The Castle.

He had disappeared. He was gone. He had disappeared without a trace. Spirit Wood had taken him. The cursed, twisting trees looked still on the outside, but on the inside it was a maze. A maze controlled by cheaters. She had to go find him. She knew the woods were cursed, those who entered never came back, but Fin never believed, he thought it was a myth. A thin, half layer of snow still lay on the ground like a torn blanket. However, despite the cold, she still walked on. She had their supplies, their remaining scraps of food and their spare clothes but Fin had nothing. It was a flat landscape with no landmarks, no way to tell where you were. Everywhere looked the same. Tall trees that reached the sky with a pale, silvery bark twisting and turning. It was all the same until she saw a tree stump and heard a rustling from near bye

Quick as a flash she turned around, she swore the scenery looked different, yet she shook it off, she turned to the tree stump again, now there was a strand of something, shimmering in the moonlight. She stepped before it and stole it, she waited in anticipation waiting for something to happen… but it never came. Until she heard a voice, ‘’Ivy, where are you!’’ It was fin and she wasn’t mistaken. ‘’Fin!’’ She screamed before running forwards and falling with a bump. She looked up ‘Fin!’ he was stood right in front of her. ‘’Come on, lets get out of here.’’. They ran towards the lake. Across from it was the moors! Ivy knew what to do, she grabbed the sting out of her pocket and realised, it was never ending. Perfect! She grabbed some spare branches and tied it into a raft. Realising what she was doing Fin helped. Together they pushed it onto the icy water and climbed aboard.

Hours had passed, and they had finally reached shore. They had gone down the river to reach the rolling moors. They stared at the scenery around wild cows, bluebells, roses and tons of heather. But they could see their finish line. The castle on the hill. Its shadow looming over the countryside. It was noon by the time they got there, they were stung with nettles and aching for walking for hours. At first they wanted to sleep but they had to push on.

They stepped into the gloom of the castle. The door looming in front of them, it was huge whatever creature lived there must have been huge. As if on command, the door clicked open. The children stepped inside, the roof was a glass dome showing the glow of the moon witch couldn’t quite be seen, but they didn’t have time to marvel at the castle since a large creature stepped in front of them. It was tall and skinny, its body lurching to the left and its skin a sickly pale colour. Its eyes blank, yet it knew exactly where there were. Quickly, Ivy grabbed the string out of her pocket and ran circling the creature. ‘Distract it!’ Ivy mouthed. Fin did as she said. Ivy continued to race circles around the demon. Before pulling the string tight. The monster fell to the floor. ‘’Its time to kill!’’ Fin ran to Ivy and looked in the bag, the shining dagger sat in the case, and you can guess what happened next.

The Enchanted Wood

Snow pounded down on them, drowning out all previous signs of life, the ivy, wild roses, and bluebells had disappeared into the void of starch white. A blanket of snow, had formed and it was getting, deeper, thicker, and holding them back. Their hands were red and trembled. Yet they still had to move forward. Hours past, yet the blizzard still persisted, and so did they in their search of a normal world.

Their skin ached, and they wanted to collapse, they wanted to be at home, they wanted to be safe. Out of the blue, they saw it a small cave, dripstone hung from the ceiling, and it was damp, but it was shelter. Despite being exhausted, the duo ran towards the cave entrance, holding back their final breaths. Before collapsing on the hard, cold grey floor of the cave, panting. They’d done it, they had made it through the maze of trees, and the snow. They were wet, damp and freezing, but they had found shelter. They felt drained, emotionally and physically, but they knew sleeping on the stone cold floor was bad, so together, Oliver and Piper set up camp and slept.

It was early in the morning when, Oliver finally awoke but Piper was still asleep. She didn’t stir. Oliver was starving though after that night, so crept out of his sleeping bag and crept towards the cave entrance. Outside it was mystical, the forest looked enchanted. I guess that’s why they call it spirit wood. The snow from the night before hadn’t melted. It was like a lake of pure white. Quickly he ran back inside and dressed into his winter boots and put on his mittens and hat. He was going hunting for food. Unfortunately, they didn’t have the resources to get meat so they’d be living of fruit and since it was winter, citrus was in season. So he wandered when he heard a fluttering sound he looked around, Citrus! He ran to collect it. Then there was a crack, he spun around again. The rock he was just sat on had gone. Instead the was a completely knew part of the forest. It really was a maze.

When Piper had finally awoke, she noticed Oliver gone. He’d gone missing. She knew of the forests enchantments, and how no one came out again yet she had forgotten to tell Oliver. The forest would be conjuring a way to keep him stuck, left to wander endlessly. There was no way to escape. She packed up her stuff, backpack, water, clothes… there was no food but there was rope, she knew why Oliver had left and she knew just how to help him escape this world of nightmares.

THE GRIM – Chapter 2: Spirit Wood

Chapter 2 Spirit Wood

They could see it. They could feel it’s magic. They knew it was safe, for now. Oliver, Ellie and Alex had finally reached Spirit Wood, a place for them to bunker down. The looked at their torn map, they would head to the middle of the forest, set up camp, sleep, then leave. The perfect plan. The woods were stunning. The sun was setting in the west and a mixture of colours gold, pink and yellow were making the perfect sunset and a magical glow through-out the forest. It was a fantastic sight but they needed shelter, somewhere to hide from natures elements so as a threesome they set of in search of large branches and a giant tree to lay them against. This part was easy the hard part was hauling the logs into place. However, half an hour later, they did it a shelter was made. They got out their sleeping bags and curled up under the now starlit sky hoping for the best.

It was early in the morning, 6am at the latest when Ellie heard something. She jumped up out of her sleeping bag, she was still in the same clothes as yesterday, leggings and a jumper. But she had to find out what the noise was. It wasn’t something normal. She heard munching, crunching, chewing. She stumbled forwards, watching her step to make sure she didn’t step on a snapped stick. As she scuttled forward she saw it. The silhouette of a creature the size of a cat, but with wings. It was eating something, that left a bright, red residue around its mouth. Was it blood or something else? What else is that bright red? Before she could come up with a real answer, the shaded creature turned to face Ellie. A scaly creature, with glowing, orange eyes turned to face her, a miniature dragon. The legends were true. She sighed with relief. This breed was harmless, and it wasn’t blood around its mouth, it was juice from wild berries. She crept up to the dragon, close enough so she could touch it. She reached out her hand. The dragon flew towards her and spun around. Ellie had befriended a dragon. She walked back to camp barely remembering the way with her emerald dragon her side. I’ll call you Draco, latin for dragon. Once she reached camp, or their little shelter, she woke Oliver and Alex up. ”I’ve got us a little friend” She said. Confused the others woke up, before them was Ellie and a miniature dragon. Once we are all fed we can leave. She emptied the backpack onto the floor, bread rolls, fruit, water bottles and a more. ”Lets feast!” They said in rejoice while Draco flapped his wings in excitement.

About an hour later, the group had eaten their meal and were ready to leave. Unexpectedly, they were going to be leaving Spirit Wood as 4 not 3. It was time for part two of their journey. They knew the closest place was Mistipia, the lost, crumbled city that used to thrive, it used to be the capital city but now is was empty, why you may ask. Because of the Grim. As they started their journey to Mistipia, they thought of all the terrible things that had happened their. Thresholds had opened, portals to another dimension had appeared because of this demonic being, people had disappeared to an unknow place were they most likely died. Those who didn’t vanish in an instant lost their loved one’s and everything they had ever worked for, and Oliver, Ellie, Ale and possibly even Draco could relate to this world of darkness. Here would be the scariest place so far. A crumbled city of the lost and forgotten.

THE GRIM

The day had finally come. The day the world stopped. The day the world ended. Something had happened that made the world go crazy, the world was a rollercoaster but it only went down meanwhile the amount of disappearances went up. A creature from the depths of the underworld had escaped the pits of hell. A creature named the Grim. Brother and sister, Alex and Ellie knew all about the newest disappearances since the creatures main target for now was their home town, Cymeria. Unlike the Government itself they knew exactly what the disappearances were like. It had just past 7pm when they were playing in there room when they heard a scream, a blood-curdling scream that shocked them to their core. The scream of their parents. Fear engulfed them, they didn’t dare move. They knew exactly what had happened but still they didn’t want to believe it. The Grim had happened.

It had been a week since the incident, but instead of being sent to live in a foster home they moved in with their best friend Oliver. It was only temporary but none of them planned to stay for long anyway. After what had happened, Oliver, Ellie and Alex all decided it was too dangerous to stay, there story was just beginning. They knew the only way to stay safe was to stay as far away from the creature as possible until it stopped creating havoc. They planned out a journey by printing out a map of the local area and drawing their path to safety. Soon after a long day of mentally preparing themselves they left a note to Oliver’s mum explaining why they were gone before plucking up the courage to begin there trek to Spirt Wood. They knew it would be a long trip, luckily the sky was clear however there were some clouds in the sky so they knew it wouldn’t last long, it was like a little warning letting them know they had to be quick. It was a long journey and this was only a quarter of how far they had to go overall the entire journey would take them days! It wasn’t long till they escaped the skyscrapers of the cities and they were wandering on an ever-bending cobbled path that darted through the open country. It wasn’t really the country however just a bunch of open fields. Traversing through the open fields was easy, it was empty, short, wild grass with a bunch of colourful flowers blooming and the odd oak tree that towered towards the sky they were natures skyscrapers, there huge leafy branches camouflaged them from above, it hid them from the sun and was he perfect shade. Slowly, as their destination got slightly closer, the grass got taller, wilder, Heather started to appear and there was more life. Cows started to appear, the trio had never been this far into the country before. They were part of the wilderness. It had been hours now and it was midday, the warmth of the sun had faded now. The shade gifted from the trees wasn’t much like a gift anymore, it was just there. Entering the shade now made you flinch as it sent a shiver through out your body making you want to leave. It worked. Now, instead of tying their jackets round their waist leaving them to hang limply, they pulled them on. Ellie, zipping hers up, the others leaving them. Nobody talked much, it was hard to find conversation when leaving because a blood-sucking demon had stolen your parents and if that hadn’t happened to you, you had to leave your parents anyway to remain safe. Oliver remained the mot quite, he had never been the bravest, and what had happened took a toll on him. He was a lot more anxious than normal, scared that this monster called the Grim would jump behind him and steal him away even though the Grim had never attacked someone who wasn’t alone. Despite knowing, this if Oliver ever trailed behind he would quickly run to catch up or constantly check over his shoulder. The others told him not to worry but they themselves were anxious. Spirit wood, was still miles away and it was still continuing to get colder and later by the hour. Fortunately, despite being a cold day, it was late summer meaning it would stay light for longer than normal, so they could travel onwards for longer. It was four o’clock when it became noticeable but more trees were appearing, the cows were out of sight and the slight sound of twittering could be heard every time they walked under a tree. Robins were fluttering around them perching on branches, one was so low to the ground that if they wanted they could of reached out to touch it. Spirit Wood was close now, the could sense it. The trio could see the outskirts of the wood now. They could feel its magical touch. It was said that amongst the squirrels, dear and birds who lived amongst the trees, there were magical creatures too, such as miniature dragons, unicorns, centaurs and fairy’s ,who danced upon four leaf clovers, yet know one new if it was true, some people thought the stories were rumours, a hoax but Oliver, Ellie and Alex believed or at least they wanted it to be real.
