Airship – part 3 and 4

Part Three

Barry looked out of the circular glass window, all he could see was rippling water of blue and turquoise topped with white foam, they must have left England now – the green, gold and brown tapestry of fields had disappeared completely.

A bright gold flash pierced through the heavens vanishing into the ocean.  Barry felt a crumbling sound getting louder and louder until “BOOM!” – the sound almost burst his eardrums.

Just as he turned his head back to the tv, out of the corner of his eye there was a small line of green through the window that got bigger and bigger.  Suddenly he felt his stomach somersaulting –  the airship started to lurch down to greet the ground below.

Phoebe panicked and screamed “ THE ENGINE HAS FAILED!” but the crew softly reassured them that they were only landing.  The green patch was actually the island of Waterville.

Part Four

Barry recognised the name “Waterville”, where had he heard it before?  He put it to the back of his mind and gathered together his rucksack and water bottle.  The grass crunched when they landed.  “That’s strange” thought Barry, “it’s raining – how can the grass be so dry?”

Barry and Phoebe followed the crew to the exit and stepped out onto the dry, golden grass.  The grass was short and stubby and hurt their feet.  It even started to burn through the Captain’s old leather shoes.  It was as if the ground had been burnt.  The smell of bonfires dried their throats and stung their eyes.  The rain had suddenly stopped and everything was completely dry.

They walked across the fields until they reached a village.  Out of nowhere, the silence of the breeze changed to roaring and screaming.

Suddenly a scorching fire went over his head and he remembered where he had heard of Waterville before.  Barry started to hyperventilate.  Of course.  Waterville was the home to the Norse Dragons…

Ready to go!

“Lets go!” exclaimed Barry, his stubby fingers grasping the door handle. “ I DON’T WANT TO GO!” screamed Phoebe, her voice was trembling. “We have to go now or we’ll miss it. COME ON!”

They rushed down the street, Barry dragging his sister behind him. Just as Barry thought his legs wouldn’t work anymore ,they saw it. Filling up the whole field, the magnificent wood planks wrapped around the oak floor, beneath the mighty zeppelin.

“WOAH” said Barry in awe. He couldn’t believe what he had just seen, let alone that he would soon be traveling inside it for two weeks.

They went to inform the captain they were there but he was there to greet them. Captain Gerald’s big figure filled the doorway of the ship ,his beard as grey as steel. The steps to the door seemed to tremble as his big booming voice said “Welcome to the Star Grazer”

They followed Captain Gerald to their cabin, taking in the surroundings.  It looked… well marvellous.  There were pictures of all the captains there had ever been on the Star Grazer – in golden frames, their names listed below … Captain Gary Fitzgerald, Captain Tom Morris, Captain Sandra Goth.  Barry wished that one day, his picture would be there too.

In their cabin were two beds, with sheets of blue velvet as warm and comfortable as a mother’s embrace.  Maps of places Barry didn’t even know were on the walls.  Barry knew he was going to enjoy this next fortnight.  His sister’s face didn’t look quite so sure.

The engine slowly grumbled into life like a lion waking from a long slumber and everything shook.  The ship was ready to go.

On my airship trip

On my airship trip…

I will bring a magic cooking pot that makes my favourite foods – mozzarella sticks, kievs and a steaming, delicious margherita pizza.

On my airship trip…

I will bring a psychic parchment from a pair to communicate with the people I miss down below.

On my airship trip…

I will bring a blanket as fluffy as a puppy’s fur, as warm as a Summer’s day in Spain.

On my airship trip…

I will bring a towering telescope that can zoom to infinite magnification, turning the dots below into things I know.

On my airship trip….

I will bring a pot of dragon’s breath, as bright as the planet Mars, as fiery as the gates of Hell, to ward off any attackers.

On my airship trip…

I will bring a map of the world (and beyond) to guide me to my next destination.

On my airship trip…

I will bring an enchanted newspaper, which changes every day to tell me what I’m missing.

On my airship trip…

I will bring my best memories of the first time I saw snow, giggles with my friends, stroking the soft fur of my dogs and a warm mother’s embrace.

On my airship trip…

I will bring spare fuel!

You are…

You are the scent of an apple,
Tangy as a bee’s sting,
Fresh as a river’s spring.

You are a snappy crocodile,
Skin scales of algae green,
Chasing fish on the banks of the River Nile.

You are the chirp of a bluebird’s song,
Whistling as the sun rises,
Welcoming everyone to the day.

You are the sadness of a tear,
Rolling down a rosy cheek,
Dripping onto the cold floor.

You are the kick of a football,
Launching the ball through the air,
Scoring goals to make the crowd cheer.

You are the memory of a happy moment,
Warm and comforting,
Like a mother’s embrace.

You are the joy of opening presents,
On Christmas Day,
Excitement runs through your veins.

You are the laugh of a cackling witch,
Rough and bristly,
Happy at seeing people in peril.

You are a tiny shrub,
Struggling to grow,
Roots kicking at the ground,
Searching for water.

Skeleton Leaf

The skeleton leaf is a scaly armadillo shell rolling through the leaves
The skeleton leaf is an agent’s fingerprint appearing at the scanner
The skeleton leaf is ice, cracking as the child jumps wildly
The skeleton leaf is a circus, guarded by elephants with sprinkling squared necklaces round their beautiful skin
The skeleton leaf is like snakeskin, slithering and swirling like a wonderful worm
The skeleton leaf is like a piece of soggy sand swooshing through the wind like the Millennium Falcon fleeing through the galaxies
