Cogheart – Chapter 4

Emma dreamed of her father’s gentle voice calling her. She was sprinting down a long and dark hallway towards the voice. But as she came closer and closer, the sound had shifted further away.

When she awakened in the barn,  sunlight was peeking in. Dean was still fast asleep, but Marc was all energetic, showering himself. He looked up at Emma with his amber eyes halfway open. Emma snuck over and began to wind up the shiny key. After a while, he stretched his arms and mumbled. “That’s much better. By all that ticks, it’s time to return what is legally yours. I saw Professor Tinklediddle only 15 minutes ago and the rascal is setting up his golden airship! Up you get you unambitious people, we have got work to do!”

“ Oi, I was having the best dream ever you know,” moaned Dean. Yawning, he stretched his body and his red eyes.

Together, Emma, Dean, and Marc tip-toed over to the airship, where they saw Professor Tinklediddle holding a wooden box on board. Marc led the way onto the ship, and Marc had opened the box-finding the amazing designs still remaining inside. But the professor spotted them and came sprinting, shouting like a furious karen. Emma quickly released the airship ropes, and they had floated into the sky. The three watched as the professor stamped his foot, turning red and spluttering but they were already way too high to hear what he was spitting out.

Below the deck, they found Albert Chester tied up to a chair. Emma had freed him. “ Come on,” he said, climbing on deck and taking control of the airship.” We will soon put some sense into that villain and find somewhere to land and then seek out the Policemen.” As the airship floated above the town, the children stared at the view in awe. Tiny houses dotted the edges of the hills that quite looked like a drawing of a dog. Big flurries of snow had started falling on to the hunter-green fields and Emma had begun to smile with happiness, to be with her father again. Marc flapped his wings and fell asleep as Christmas came closer.
