Amaryllis

Amaryllis

Amaryllis bloom

like red lights

branching out green vines

that clutch onto cherry trees.

Their brown roots

like string, rummage deep

into soft, brown soil

that squishes as

easily as a yogurt.

The green stem shoots up

like a piece of celery,

as green as emeralds.

Leaves dangle

like sore, irritating hang-nails.

Pastel, white, albino petals

Striped with red, unbloomed

Reveal a secret stash of pollen
