The Monkey
Monkey, monkey with thick fur
why do you live in the woods?
Family-leader monkey-protector
as big as squirrel you run for
your prey.
Monkey, monkey hiding in the trees
their big eyes helping them to see
As fast a shark fighting for its prey
the god of monkeys isn’t afraid
he is able to eat anyone in sight
even in the darkest of nights.
As they run on all fours
their nails dig into the ground
making a sound that anyone should be scared of.
I like the comparison of the monkey to a shark fighting for its prey, it’s creative and makes for an interesting image. Quote: “As fast as a shark fighting for its prey”.
To improve, you could try adding more detail to the description of the monkey’s appearance and actions. For example, describing the color of their fur, or the way they move through the trees.
A question for the author: What inspired you to write about monkeys and why did you choose to focus on their strength and ferocity?
