Chapter 2 – A warning disobeyed
“My name is Mr Gold,” he said, staring at Poppy until she started walking backwards uncomfortably. “I’m the owner of this shop! Do you like it?” Poppy wasn’t sure what to say, so she just nodded her head hoping he would let her move on and keep walking. Mr Gold was telling Poppy about the shop, and she wasn’t really listening, but one thing that he said that really caught her attention. She just heard him at the end, saying “Just don’t touch the book of wonders.”
A moment later, Mr Gold was completely gone with a puff of smoke and Poppy was all alone. Originally she was thinking she would just keep looking around the shop, but she couldn’t stop thinking about the book. She was tempted to open it, but she was afraid of what the consequences could be. She peeked around the corner just to see an empty, plain, corridor with hundreds of doors going across the wall, and she wondered where each one would lead her.
Once she turned back, she opened the book. Each page had different pictures and notes, almost like every page was a different world. Some pages were all notes, and some were all pictures, but most were a mix of both. Some were towns, cities, villages, and some forests. They were all unique and magical, something you would never see in town, like diamond forests, and chocolate mountains. All of them beyond imagining.
The next thing she knew, Poppy had a pen in her hand and she was ready to draw and write about her ideas. She decided to draw her dream location, which was a snowy forest with a cabin type cottage near the back, with a path leading to it with all the trees. With the outline of what she loved and longed for most inside the window.
“Come here!” said the frog that was owned by Mr Gold. “You can talk?!” “Well yes..” the frog said, leading Poppy the way. Poppy tried to move on from the fact that she just heard frog talk, so she started following him. They were down the corridor together, the same one Poppy was just confused about. The frog started leaping on and off the door, so Poppy knew what to do, and so she opened it, hoping it was what the frog meant for her to do.
As she walked in, she was really confused and it took her a second to realize where she was, until she noticed it was exactly the same to what she drew in the book. It was identical to her drawing except with color. She ran straight down to the building she drew, and she was amazed with what she saw.
