Chapter One
The Escape
Crack! The door was breaking. The Gorm were winning.Heather (the children’s mother/queen) suddenly appeared next to the kids terrare carved into her face. She tried to usher the young rabbits away. Taz holding Took while Todkin tried to slip away to help their father. Todkin glimpsed a nervous look on Taz’s face. “Why are we here? We need to go help” questions Todkin. They had arrived in the bedroom. Heather didn’t reply but instead started ransacking the room. While Took wailed, drowning out the cries of other rabbits down stairs. Finally, Heather found what she was looking for, it was an item wrapped in parchment paper. She gave it to Todkin. “I was told by your father if anything ever went wrong to bring you here and fear somethings gone wrong,” Heather whispered. She pulled a perfume bottle off the shelf and the sound of stone dragging began. A small holl next to the bed had appeared. Heather pushed the three children in.”AHH,” wailed Taz.It’s for your own good I’m sor…” Heather was cut off as she shut the door behind them.
It all went dark; that’s the last they heard of their mother.
They tumbled down the ancient tunnel. Finally, they reached flat ground and Took started crying her eyes out being very attached to her mother. Taz sat up after falling on the small parcel and then banged her head on the roof. “What should we do?” asked Todkin. “ don’t know but you open your present,” answered Taz. Todkin nodded and slowly opened it and as curiosity got the better of him he ripped out the object. It was a small knife and a note.”Give me the note!”she shouted as she snatched it out his hand. It read.
If you are reading this my children then my worst nightmare has happened. The knife is magic and you must protect it from the Gorm. It can cut anything but iron and you must remember whatever happens I love you all very much. Never forget that.
Silence filled the room. Then Taz spoke up “We should keep moving the Gorm will still be hunting. Also for the first time Took stopped crying and just held his head in sorrow. They crawled through the tunnel for hours in silence. Taz was leading as she had studied the tunnels many moons ago.”We should have stayed to help!” Todkin blurted out.”They would have slaughtered us all.” Taz replied.” I could have fought them,” mumbled Todkin. They kept on going.
Finally, they found a way out but it was a steep drop into a bed of snow. Suddenly, an ear splitting scratch of metal.”I think we’d be better of in here than out there,”Taz squeaked. They all nodded in unison . They all managed to fall asleep to restless night listening to the lullaby of screeching iron on iron.
Chapter 2
Safe or not
Taz woke up to a fright. The nightmares of last night rushing back to her. Her skin crawled. She held Took in her arms. Todkin was fast asleep but restless, kicking and turning with a concentrated look on his face while doing so. Taz slapped him around the face. “Wake up!” growled Taz. His stomach groaned as he woke up drenched in sweat. Taz, with Took in her arms, clambered over Todkin preparing to jump into the blanket of snow at the end of the drop. Todkin woke himself up with a shake as Taz and Took softly thudded into the snow. Todkin soon followed after making sure that Taz and Took were out of the way first. The cold shot at him like knives piercing his skin as he fell growing colder and colder.
He could see Taz holding Took huddled up in a ball, the colour stripped from their faces already as he could feel his own. They started trudging through the snow as soft snow flakes melted on their skin. ”Where are we going?” moaned Todkin. “North West,” muttered Taz “It’s where we are safest in The Vault.”
They trudged on for what seemed like hours; only little Took’s cry’s filled the air. Eventually Todkin broke the silence with an almighty yell of “I’M HUNGRY!”
Taz spun round ”What the hell are you doing, are you trying to get us killed by the Gorm or what!” hissed Taz. He looked ashamed and looked away. She sighed and explained “there is a burrow not far from here where we can gather food and supplies, we’ve just got to keep moving.”
They carried on fighting off the snow that was freezing them.It was only a few minutes before they saw the faint glow of Water Way Warren as dusk started to fall. They rushed on with haist tempted by the warmth. Then they reached the door and it swayed as the wind blew. It was unlocked…
Chapter 3
The Gorm are Everywhere.
Instantly, they pushed open the door. There was a crumpled individual in the doorway. It was the Queen. She ran to them. “Come, sit and eat,” she squeaked. Todkin gladly sits down, Taz following after. They were given mushroom soup. But out of the corner of her eye she spotted a Gorm crow. She ushered to Todkin and he soon realised what she meant. Slowly, they started packing up trying not to draw attention to themselves.
Crack. The bowl that Todkin was eating out of had fallen to the floor and shattered. Instantly, the noise from the bowl interrupted the Queens conversation. Her once kind eyes now blood shot and full of rage staring back at them dead. Taz’s face was paisted to a nervous wreck as pale as the moon.
Taz started dragging Todkins arm with Took in her arms, now awake and crying. Then they ran. People’s cries filling the tunnel echoing around them. Without warning, the Gorm were right on their tales.
Seconds later, Todkin turns a corner Taz and Took right behind him. ”THERE!” yelled Todkin. There at the end of the tunnel was an exit. Within a moment, the exit was shutting. Instantly, they started running as fast as their little legs could carry them. Finally, they slide under the closing door holding each other’s shoulders.
Suddenly, a searing pain came in Todkin’s right ear. It was gone. The door had cleanly sliced his ear off.
Then, Taz stood up to find they were completely surrounded by the Gorm with War Head in front of them. “Going some wear” He announced in his deep raspy voice “I don’t think so.£ He was full of muscle. So he easily picked them up. “Take them to the dungeon.” War Head Ordered.
Chapter 4
The End
The floor and ceiling were lined with iron. The dungeon was grim and mold was filling every corner and crack. It had a damp airless smell which came from a lantern that was dimly lit. Took was in a cage while Todkin and Taz were chained to the wall. They were determined to escape.
Suddenly, a digging sound started. Then a whole appeared. A fox stepped out; freed Took and then unfastened Todkin and Taz. At that moment, a mole stepped out of the whole. ”I think this is yours,” the mole bowed and gave the knife to Todkin. “Why are you helping us?” Taz asked the fox.”The mole convinced me now, come on.” murmured the fox.
They ran through the tunnel for what seemed like hours.
Then they broke the surface and ran, all the fox wanted them to do was run. Finally, he stopped,” What about the Gorm?” panted Taz. ”TNT babe!” he replied and with that he pulled out a remote like object and pressed a button…
Boom! The Gorm base was gone, the only thing that was left was a gaping crater.”Wow,” blurted Todkin in amaze.
A single deer trotted over “here’s a ride,” yelled the fox “Jump on.” They all clambered onto the back of the marvellous deer. ”We need to go to the Vault.” shouted Taz. “Then what are we waiting for.” the fox replied. They rode while a beaten WarHead waiting, listening in the shadows like a forgotten dream.
