Carla through the Emporiom

Left at birth and lived her whole life in an orphanage,Carla was a tough, careless and a really stubborn 12-year-old. Which was quite odd since her name was an  elegant one,she was the complete opposite. One of the things that was positive about her was that she was smart.Really smart. One midday in California, she’d just escaped from the orphanage when something caught her eye.The Emporium. The window was finally open! Carla always wanted to explore it.She made sure her backpack was closed and with her.Without a second thought or caring about any others’,she perfectly jumped in without making the marble floor inside squeak.

It was a bit of a disappointment to Carla from her point of view. She expected it to be dull and filled with chunks of dirt scattered on the floor, with rotten newspaper everywhere and mouldy cheese taking up the space, all creepy and curious.Instead, vivid fairy lights hung around the wall charming their way through at glimmering the area.Clocks were placed all other the solid, brick wall presenting different times. There was a wooden wardrobe standing there in a corner crammed with dangling spider webs.Carla knew that would lead her to something so she activated her fingers to seek for it like a robot commanded to move. She found some photos of…guns, many tall hats and old books. One coffee-brown book that wasn’t like others. It was clean and not dusty,it had golden edges at the side that you could roughly see your reflection on.In the middle, there was an oval,salmon-pink gemstone that wasn’t removable. She held the book with care, interested of what it could behold. With glory in her eyes, she whizzed through the pages only to see really fancy handwriting.Clara realized that this wasn’t any ordinary book,it was a magic book with spells! And had dates of the past and the future of what will happen which explained why the book was so thick.

“Oh,you found just what I was looking for,”A low voice sighed.

Panicked,Clara shut the book and put her inky-coloured hoodie up to cover her 2 french braids. She swirled to face “the voice” but kept her head down. She didn’t want some stranger knowing what she looked like. She could hear footsteps (which caught her attention and took a peek) and it was a tall, thin man leaving a shadow with long brunette hair reaching his shoulders, blue bright eyes. He wore  a fancy suit and a ruby, red bow-tie.

“I know kung-fu and am not afraid to use it you long haired-freak!”She lied. She had no experience but did know how to fight.

He smiled, revealing toffee-stained teeth with six golden ones.

“Aah,it’s you.I knew you’d come on time or rather early.Don’t be scared kid, you’re safe here with me.The names…Mr Grizston,”He explained as he bowed.
