Chapter II
That dragon. How ferocious Sharper was. It had eyes that were as red as the fire in hell. It had furr as orange as a ripe pumpkin. It had teeth as fierce as a cannibal. It had wings as big as an oak tree. The dragon had ears that could sense sound from miles away.
Sharper slowly walked towards me, as if I was his prey. Then, something unexpected happened. It snuzzled around me and made me feel as if I was back home in the city, in my warm, cosy room. I carefully petted him and it made this sound. Mrs Snark told me that when it makes that sound, it means it is happy. I didn’t know what to do so I just smiled. On the way home, Mrs Snark did not even shout at me for being out in the woods, dead at midnight, without permission.
When we got home, I couldn’t help but ask Mrs Snark about the dragon. She said “I once found an egg in the woods and brought it inside. But I noticed something strange was going on inside the egg and I thought there was a chicken that was about to hatch. I would wait for it to hatch every morning and every night for 16 days. But on the seventeenth day in the night, it started hatching. There was one crack, then another, and another, and it finally hatched but it was not a chicken,” she paused. “It was a baby dragon! I was about to keep it but then realised it must stay with its mother. I searched the whole woods and couldn’t find the dragon’s mother. So I kept it for 5 years then took her back to the woods and promised Sharper that I would always visit him and bring food.” And she had kept her promise ever since. “Please don’t tell anyone about Sharper or he will be captured and killed.”
“ I would ever tell anyone about Sharper,” replied Henry.
That same night, he dreamed about Sharper. His orange smooth fur, his sharp clean teeth. His gigantic long wings.
Every night, he would go and visit him and bring his scraps from dinner. He would also make traps to capture small animals for Sharper to eat. Once Henry would get into the woods, he would always see Sharper sleeping on the ground and he wouldn’t want to wake him up. He would just put the food next to him and the Sharper would immediately sense the smell of food. Sharper would first be happy that Henry was here then he would eat the scraps and animals. Every night, Henry would always get a feeling as if he was back home in the city with his Mother and Father in front of him eating dinner. Henry would always let Mrs Snark know when he is going to see Sharper in the woods and she then gives him scraps to give to him.
Over the weeks, Mrs Snark was being kinder to Henry and she would not shout as much. Mrs Snark would sometimes also come and visit Sharper and every time, she would notice that Sharper and Henry had made a bond with each other.
