adventure could begin. Inside, the shadows creeped into every single corner of empty rooms as echoes were following them. They needed to stay calm.

They found the room that Maddy remembered where her mum kept the bracelet. She needed to find it and take it before somebody else could. The exact spot she looked in was her mums bedside table draw, and there was a red glittery box that she kept the bracelet in. “Yes,” Maddy exclaimed. “I’ve found it! Now I’ll show you how special and precious it is to me and my mum.
“Ok but we better be quick before someone comes and snatches it of us!”Aiden said, worried that we won’t have enough time to talk. Maddy looked at Aiden. “Don’t you worry I’ll talk super quick so we can get out of here!”

“It’s so special because you need to find the right charm on the bracelet to power whoever found it to be able to see people who are dead come back to life but it can only last for a day and there’s only one more power in the special charm so we need to keep it safe!” Maddy explained. She got emotional because then she remembered the time when her mother had done it and she got hurt from it. When this happened, Maddy felt like she was going to die, but the doctors treated her. But then a few days later, her mum unexpectedly died in the airship crash. “Don’t get emotional Maddy, it’s not worth it. How about we just get out now so no one sees us?” said Aiden. All of a sudden, a door creaked open. Was somebody following them?

“Hello.” Came a voice from behind them. It was one of mums old friends, Mr Dagger. What did he want from us? I looked at Aiden and I exactly new what he wanted to take from us. My Mums bracelet that he had seen all his life. “Hey what do you want?” Shouted Maddy. Mr Dagger went right up to my face and took the bracelet. He ran of and grinned.

A few moments later, they were locked up inside a closet. What were they going to do? Maddy tried to stay positive. “Hey have you thought of a way to get us out?” Maddy whispered. “No, and there’s no point anyway we’re never going to get out.” Moaned Aiden. Maddy wasn’t going to give up though. She needed to find a way to get out of here and fast. She was ready and prepared for anything.
