Chapter 4

Blocking out the ringing in her ears, Laila walked directly to where she was certain that the door was. There was nothing there, but there was a tiny arrow pointing at a coconut tree that was hidden by leaves. Its colour was not green, it was blue. It had a long midnight black trunk. She ran to the tree, she could barely notice what she was certain was the shape of the door that was missing.

Laila tip-toed, making sure that the man wasn’t following her. She cleared the leaves out of the way until she was able to touch the door. Her heart was beating faster than Usain Bolt’s record speed. Bravely, she yanked the door handle and kicked it harder than a rock. With a boom, the door blasted open, like a bullet coming out of a gun she shot through the door. Tired, she lay on the floor catching her breath. The door closed. As astonishing as it was, her clothes weren’t dirty. She returned to the Emporium but really none the smarter. What had just happened?

Quietly, she stepped back, carefully sneaked through the velvet door and tip-toed into the shop. Mr Rubeus Hagrid glared at her, “ Ah, I see you have returned to us. Did you enjoy it ?” Laila shook her head frantically, unsure of how she felt.

“The thing is,” Mr Rubeus Hagrid continued, “ you can be at many magical places but you must always be careful when going into a door in the emporium, let alone at least one you were warned about.” He placed the tiny silver coin that he was polishing on the desktop, flipped it and gave a grin.

Laila ran on the street and then, curious, wanting to explore lots more, turned around. But Mr Rubeus Hagrid and the Emporium had vanished. It had quite simply vanished as though it had never even existed. She felt the wind of magic and shivered.

Maybe tomorrow, she wondered to herself as she jogged home. Maybe tomorrow

What she didn’t realise was that she was being trailed by a snake fairy. It rested in a birdhouse that was outside of Laila’s house and watched her all night. The snake fairy shook its head and sighed. It had the whole entire time in the world.
