The Runaway

I stared right into his eyes, his eyes were dark red and  filled with fear. His clothes were unsanitary and smelt like a skunk. His arms and legs were as skinny as a stick. His fingers and nails were all wrinkly, his face was all muddy, his ears were filled with grime, and he had a small dagger in the back of his back.

As I saw what he looked like I told him “Open your mouth.” In a smooth, nice voice as if I wasn’t going to shout at him but I wish I did, he opened his mouth slowly and carefully and his teeth were busted against each other and were bleeding like a saw going different directions at  the same time. His tongue was also a bit cut off as if he couldn’t speak.

Mom shouted “ENOUGH!” my heart raced I was thinking to myself, why is he getting protected after all he has done? I was fed up so I went to get a glass of water and started thinking. I was very tired that day because it was late at night but I hope my little brother didn’t know about it. Mom called me but I didn’t want her to be sad so I went and she said, “ I found him a couple of days back, injured, he was bleeding and I didn’t want to let him die so I took him here.” “ He was starving so I gave him food and paid a carriage man to take him back home.” “I started nursing him and helped him regain all his strength back.” I was angry because she didn’t even tell me about him. She said “ This is our secret now and if he gets caught they will kill him. Have you seen what they already did to him! Now we have to keep this as a secret.

That night Edward went to sleep and dreamt of his brother and what might happen in the future. Twisting and turning around he had shuddered and then woke up drenched in sweat and shaking. He had some water and then went back to sleep.

The next morning, Edward went to see his brother and saw him on the couch laying there waiting for his food. All the blind were open and Edward realised that he was wearing new clothes. He had a bath and was cleaned up. Mother shouted, “John your food is coming!” It was as if he was living the luxurious life but she never did that to me. As Edward saw his mom feeding John he went and made his own meal since his mom was busy. He went upstairs to wake his little brother up and got him ready for school. As their little brother was in the toilet he talked to John in a soothing and calming voice to tell him “go hide.”
