The multi-COLOURED mask

 The multi-coloured mask

When I put on the mask of black I saw;

a ghostly figure made from shadows;

a witch’s cat wearing a witch’s hat;

a car painted vantablack:

When I put on the mask of black I saw;

the pupil of a panther;

and a midnight sky glistening with stars.

When I put on the mask of red I saw;

a raging, ferocious fire climbing up a tree trunk;

a ruby dangling from a silver necklace;

a sweet, juicy apple being picked;

When I put on the mask of red I saw;

a horrific blood puddle;

a field of roses;

and the red ink of a pen.

When I put on the mask of orange I saw,

a tiger fighting for food;

a ocean sunset;

a fresh, tropical orange;

When I put on the mask of orange I saw;

a crowd Dutch football fans

a middle-aged man eating a marmalade sandwich;

and the sand of a far away desert.

  1. What a great poem, Harrison. Thank you for posting it on TeachingLive. You have used some really affective alliteration. My favourite line is, “a middle-aged man eating a marmalade sandwich;” Well done, we will look forward to reading your next poem!
