The Confidential Emporium

Chapter 3

Emerging from the crisp water blurry greens and yellows greeted him in joyfulness. The rocky waterfall shimmering skittishly as the beautiful sun beamed brightly. Drenched, Logan clambered out of the water and stepped onto the sage grass, moist it swished in the heavy breeze. The wind was picking up now and curtains of branches opened a lovely welcoming forest. The forest had everything imaginable: hairy coconuts slept on the stiff roots and some were cracked revealing their silky white insides; tropical palm trees danced and waved eagerly as small droplets of rain fell on the dagger like leaves; and seasonal flowers bloomed happily and gifted a sweet scent complimenting the forest.

“Amazing,” announced Logan, protecting his bright blue eyes from the low sun. But only silence replied. Slowly, he climbed up an unpleasant palm tree to have the best view. Minutes later, he was at the top of the tree balancing, in the distance he saw dark thick smoke carving the scenery. Logan gasped. He sprinted out of the tree and hiked up the large hill, heading towards the mysterious smoke. Glaring at the small cottage he paused, he spotted something a miniature moat was placed around the cottage. That driven Logan to find out what is happening. He collected all of his energy and finally sprinted the couple of yards. Finally, he arrived without thinking he opened the crooked door it was pitch black inside and Logan had to squint to vaguely see anything, something was wrong. But then he heard it.

A terrifying roar, echoing through the harsh hills silenced everything in the forest. The anonymous roar slipped down Logan’s spine, he shuddered in fear, and after all he was alone. It sounded like it came from behind the old, ornate cottage. Trees froze terrified and some rocks crumbled skittishly, Logan paused refusing to move. He crept slowly towards the house diving around the rotten door, creating a birds eye view. Everything was normal and nothing moved a muscle except from Logan himself, but something was wrong, nothing could make such a scary roar, something was in the forest, something.

Logan heard it again, the mighty roar levelled with the wind. Then he saw it. A mountain of a creature galloped towards him. Suddenly, he noticed it: four padded paws pounded against the moist ground with sharp shiny claws scraping away; with a mane like a bush it swayed in the light breeze as the creature thundered through the tall wet grass. He noticed the danger, Logan sprinted towards the door that had been there.

Where could the door be? It seemed to be gone, nowhere in Logan’s sight, he was properly sure it was there when he entered. Confusion rushed through Logan’s body. “Nooo,” yelped Logan, as he crumbled to the floor in fear. “Help, please anyone,” he screamed. Only silence replied.
