Chapter II
Miss Natalie looked at me over her shoulder slyly, she stood there and did nothing. A few minutes later, the jaguar came back running as fast as it could and landed right in front of me.It’s soft, furry ears twitching at every sound I make. Its eyes as white as fluffy clouds, filling the blue sky with dread. The spots on its body leap out at you as if it was possessing your soul and its lengthy whiskers as sharp as the tip of a spear.
It circled around me as if it was ready to pounce any second now. I was full of excitement and fear at the same time, what would it do to me? It sniffed me as if it was checking if I was good or bad. It snuzzled me and made me feel so safe as if I was back home in my bedroom, warm and comfortable. Miss Natalie looked surprised, her face was full of shock. I thought she would shout at me but instead she told me to be careful because she was going to have a baby in a few days. Now, I was excited.
After that, the jaguar ran off into the forest and Miss Natalie looked like she had a lot to say.
“I have to tell you why I kept her in a cage.” sighed Miss Natalie, “Let me tell you from the start.”
“A little while ago, I found her hiding behind a bush. She looked sad so I took her but I put her in a cage since I didn’t know if she was dangerous or not.” exclaimed Miss Natalie, “She was a bit aggressive and at that time I didn’t know she was carrying a baby. I kept her a secret because not only is she carrying a baby but she’s the last species of the jaguars. I did all I could and gave her food in the morning, afternoon and night. She felt better and was more energetic after I gave her food.”
I was so pale that I didn’t know what to say. I looked back and forth at Miss Natalie and the forest as if it was the first time I saw her. The wind howled in the twilight sky, the stars could be seen clearly and there wasn’t a single cloud to be seen. The moon shone bright like a diamond and it was a great night to have a cup of tea.
As I went to sleep, a sensational dream occurred. It was about the jaguar when she landed right in front of me, it sniffed me as if I was back at home. What is this feeling? I felt as if the jaguar was speaking to me, its soft, furry ears twitching, its fur as soft as a feather.
Every morning, afternoon and night, I get as many scraps of food as I can and most of the time, Miss Natalie hears me go and tells me to be safe. I go to the middle of the forest to see the jaguar. Then, I fed it to her and once, she even let me stroke her soft fur. We’re bonding together slowly but surely, it’s nice to get to know her. Sometimes she hunts for food like rabbits, mice and sometimes baby deer. She shouldn’t have all this pressure on her. Sometimes, we look into each other’s eyes, her dreamy, starry and shiny eyes capturing every part of my soul and turning it into dust. Although I shouldn’t say this, this feels better than home. A part of me wants to stay here and look after her, and when she has her baby, look after them as well.
Miss Natalie has definitely seen our bond together, she trusts me on doing everything I can for the jaguar and her baby.
