The Mini-school

The Mini-school is the most incredible species of insect that has ever been discovered by humans. It’s excellent camouflage and low numbers made it undetected by scientists until recent years. Would you be able to recognise this dangerous insect?

While most insects are small and unharmful, the Mini-school is the exact opposite. It’s slim, scaly body is as tall as a book and it’s tail is as long as a fifteen centimetre ruler. It has the basic form of an insect, with its spindle-like legs and delicate wings, but also has a pair of wheel-like defensive shields that shoot out poison that can kill a human in 10 minutes.

The Mini-school habitat is normally schools but it has been known to live in the Arctic and the rainforest as well. They usually make their homes in dark stationary cupboards and lay their eggs there. The most interesting thing about the Mini-school is that they can lay up to 200 eggs at a time and can keep laying for 10 years!

The Anywhere Emporium-Chapter 2 By Gabriella

“My name is Veila Gold and this is my wolf, Silvia Gold please ignore her she can be quite moody sometimes,” Miss Gold exclaimed pointing at her white creature. “Will do!” Chasmeen replied giggling to herself. “Just remember to never go near my book of imaginations again or there will be consequences,” Gold said sternly glancing at her book.

Almost a second later, Gold had disappeared through a beautiful violet curtain and left Chasmeen alone with the book. As the temptation of the book built up inside of her the only thing keeping her away was a voice in her head, it was Miss Gold’s voice repeatedly saying consequences. She couldn’t take it the pressure and temptation had taken over her entire body as she turned to the door she found herself getting further away from the exit and closer to the book but then…

Rushing, to the book and opening it she felt a rush of relief seeing perfect drawings and notes about lakes and rivers, villages and towns. Her heart filled up with amazement.

After a few minutes, Chasmeen found herself with a pen in her hand. She drew like she had been practising for years. She sketched a village and sunset and then coloured in chalk. Tearing up, the last thing she drew was something she had always wished she had back.

“Come,” growled the wolf howling down the corridor. Chasmeen not knowing what as going to happen followed the beast. Coming to a stop Silvia ( the wolf ) scraped her claws on a freshly painted door staining her claws red. That feeling was back she was too tempted. She rapped her fist around the door handle and slowly opened it.

She stepped in but not into what she was expecting. Freezing as she was mesmerised by a cozy, old village were everyone knew each other, where it was always peaceful. But it wasn’t daytime the sun was just setting and the stars began to sit in the moonlight. Without hesitating she suddenly realised it was just how she had dreamt, the village, the sunset and it was exactly like what she had drawn in Miss Gold’s book. Before wasting anymore time Chasmeen quickly walked towards a pastel yellow gate.

The Anywhere Emporium By Gabriella

The empty Emporium sat alone on a street that had almost been forgotten and it seemed that it was invisible to the naked eye. When people did walk by they wouldn’t dare to even give it a glance. The sky was a dark inky colour and the rain added to the loneliness of the Emporium. The black Cat on the window sill even seemed to be frowning and the dolls on the shelves looked to be watching you at all times. Some people were to be called brave for opening the gate but that wasn’t the case for Chasmeen…

Chasmeen was was quite an adventurous girl for her age and she couldn’t go a day without finding something new so when she found the Emporium you can imagine how she reacted. Opening, the gate she rushed to get through the door as her glorious long dark hair got caught in the deadly black gate. When she untangled her hair she sprinted inside as she was surprised by  beautiful velvet birds circling her. It was a shadowy hallway but at the end there was a light she skipped to the light, excited about what was about to come her way. At the end of the hallway was a mesmerising room full with magical things that you would only see in films. Still hearing the tweets of the birds in the background her eyes were drawn to the shiny antiques on the pure white shelves. Running her fingers on the smooth untouched books the dust flew away like a bird when they see their next prey. Everything in the room seemed to amaze her but in the corner of her eye there was a book, but not an ordinary book it had a brown leather cover and it intrigued Chasmeen more than any other book did as she stepped closer the mysterious feeling of the book made her even more intrigued so she quickly grabbed the book and gracefully opened it, the words appeared as she read. Then all of a sudden, she heard a voice so she slowly turned around in shock, slammed the book shut returned it from where she found it and looked up to a very tall lady with precious, thin silver hair that just past her knees staring right at her then she spoke with a very calm quiet voice “I see you have found my book of imaginations.”

“I- didn’t k-know i-it was your-s,” she managed to mumble in fear. The tall lady called for a mythical creature and then a beautiful soft, white wolf jogged over to her feet and aimed its paw at the door telling Chasmeen to leave.

Warm Breeze By Gabriella

If I were summoned

to create a treasure

I would take:

my cat purring loudly when I stroke him,

the crackling noise when my Dad puts bacon on the stove

and my hamster nibbling loudly at a piece of carrot.

My Dog’s cute, little tail when I walk through the door,

pictures of when I was a baby

and my brothers’ faces when I have food.

The berry taste when I put lip balm on,

melted chocolate in my mouth

and the smell of Galloway’s cookies as I walk by.

Grass tickling my toes on a sunny morning,

getting into a comfy, hot bed after a cold, winter day

and the first sip of hot chocolate warming up my body.

The warm breeze as I step of the plane into Spain,

the smell of baby powder

and watching the cheese on my jacket potato melt.

The Imagination Emporium Chapter 1: Portal chair by Gabriella

The Imagination Emporium

Prologue

There are some places where no one goes,  even if it is right in front of their nose. The Imagination Emporium is one.

Even though at the saddest times it smiles when no one else does. Even though it burns brightly on the coldest nights. Even though it creates rainbows to make rain happier. Even though it stocks the supermarkets with endless supplies of the most delicious sweets. Even though it makes dreams come true for the worthy children with misery stained in their lives.

But no one has ever entered. The Emporium has never thought any child has ever been poor enough, needing enough. Many people have tried to find it but the location is so secret that even the Elders, the most knowledgeable people ever, don’t have a clue where it is. Until one day it changed. The history of the Emporium was shattered to a thousand tiny pieces. It was the day that Morrigan disappeared.

Chapter 1: Portal chair

Morrigan had never been able to fit in. Always the outsider, the one left alone. One downcast morning, she was trudging down Jupiter Lane to buy a loaf of bread for a week’s meal, after being teased and torchered by the town’s tyrannises. She stumbled into the town’s bakery and slumped into a chair by the counter. “How can I help you Morrigan?” Asked Mrs Lloyd brightly, only to find the chair that was occupied only moments ago was empty.

Whizzing through several chambers and corridors, at last she landed on a cold floor. In the moments it took for Morrigan’s eyes to adjust, she realised she had been potalised. Everywhere she looked, it was packed with wonders. A wall of mirrors stood to her right, showing her reflection in every direction.  Books littered the floor in front of her, next to a colossal bookshelf. Symbols in an ancient language lined the wall to her left, telling her instructions she would know. Every single toy you can imagine towered above her, some of them she didn’t even know. Morrigan was most interested in an old leather-bound book. As she approached it, a shadow was cast behind her.

“I see you’ve found my book of destinies,” hissed a voice. Gasping, she turned around, meeting the glare of an old man with electrocuted hair. A tarantula with a collar spelling ‘JACK’ sat on his hand. It settled down, staring at her disapprovingly.

The Magical Door Poem By Gabriella

Go and open the pink door,

maybe you’ll see

candy floss as fluffy as a cloud,

a pink but wet water bottle

or even a boiling hot ice cream.

Go and open the green door,

maybe you’ll see

a floppy dog moving round like a slinky,

a lazy slime

or the sickness feeling spreading across a village.

Go and open the yellow door,

maybe you’ll see

the sun smiling back at you,

a baby chick chirping round the room

or even a hot snowy breeze.

Go and open the blue door,

maybe you’ll see

eyes doing a staring contest with you,

a person froze into action like an icicle

or ice cream suffering from a brain freeze.

Go and open the red door,

maybe you’ll see

jelly sticking its tongue out at you,

anger spreading across a football field

or a car driving as slow as a slug.
