Leyla Radley did not want to leave her country. She observed the depressing nature outside of her bedroom window, miles and miles of snow covered streets,she closed her eyes and tried not to punch through the glass window.Instead,she closed her eyes and tried to think of home to calm herself down.She missed  the  old street parties and her mother’s homemade potato chips. Leyla loved her  room because it  was oddly comforting with all her teddies ,dolls and clothes,although it was filled with cobwebs  it almost felt like home.She spent time in her room flicking through pictures of her mother and her old diary writes.She loved it at her other country, she would not even care if the sounds of bombs exploding hurt her ears she just wanted to be with her mother.Her guardian Miss Carson was very nice and made her favourite food every week. If Leyla got bored, she would play the old board games stacked in the corner of the room covered with cobwebs.

The first day of school was not so great. Leyla had 3 friends.The teacher was called Mr Mitch. She sat at the front of the class with her friends. .She hated school and always  would accept the chance  to leave.There was barely any space on the lunch table for her.Her teacher noticed that she was very clever and wanted to move her into a higher class. Leyla heard the news and instantly was in regret she just wanted to run out of the classroom because her friends were  not going to be the same class.Days later she made her handwriting worse and decreased her knowledge.The days trailed on and on the seconds passed on like hours and the hours felt like years.

In the middle of the night Leyla woke  up with the bang of the front door.She peeked  through the creak of her bedroom door to find that Miss Carson is not there anymore.She rushes towards the window to see Miss Carson holding a  candle padding down a steep path towards Sungers jungle. Leyla had a great idea to go and follow her but then Leyla wondered to herself.Can I go? Will I get in trouble? What should I do?Is it safe?

Outside the moon shone like a gleaming jewel .Inside, the light switch flickers on and off.

Leyla ran downstairs and quickly put her trainers on.She unlocked the door and had a flashlight with her (and some batteries in her coat pocket in case of it running out).She ran down the mysterious path until she was in the jungle.There she had seen it.A little faint light that became bigger and bigger as she drew closer and closer.Suddenly, she rushed through the bushes to see Miss Carson holding a baby bear / cub.”What is that!” Shrieked, Leyla shocked, slowly moving backwards. “It’s a baby bear or a cub as people say.I take care of it, it is so friendly.It’s name is Gem!” Leyla wondered Why is she with a baby bear? Does she even know they are dangerous? Gem stared at Leyla and Leyla stared at Gem as Gem slowly growled and slowly started creeping towards her.
