Lightshadow – Prologue & Chapter 1

Prologue

You may have rocketed through the limitless pillow-like clouds as you admired the view from the heights of a speedy sky-ship. You probably remember when you soared above the flourishing flowers blooming in the fields and the sun beaming at your face, shining like a luminous phoenix feather glistening in the night. When you flew carelessly – finally escaping your daily cage that kept you stuck in the same, dreaded routine.

You might recall your smile on that marvellous ship whilst the wind brushed past your ears, having a relaxing holiday without any annoying chatter. You must’ve seen the beautiful bluebirds fluttering their wings like eyelashes softly skimming each other.

However, life on a skyship that tosses and turns in the thunder isn’t as fun. The lightning will pierce through the charcoal sky, almost slicing your sky-ship in half! When the pitch runs out and you drop down, crashing crazily to the ground.

Many explorers said that they’d encountered the most spine-chilling sky-vamps. Ones with menacing, brooded capes, ferocious fangs and dark, eagle-like eyes glaring into your heart like a mutant stethoscope. That’s when a sky-ship ride gets tough…

Chapter 1

Jasmine stumbled towards the safety pole, her eyes burning with salt-filled tears. She gasped for air as thunder cackled through the sky-ship. She stared at her elder sister – Daisy – confused as to why she was grinning with delight when the air ship was somersaulting across the ebony sky. After a month of adventuring, they assumed that they would be rocketing above The Forbidden Woods but with thunder and lightning slicing the sky, they couldn’t do anything.

In the blink of an eye, blood splattered. The sky-vamps had arrived! Absolutely terrified, Jasmine saw a handful of them glide across the gritty clouds as 3 pairs of soulless eyes headed towards The Lightshadow. Captain Kerai spun the wheel like a Catherine Wheel, scarcely avoiding the perilous blood-suckers.

For a few minutes, the vampires had disguised themselves between the endless clouds, waiting for the captain to steer away. Hail bashed against the sky ship as Daisy looked through the binoscope. It showed nothing. Fog blocked their way.                                                                                                                                  “Watch out!” Captain Kerai yelled through the mega speakers.

A few seconds later, the Lightshadow shot down like a bullet, the super helium slowly seeped through the ‘indestructible’ balloon. They dropped below the inky clouds, all from a hole, made from the finest fangs of a sky-vamp. The sisters searched for the evil troublemakers. But where were they now?
