The Secret Emporium Prologue
Gracie had never really been that curious. Until one day that all changed.
Walking up to her door she looked up from her bag looking for her keys. She wondered as she stared at the big black door standing there instead of her normal shed door. Gracie thought to herself. Her mom never told her she was getting a new door?…
Chapter 1-Through the door
Gracie sighed as the school bell rang. “Finally.” She said getting up to leave. As she left the class her friends said goodbye and she started to walk home. When she got to the traffic lights, she got a phone call from her mom saying she’s away to her friend’s house for a bit and won’t be back for a while. Gracie said OK and hung up the phone knowing her mum wouldn’t be back till she’s asleep.
When she got halfway up the path, she went to go get her keys from her bag. Turning round she looked at the shed door. She was surprised as her mom didn’t tell her they were getting a new for her shed. Gracie went to open the door, but the door didn’t budge. Gracie went and pushed the door. But it was VERY stiff, she pushed and pushed but it only opened a slither every time she pushed, and it opened a few centimetres. Gracie looked inside and she couldn’t believe her eyes. She pushed the door one more time and it finally opened. She walked inside but stopped in her tracks instantly….
Instead of her normal shed there in its place was a humongous room filled with millions of things.it smelled so sweet like chocolate pudding but at the same time smelled like a juicy steak, let’s just say whatever you wanted it to smell like it would. In the room there was a lot of things including weird, shaped clocks, antique China dolls that had so much detail that you would think they were real, there was teddy bears from all around the world, humongous balloons that were shaped as animals and people and all sorts of stuff, beautiful ruby red ruby scarfs made of the softest silk. If you wanted something I bet you, you’d find it. She heard someone walking behind her. When she turned around out from some black velvet, curtains came a young boy a few years older than her flicking through a big old book with a golden and black snake around his neck. He finally looked up and they just stared at each other for a while until the boy said something.
Chapter 2
“Welcome to my emporium, my name is John Will how can I help you.” Said John smiling. He went and put the big old book on a table. On the front it said, ‘The Book of Wonders’ “You can look around my shop if you like and buy anything you see but do not touch this book, it’s the one thing you can’t touch or buy. I’ll be back I need to go grab something from the back”. As soon as he finished his sentence he turned around and went back through the black curtains behind the till. Gracie was very confused, so she decided to just look around. Before he had come, she already had looked around, but it looked like more stuff had randomly appeared from nowhere.
When she got bored of looking around, she decided to peek behind the giant curtains was about a hundred halls that looked like they went on forever. And in every hall, there was millions of doors and staircases which must of lead to other halls more rooms. But one thing they was different about every door was that they had a unique design there wasn’t a single one that looked the same. It started to get cold, so she went back in the shop. On a table in the middle of the room was the book. She got to curios and decided to open the book.
Inside the book there was about half a page of writing and on the other half of the page was a drawing. As she read the book and looked at the drawings, she realised they were the same drawing on the doors in the back. Gracie flicked through the book not reading anything but just looking at the drawings, there was humongous flowing rivers that looked like they went on for miles, there was pictures of delicious plates of food, big deserts full of camels and jaint pyramids, there was a drawing of a crystal ocean with beautiful, coloured coral in all shapes and sizes and sharks that looked like they could eat you in one bite. She could go on and on about the drawings but there was to many. It seemed like the book was endless.
She saw a tub full of pens and pencils and a feather pen and some ink and decided to draw a picture of a tall grassy cliff on the edge of the sea as foam from the water splashed up. She didn’t realise what she had done until she had finished it. Gracie had a thought about John telling her not to touch the book. But she pushed it aside. A few minutes later she felt something cold slither up her back. It was John’s snake. She thought she had gone crazy when the snake jumped on the ground and hist “follow me please.” Then the snake started to slither behind the curtains. When it was halfway through the curtains she ran after it.
When she got to see fully behind the curtains, she was amazed. Behind the curtains was a whole new place. It looked big, and it was full of rooms with big pictures filling the whole door. The drawings on the door were nearly the same as the ones in the book. The snaked slithered to a long hallway filled with different shaped doors. At the very end of the hallway facing her and the snake was a door that looked like it had just been drawn on. The snaked hist at her “follow me.” So, she did.
When she got to the door she stopped and stared at it for a bit. On the door carved out and painted on it was a messy picture of a cliff over some water. After a few minutes of the snake and her staring at the door she put her hand on the smooth golden handle and twisted it. As soon as she opened a cool breeze swirled out the door. Inside was what she had just drawn. So, she stepped inside.
Chapter 3
As soon as she stepped in the door a cold breeze circled around her. She stopped and just looked around. Inside there was: a grassy cliff hanging over a foamy ocean; a flock of seagulls were hovering over the cliff edge as a cold wave whipped up and sprayed them; behind the birds was a beautiful sunset bursting with colours dancing in the sky; a bright golden sunset slowly disappeared behind the foamy bumpy waves.
She decided to walk to the edge of the cliff. When she got to the edge, she realised that the sun was already coming back up even though only a minute ago it was just disappearing? Then she also noticed that everything looked like it was repeating, like how the water would come up and spray the birds like it had when she got in the room? So, she decided to test something. She looked at the water for a bit and looked at how it would move and spray the birds. And then a few minutes later it would do the exact same thing.
Gracie got too busy looking at the sea and the birds that she didn’t realise that the door was slowly closing. Gracie walked along the cliff and looked down at the jaggy rocks. When she looked down Gracie realised that there were some stairs blending in with the rocks, leading down to what looked like a type of platform thing. So, she walked over to were the steps started and started to descend down them.
When she got about halfway down them, a big wave came and sprayed up the cliff edge just touching her legs. The water was refreshing on her legs as she was roasting. When Gracie got down to the bottom of the stairs she was soaking. She tried to dry herself off by standing in the sunlight but that wasn’t working. Gracie had no patience when her clothes didn’t dry in a few minutes, so she turned around to take a look. Behind her was a big cave which had a big oval entrance with smooth rocks surrounding the entrance. She wanted to go in, but she was scared that she would get lost. In the corner of her eye, she saw there was a torch in the middle of some bushes. Gracie went over and picked it up, and without thinking walked into the cave.
When she went in about ten feet, she couldn’t see anything, so she turned the torch on. Surprisingly it was really bright and powerful. Slowly, Gracie walked further into the cave. In the middle of the cave there were seven tunnels. They were all spread out around the room, some were smaller than other but still big and they were like a circle just lifting off the ground. Scarily Gracie’s torch went out. She screamed and tried to switch it back on, she had to hit the torch for it to go on. Then she saw it, in the corner of her eye she saw in the tunnel closest to the entrance something dashed in and disappeared. She didn’t move a muscle. Slowly Gracie turned around just a bit so she could see the tunnel better. Then a loud shriek echoed around the cave and out from the tunnel a dark creature emerged.
Gracie didn’t take a second to leave she heard the creature only a few feet behind her, so she ran faster than she had ran before. When she got out of the cave, she through the torch behind her. Gracie heard the creature scream in pain as the torch went and hit it right on the head.
Chapter 4
At this point Gracie was panting but she didn’t stop. Infact, she speeded up and went up the stairs three at a time. When she got to the top of the stairs, she looked around for the door. It was gone. When she noticed it was gone, she saw the thing from the cave was starting to go up the stairs. Exhausted Gracie sprinted looking around for the door to see if it maybe moved. She started to cry and then she went over to the cliffs edge and looked down at the foamy rocky water. In the water she could just make out a door like shape. And then she realised that the thing that looked like a door was actually a door. The door that she needed to get through.
She turned to look at the stairs she got to get a good look at it. It was on four legs, and it made a slime trail behind it. It had green spike type things coming out of his back, it had big talons coming out its feet and its tail was spiky on all sides. Its walk was sort of a limp, and it was going really slow, it was taking about three minutes to get up five steps because I don’t think it had ever gone out its cave or up, stairs before. Gracie started to think to herself how she was to get down to the door, because there was no stairs or tiny ledges any were. What Garcie didn’t know was that she had been taking so long to think about getting down that the creature had gotten to the top and was sneaking towards her.
Gracie turned to the stairs to see how far up it had got. It wasn’t there. Her mouth dropped open and her eyes were wide. Then she heard something behind her. In horror she swivelled round to see the creature sprinting towards her. It was about 10 feet away when she ran to the cliff edge, looked at the door in the water then looked at the creature. It was getting closer. Bravely she jumped.
The drop was at least 50 feet. Gracie closed her eyes and pulled her legs to her chest. When she hit the water, she thought it would be sore, but it wasn’t. When Gracie opened her eyes, she was in the water, she looked down and saw the door. It was quite far down but she could make it. Gracie looked up at the creature, it looked like it was going to jump. Bravely Gracie took a big breath in and went under. She wasn’t the best at swimming but that didn’t matter, all that mattered was that she got to the door. Gracie got about halfway down to the door when she heard a big SPLASH. Scaredly Gracie turned around to see that the creature thing had jumped in. Gracie tried to scream but nothing came out. Gracie only had to swim a few more feet till she reached the door. The creature started to paddle towards her so Gracie kicked even harder. She was desperate for a breath, but she kept kicking. When Gracie grabbed the door handle, she felt something tugging at her shirt. It was the creature. She held on to the door handle and twisted it. Luckily since the creature was tugging on her shirt it opened the door for her. As soon as the door opened the creature let her go and swam to the top. When the door opened Gracie was about to pass out. So, with all her strength she pulled herself out. The weird thing is that the water didn’t fall out of the door it was like gelly and never left the room. Gracie was panting like a dog. She could hardly breath. Happily, she lied on the floor with her clothes and hair soaking. Then she fell asleep.
When Gracie Wolk up she was back in the front of the shop laying on a sofa. Her and her clothes were completely dry. “Did you have a good time”. Spoke John. “I see you took the book”. “I’m so sorry I didn’t know what would happen if I-” John stopped Gracie from talking and said. “It’s fine just NEVER do it” John said.” Oh, and also Im so sorry but were closing so im going to have to ask you to leave”. Gracie stood up and started to leave. John held the door open as she walked out. “I’ll see you tomorrow”. And with that he shut the door. Outside was dark and her mum’s car was in the driveway. Gracie turned around to look at the emporium, but the door was gone. She thought to herself about what just happened. At this point she didn’t care. Exhaustedly she went to her front door and went in. Her mum was waiting for her at the dinner table. She sat down and looked at the at the shed door. “See you tomorrow” she said to herself. ” See you tomorrow” She laughed at herself while eating her dinner.
