Chapter 3: Disaster

Soon, the Summer Holidays wandered over like a clingy puppy. Full of possibilities!  Annette would wake up and feel the breeze of July winds on her orange spotted face. Everyday, she would go out in search of adventure! She would  find a rock by the lake to cimb and sometimes a tree.  If she was lucky she could find some ripe, blood red strawberries in the bushes. The sun gave everything in its path a  radiant glow, the grass grew greener than Jade gemstones. Although it was different to anything Annette had ever seen, she was starting to call it home.

At night, she went into the clearing in the  forest  to feed Ezra. They could sit together for hours under the protection of the quiet, glistening ball of grey mist. The big oak’s leaves sway in silence as the crickets’ make a gentle chirp. The creek would be motionless as the stars admired their reflection in the twilight mirror.

At night, Annette would dream of someone finding Ezra, but she knew it wasn’t possible. At day, Ezra would hide in the underground cave they had found and at night she would hunt freely as her silky smooth feathers camouflage in with the trees around.

Then one afternoon, as Annette came home from another adventure she heard a scream. She heard the sound of Ezra’s call. In broad daylight! She must have seen a rabbit! Annette didn’t know what she was doing  but she found herself running into the clearing, heart racing, mind wild. As she approached, she caught sight of Noah Harmsworth with blood dripping down his sleeve running, screaming as he went,  but her attention quickly focused on Ezra who looked distressed.

“Ezra!” Shouted Annette as the animal kicked her front legs menacingly to Noah who now was exiting the clearing. “ Ezra look, a nice ferret!” Ezra walked over and took the ferret out of Annette’s shaking hands, retrieving it back into the forest.

Annette’s heart pounded. Someone had seen her. What could she do? What would she tell Miss Astor? The animal they both adored had been seen and if they wanted her to live they had to act fast. She and Miss Astor talked about sending her back to Scotland where she had found her. There must be some sort of expert right?

Chapter 2

Ezra starred at Annette then at Miss Astor then back again. She seemed confused as to why 2 humans were standing so still both with a gaze directed directly at her. Her long wings were dainty like a lace handkerchief, and as majestic as a Greek goddess statue. Her hooves were strong and as black as a pyrolusite as they went clink clank at the turf below her elegant figure.

Amazingly, Ezra sniffed Annette and licked her with a pink, rough, sandpaper like  tongue.

“She likes you.” Murmured Miss Astor as they watched her spread her exquisite wings and fly off through the forest green and into the starry sky. As they walked out of the clearing and back to the house, they paused- Ezra was behind them. Then a rustle of wind was all that was left.

She’ll be watching,” Miss Astor said in no more than a whisper as they walked in silence. Annette felt a sudden urge of energy. “ Why didn’t,” Annette thought for a moment before changing her mind. “How did you find her?” She questioned.“ I found her as a foal in Scotland while on holiday about 2 years ago.” After what seemed like a billion questions, they arrived at the house. Annette hadn’t realised how tired she was. She lay down in her bed and everything went black.

That night, Annette dreamed of the mystic animal, with her fiery eyes warming up the forest with their sparkling glow.

Day and night, Annette would be bonding with Ezra. Bringing her a dead ferret or maybe some bacon off her plate after breakfast. Ezra would walk up to Annette slowly snatching the treat out of her hands then making her way to the end of the clearing before munching happily on her snack.

One day as Annette gave Ezra her 10th ferret that day, the animal paused. Slowly she made her way to Annette and gave her a gentle nudge on the cheek and snuggled up trustingly to her. After that day, Annette wouldn’t be miserable as she went to school, or annoyed when she couldn’t sew right as her mind was always on Ezra and what they were going to do next.

The letter

Dear Father,

Thank you for the gas masks you gave me and Robbie! The train instructor, Mr. Thomas, showed us how to put them on. We arrived in Bolton after noon and it’s awfully quiet! Mother would love it though. It’s nothing like Downing Street with all the cars and people.

When we arrived, there was a big crowd of people wanting to get first choice, it made Robbie scared so I gave him the teddy you packed us. It was loud and most people got picked by women whose sons and husbands are at war. We got picked by this couple named the Farquaads. It was almost like we were at the charity shop Mother goes to, everyone fighting over something. Anyway, we got to their house and it’s massive! It’s on a farm so we had more rations  than at home! Miss Farquaad taught me how to do dishes and Mr Farquaad taught Robbie how to pick vegetables(they grow their own food).
Me and Robbie share a room in the attic. The walls are yellow and the floor has a grey carpet. The bed is filled with pillows and teddies. Robbie loves it! The roof has a small hole in it, but I don’t mind. I can see the Big Dipper sometimes if I look close enough. There’s a small window at the top of the bed, it’s very quiet here—no cars, just the occasional cart or donkey. I’ve noticed that Robbie seems to like it. That’s good. We’re usually in the back garden playing football with Mr Farquaad, and if not we are in the living room playing chess.
I go to a different school than Robbie and that annoys me. It means I can’t make sure he’s ok but I think that’s for the better. I go to an all girls school and Robbie to an all boys. It has one big classroom and most of the older girls teach us reading and writing and the headmistress, Miss Phelps, teaches us how to sew and make clothes. It’s quite relaxing. Most of the girls in my class have bread and dripping sandwiches, but Miss Farquaad packs me vegetables, and if I’m lucky, I get some bacon!

Most of the other kids are friendly. They taught me how to play jump rope. It’s hard but I’ve got good at it. The boys play a game called jacks which looks boring. Most of the other evacuees just stay in a group.

I hope you’re safe and that the Nazis haven’t caught you yet! Write to me as soon as possible.

Love,

Grace

The Sun gleams a heart of gold.

The sun gleam sun heart of gold

My sorrow is mae from-

the coldness of a dead man’s casket,

the numb little bug trying to survive

the greeting of a battle heros’ welcome,

the darkness of the Grim reapers lost soul,

and a bittersweet reminder of winter’s fragile kiss.

I found it-

bottled up in a wizard’s lair,

concealed in the crisp edges of an ancient map,

caged and hidden in an archaeological dig,

discovered in the tombs of great Pharos,

where the Sun gleams a heart of gold.

This secret can-

freeze the souls of the most courageous of gods,

lead June Feild to the wrong prediction,

expel all joy from the world,

and break the Milky way,

make the wind wild,

calm the seas from megalodons,

and destroy the hearts of many.

Evil poem.

Evil poem.

The swan is

as pale as the moon.

Like an albinos footprint.

Ghostly fur.

The dancer is

As fragile as a cobweb

 Graceful gazelle

A tempestuous storm.

As mean a a serpent.

Like a  best, a forceful brother of hades.

Natures tyrant.

A vampire is

As alluring as the night

Like a fallen angle.

A god of beauty.

The violet is as calming as a lavender haze.

Like a lucien Amethyst.

Nature’s therapist.

The ship of Death.

 The ship of Death.

Crying wails from

below, the

deck’s in deadly presence.

Swaying swiftly through the pool of never ending

darkness.

Lethal ripples are sent to the

empty highway  through  the oars. Ghost-like figures

perform a dark

ritual.

Portholes linger, a silent sliver of sunlight

reaches the dainty

mast.

Blood takes over the cabin,

bones and corpses in every corner

attract domesticated

rats.

A long forgotten ship

sails an eternity of night & sea

silently sealing your

doom…

As soon as happy -faced Mr Hardy walked into class seven, the familiar room immediately appeared to turn happy .He was thin with a happy stare  rather like a happy person

Chapter 3: Victoria returnes

Rosalie hung on the battered drain pipe, her normal lighthearted spirit had faded. Leaving behind a hopeless soul in its place.

“Just give up Augurey, we can’t escape!” she sighed, slowly tugging on her friend’s hair. Augurey turned in shock, not believing what she had just heard, how dare Rosalie act like this!?

She stared at the little bat, after all they had done they can’t just sit back and give up!

“We can’t just give up! No, not now! Nothing comes from nothing Rosalie! You understand!?”

Augurey’s tone was angry, even though she tried to hide it, the flame of determination and hope burned in her eyes. Sighing, Rosalie accepted that Augurey wouldn’t stand for her behavior.

Outside, the golden wave of sunrise ruled the sky, welcoming the daytime like a harvest of light. Buildings and hills in the distance gleamed a brilliant glow but not everything on the inside was as pretty. After Augurey’s lecture of ‘not giving up’ and ‘not being so hopeless all the time,’ the tension had ever so slightly softened. ‘Tap tap’. A slow tapping on the cobweb infested window caught the attention of the Heroins inside. Outside, a figure stood  on the terrain below. The figure had brown hair and big, black boots with green and black leg warmers. A checkered skirt and shirt with a sleeveless jumper was Victoria…

Victoria helped force the window open and into the light they went. Their skin reflecting in the sun, the girls realised they were at risk of being found. Soon they had found an old, worn down barn to hide in until nightfall. On the way Augurey and Rosalie filled Victoria in on what was happening so far.

“Ok so let me get this straight, We don’t have a map or any clues where the stone could be?” questioned Victoria.

“Well umm, yes? Sort of.” Rosalie answered, head down in despair. They had so many unanswered questions and so much left to do in so little time. Where was the stone? Where was Enzo? Why had he appeared at his mansion when they had been there? Was it all a trap? They did not know, but now was time to rest, little did they know what fate had in store for them…

Chapter 1 – The message

Augurey Black ran,ran as fast as she could without getting notices.Looking back at the Lune Academy for girls, wondering how she got there, the words of her ally replaying in her mind. ’’Enzo,he got to the stokes, he’s on a killing spree come, come quick!’’ She was dying inside, even though she was immortal, the one thing she and the other vampires feared had got to the wrong hands and she had to act. And quick.

Running in the Victorian smokey streets was great, there was no sunlight.CRASH, someone or rather something spoke‘‘oh oh Miss Augurey Enzo he he-’’ but she was cut off. Augurey had the mechanimal in a tight grip, hugging her. Tears falling from her eyes as she spoke ‘’ I know I just got Victoria’s message.’’ Letting the mechanimal go she gazed upon the small bat, it was Rosaline, her eyes had their normal twinkle but something was missing. One of her eyes was cloudy and covered with lifeless colour. She had been injured in the ship.

Later that night,The 2 heroes set off through the church, into the graveyard and through the tunnel into the forest. Augurey had heard stories of beasts and the like lurking in the shadows, waiting to pounce like a tiger, eyeing down its prey. But nothing could stop her now,so on they went. “This is it”

“What is?” Replied the noticeably cautious voice that belonged to the little bat trailing behind. “The place where we can find the key to our success in preventing vampires to go extinct. All we need to find is a-”

“A magic gem that controls pain?”

“Yes Rosalie you fantastic little bat, but it’s not here,we need to find a map.”

The small yet powerful gem possessed powers not even the strongest of the strongest could have. Its bejewelled collars with its silky smooth textures made you weak at the knees. But not for Augurey.

Picturing the object in her mind, this was the key to the vampires’ peaceful lives being restored.Though this meant more to Augurey than anyone else. This was a token of the friendship herself and Victoria shared. This little gemstone had built their relationship, from the day they first heard of this wonder. They had set off to find it, their paths crossed, and they never went separate ways.

Rosaline perks up, eager to begin searching. “We don’t have forever, we need to get a move on!”

As Augurey’s mind shifts into the real world, she acknowledges the bat’s words of urgency.

“Ok ok lets go,but where exactly?”

“ To the manor, the one on the river banks? Does that ring a bell?”

After agreeing,Augurey sets off with her sassy companion through the Victorian night.
