Islands of Power

Islands of Power

On the island of Aqua,

I observed miniature streams ripple calmly,

while scale-smothered salmon disdainfully fled,

making the murky, ominous sand blush.

On the island of Ignis,

I smelt dense smoke flood the air,

and sorrowful trees form into pure ash,

the only living creature was the fire.

On the island of Vita,

flowers and plants bloomed beautifully,

perfume-like scents infused the fresh air,

while many varieties of fruit ripened.

On the island of Mors,

I witnessed nothing,

Barren lands aged hopelessly,

While earthquakes and tornadoes caused havoc and trouble.

On the island of Aeris,

Breath-taking scenes flourished,

Aeris made space gape silently,

with making habitats for singing birds.

On the island of Creatio,

Earth grew larger,

Expanding through space.

Chapter 1

Chapter 1                                                                                      HARRY

It was a murky crisp night in London on the 29th October. Cold, harsh rain patted down on concrete rooftops, as the metal streetlamps gently flickered exposing small areas of obscurities. And as the wind picked up, crusty leaves took flight.

Jeremy Stone dismissed all of the catastrophic weather. He was glaring onward, only seeing the wretched checkpoint, with the disheartened guard staring worthlessly. He wished he’d brought his warm coat not his hollow bodywarmer, as he attempted to pull down the non-existing sleeves. Jeremy’s jaw chattered as more puddles emerged from the freezing road.

He could see the guard letting fewer people through, not knowing anything about his simple job. As a small teen was allowed through, he could see past the crooked gates and lovely villas stood proud with smoke bellowing out from their own chimneys. Jeremy grinned timidly.

“Who’s next?” announced the guard moodily, peering through the miniature, army like line of expressionless children. Jeremy saw his chance and began to walk forward. The guard noticed him and then he knew there was no turning back now. “Hello Sir, I’m just heading to a small street in London, just got to drop this package off,” the curious man looked at Jeremy, eyebrows furrowed. “I’ll be having that now,” Jeremy was quite delayed handing the package over to the old man. “Why so hesitant boy?” the guard added. Jeremy shrugged then regretting that action! Loud, lengthy seconds passed by, but soon enough the guard abruptly nodded his bald head.

Steps later, Jeremy was through the rusty gate and in the higher part of town. Round where he was walking the streets were cleaner, the lamp-posts were more updated and the houses were miniature villas. Staring intently, Jeremy noticed some folks chattering on a wide path, suited up like managers at a restaurant.

Jeremy hoped so much that he could be as pleasured and wealthy as the people in the higher town. He could have cried in fury, of how everywhere was so modern and marvellous. As Jeremy was walking down taking a so-called alleyway, which was as large as the ghetto’s main street. He saw everything, he was bewildered. Sadly, he just thought of the words keep your foreign head down and walk onwards, his dad had infused him with those quoted words.

Some time passed. He passed few people. But then, Jeremy ran around a bend and bumped into a large man. The man was not as nicely dressed as the others but still was smarter than Jeremy. Jeremy sincerely apologised but the man did not accept the apology. He grabbed Jeremy’s bodywarmer’s collar and ran, Jeremy was helpless.

“That’s my parcel now,” said the man in a curt voice, while grabbing the parcel from underneath Jeremy’s arm. Suddenly, the man stopped. He paused. “Have you any cash boy, say no I’ll shake you down until wee pennies come out,” He added, sounding even more frightening now. Jeremy’s mind was racing through many challenging thoughts. The main thing was that Jeremy could tell the man was Scottish. The man sighed, Jeremy took his opportunity elbowed the man in the chest and sprinted. Little Jeremy left the man in pure shock, as he rustled through corners and alleys, slipping and skidding. Jeremy cracked a smug smile proud of his pure bravery to get past the somewhat dangerous killer.

The Scottish person came jogging towards where Jeremy was hiding, he gulped in fear of the man catching him again and never returning to the ghetto. As the shadow got larger and larger Jeremy lost hoped. He gave-up. Jeremy observed his surroundings, he saw a miniature gap behind a door Jeremy knew he could fit through. He took his chance. He ran, and amazingly slipped through out onto another sly alleyway but there was a solid brick wall stopping the way. Jeremy turned back and ran towards a crooked, rotten and door. He rammed it through, the poor door busted open he was safe, for now!

Panda, panda,

Why does your large body lope?

As you slowly walk across your territory.

Panda, panda,

Why does your pitch-black and ghost-white fur frantically swoosh?

How do your intricate eyes observe so calmly?

Panda, panda,

Ought I praise you for your courageous climbing?

Why do you eat so much bamboo?

your diet must be never ending in marvellous meals.

Panda, panda,

Are you really known as the bamboo-muncher?

Hill-roller, tree-rambler and the paramount-animal.

Panda, panda,

Why can’t you show me your pure playful side?

Show me how to roll down hills and swim calmly,

not letting the tranquil water ripple.

Panda, panda

Will you teach me your chilled ways of life?

Can you clarify how to eat so efficiently?

Make me perfect, just like you.

Sky Dancer

I am the ornate feathers fluttering in the wonderous wind,
I am mischievous, darting quickly through the ghost-white clouds.
My beautiful eyes, taking in the wonderful scenery
the beautiful landscape observing me a common buzzard.

My claws snatch away dreams,
my bony legs stumble, awaiting to take flight.
My own prey trembles when I screech,
sending vibrations through the dense woodland.

I am the whoosh of the translucent air flying past you,
my wings spread as I dive elegantly.
I am a mountain-glider, mouse-hunter and the field-scanner.

I am known as the one and only air-breather,
elegantly soaring, happily diving.
I am me.

Scottish Highland Cat

Scottish Highland Cat

Ghost-white whiskers,
curve in the gentle breeze.
The highland-walker’s nose,
slightly damp, it twitches quickly.

Fur matted and thick,
it hardly moves.
Its teeth covered in plaque like a yellow bone,
but as pointed as a sharpened knife.

Peering happily,
the highland cat’s pupils gnaw down,
creating a slim onyx-black strip.
Poised on the clay perch it shrieks,
infusing fear across the Scottish lands.

Slowly striding,
the Scottish-hunter’s long tail curls up,
like a harsh leather whip.

Sky Diver

The Sky Diver

The sky diver’s elegant wings make it soar,
through any condition of weather,
midnight in the harsh cold or a sunny morning crisp fresh air flowing.

Claws like sharp razors can slice through anything,
a quick whoosh of its hand can make anyone scream,
either in fear or mild pain.

Fur thin it can sprint and fly faster than lightning,
and screech louder than fierce thunder.

Despite its small ears the sky diver can hear wonderfully,
echoes, shouts and whispers it doesn’t matter it can hear the sounds.

Luckily, its tiny size it can hide efficiently anywhere,
soaring through caves and crannies anything.

Hunting is the sky divers one and only weakness,
its population have sadly descended massively.

Surprisingly, with its blood red eyes it doesn’t it meat,
being prey is hard but the amazingly they successfully survive.

Chapter 2

“My name is Vinicius Bronze I am Brazilian,” said a short man, lurking in the dark behind a mahogany desk. A light flickered above the man revealing his pale white face, Logan shuddered in miniature fear. “A lot to observe my good fellow isn’t it ?” he whispered, Logan didn’t know what to reply with so he simply nodded in slight agreement. “As you are my only customer you are completely free to look around, but just before you head off, what is you name? “Erm.. My name is Logan, Logan Fowler,” he replied. “Ok Logan but let me remind, you can touch anything except from my magical Book of Secrets!”

Seconds later, Vinicius Bronze disappeared in a whirl of mist behind a metallic curtain. A small idea slipped into Logan’s head, he edged closer to the Book of Secrets. He longed to know what words and phrases were wrapped up inside the pages, and to write something of his own inside the Book. Logan saw the curtain move and quickly sprinted to the opposite side of the emporium, nothing was in his view so he glimpsed at the book and slowly crept, closer and closer, to the posh desk. Losing interest he walked past the curtain and a dim corridor stretched further than he could of imagined, curiosity rushed through Logan. Gazing at the corridor he noticed something, many ornate doors formally lined up on each side of the room!

Turning back, he opened gingerly opened the Book of Secrets and peered curiously inside, his own eyes widened in disbelieve. Each page held many different ideas describing special worlds and realms, he imagined his own wonder he praised the thought. The were immaculate sketches of rivers, frozen lakes, tropical waterfalls, and revelling forests. Logan grinned in happiness.

Hardly thinking, Logan plucked a gold fountain pen from a translucent jar, and grabbed the Book of Secrets. Remembering the small desk where the man was sat, he sprinted towards it. Opening the book Logan flicked the thick pages aside and stopped on a blank page, he gingerly took the ornate lid off and wrote. Sketching trees and waterfalls everything he longed to see, and added small labels to describe it. Logan grinned in happiness and signed the sketch of with his name. Suddenly, his name turned into a gold colour like the sun, instead of pure pitch black.

Closing the book a rustle came from inside an aged trophy, a tiny monkey crawled joyfully from the silver cup. The monkey greeted Logan with a skittish wave, he then beckoned Logan with a cute hand gesture. Sprinting, Logan followed the monkey into the long corridor he explored earlier, then the monkey came to a harsh halt. A new well furnished door stood proudly with a bronze door-knob. Quickly, thinking Logan knew what to do. He simply entered.

A bright beam of light filtered through the door slightly ajar. Logan shielded his eyes and walked through calmly, some jewelled grass, some desert dry and some moist. All swayed and swished in the light breeze. And a tropical waterfall flowed with fresh clear water creating a small water-pool. It was just like the pages described he laughed in amazement. Hurrying he dived into the water.

Chapter 4

Logan was purely shocked, like an audience watching a magic trick. Anxious, he threw himself around, looking everywhere, persevering to find the special door. Logan swore the door was placed in the exact spot, confusion ploughed through him. He stamped his foot in anger, he forgot everything, his mind was blank, he was helpless. Suddenly, a small round shimmer glinted in the rays of sunlight, he expected the best possible answer, the door. Exiting the old cottage, he quickly ran down the hill and back to the beautiful waterfall. Ignoring the sharp rocks, Logan jumped and leaped from one to another, realization struck him the grand glint was some of the damp rocks. He stared at the clean, crisp water in sadness noticing his reflection. All of a sudden he saw a small door knob hover in the water, and a wooden plank slept a the bottom. Logan knew exactly what it was.

Immediately, Logan plunged into the small water-pool. Logan thought the freshwater would be freezing, it was surprisingly warm. Unsurprisingly, Logan was always a talented swimmer he could swim with ease. Panicking, he heard the thunderous sprint of the creepy creature, he knew what to do. So with that he took a large, deep breath and dived under swimming and kicking frantically.

Seconds later, Logan found himself floating next to the special door, he grasped for the door handle, quickly he held the door knob and violently tugged the door open. A large whoosh of air bubble surrounded Logan. A quick as a flash of lightening he was through the mahogany door. Opening his eyes he saw a blurry corridor which was a familiar sight for Logan. He was back, in The Confidential Emporium. He panted trying to engulf as much air as possible.

Anxious, Logan crept through the corridor and back to the main shop. Surprisingly, Vinicius Bronze was stood around polishing some chine tea pots, which when cleaned he stacked them gingerly on top of a dust smothered shelf. Unnoticed, Logan paced around, he was welcomed back by many recognisable sights: a velvety curtain hung hopelessly surrounded by a mahogany wardrobe; a small silver crow flew around the dark, damp room chipperly; and many potions and pots stood proudly creating small area name an apothecary.
“You have returned is see,” Mr Bronze said, noticing Logan gazing around the emporium. “But I would like to bring up an unsafe action, you wrote in the book didn’t you, I flicked through all of the pages and there was one to many,” he said, looking very annoyed and frustrated. The shopkeeper slowly walked towards Logan and pointed at him, he said in a stern voice, “Get out of my shop now, no questions asked.” Without replying he headed for the door.

Logan paced out of the shop and sat down on a solitary bench in sadness. Logan wanted to find more information about everything related to the Confidential Emporium. He tilted his head to look but only a couple of midnight bricks led down on where the emporium used to be. Logan was purely confused, so he simply turned around and his mind was blank like a piece of unused paper. But he noticed something he remembered about it, a small circus monkey followed him along the street path as he paced home.

Logan whispered to him self, maybe it would reappear, hopefully it would. What Logan forgot was that a small monkey was following him closely behind. As Logan turned around it hid behind a large trash collector bin. As Logan gave up on trying to find the Emporium again Logan walked on home and the monkey screamed with all the time in the world.

Chapter 3

Emerging from the crisp water blurry greens and yellows greeted him in joyfulness. The rocky waterfall shimmering skittishly as the beautiful sun beamed brightly. Drenched, Logan clambered out of the water and stepped onto the sage grass, moist it swished in the heavy breeze. The wind was picking up now and curtains of branches opened a lovely welcoming forest. The forest had everything imaginable: hairy coconuts slept on the stiff roots and some were cracked revealing their silky white insides; tropical palm trees danced and waved eagerly as small droplets of rain fell on the dagger like leaves; and seasonal flowers bloomed happily and gifted a sweet scent complimenting the forest.

“Amazing,” announced Logan, protecting his bright blue eyes from the low sun. But only silence replied. Slowly, he climbed up an unpleasant palm tree to have the best view. Minutes later, he was at the top of the tree balancing, in the distance he saw dark thick smoke carving the scenery. Logan gasped. He sprinted out of the tree and hiked up the large hill, heading towards the mysterious smoke. Glaring at the small cottage he paused, he spotted something a miniature moat was placed around the cottage. That driven Logan to find out what is happening. He collected all of his energy and finally sprinted the couple of yards. Finally, he arrived without thinking he opened the crooked door it was pitch black inside and Logan had to squint to vaguely see anything, something was wrong. But then he heard it.

A terrifying roar, echoing through the harsh hills silenced everything in the forest. The anonymous roar slipped down Logan’s spine, he shuddered in fear, and after all he was alone. It sounded like it came from behind the old, ornate cottage. Trees froze terrified and some rocks crumbled skittishly, Logan paused refusing to move. He crept slowly towards the house diving around the rotten door, creating a birds eye view. Everything was normal and nothing moved a muscle except from Logan himself, but something was wrong, nothing could make such a scary roar, something was in the forest, something.

Logan heard it again, the mighty roar levelled with the wind. Then he saw it. A mountain of a creature galloped towards him. Suddenly, he noticed it: four padded paws pounded against the moist ground with sharp shiny claws scraping away; with a mane like a bush it swayed in the light breeze as the creature thundered through the tall wet grass. He noticed the danger, Logan sprinted towards the door that had been there.

Where could the door be? It seemed to be gone, nowhere in Logan’s sight, he was properly sure it was there when he entered. Confusion rushed through Logan’s body. “Nooo,” yelped Logan, as he crumbled to the floor in fear. “Help, please anyone,” he screamed. Only silence replied.

Prologue

Some places are never noticed. Cut off from the forgiving world and nestled in dark, damp alleyways. The Confidential Emporium is one of those few buildings, which temporally lives in more dodgy streets of Glasgow. The Emporiums existence is to hide and choose the special people. Who are out there.

The Confidential Emporium is infused with different, expensive and unique items ranging from size and price. Bright shadows lurked into windows of the Emporium, sodden toys stood on top of sage green boxes and rare, gold model planes hung from unstable beams attached to the ghost white roof. Through the single-pained windows at the back of the mysterious room was a blood red curtain hiding the classified secrets of the Emporium, the curtain acted like an imaginary shield. Even though, the Confidential Emporium was dazzling and beautiful.

No one entered, no matter the bravery and personality, the Emporium was always empty. No matter the season, year, month or day lights off the door was closed and no one was to be seen in the Emporium, until Logan came along.

Chapter 1

Logan was a young boy, he went to primary school and was amazing at magnificent maths. But his curiosity always got him into trouble no matter the situation, he is a very cheeky boy and spends most of his time in the head Teachers office. But one evening, after school he looked around the raven black streets of Glasgow. Minutes later, he saw a tall, towering building up ahead of him, he sprinted. It was the anonymous Confidential Emporium, and for once the door was ajar. He walked in side!

Everywhere Logan gazed it was infused with significant jewellery and toys, wonders overwhelmed him. Everything was to much for Logan to take in at once, there was: a gold bookcase, nestled in between a the arch of the old ornate manor, like a ghost white statue; a bronze flask gingerly placed on top of a shelf, like a wooden hand supporting it; a miniature fire place fit for an Irish Lepro-corn, the warm ferocious flames roaring loudly. Logan took a large breath, he froze and turned around there was a chirping sound. He saw small swallows darting in and out of the cobbled, ornate and small fire-pit. Logan smiled and watched them for a while. When his curiosity descended, he walked around again and again and again, admiring. But what interested Logan the most was a large heavy leather, hard-back book sleeping on a freezing table. Walking closer, he saw the gold engravement, saying The Book Of Secrets.

“I’ve seen you found my Book Of Secrets, a powerful book that is, though it is priceless” hissed a quiet voice from the corner of the shop. Logan screamed, he saw the old crooked man sitting in a wooden chair, he smiled at the man. No smile returned. On his shoulder a small, shy tawny owl sat inquisitively. It squinted at her disapprovingly.
