The Lel Coleoptera Part 1 Sebastien SWW

The Lel Coleoptera ( Cobra beetle )

The Lel Coleoptera ( Believed to have gone extinct 5 million years ago) is an unusual and extraordinary insect that has only recently been sighted again in Australia’s Great Victoria Desert. Scientists are bewildered to how this insect has kept hidden for this amount of time and how many more are there. It’s abilities have made it one of the most fascinating insects to have been discovered on planet earth. Entomologists have stated that is a wonder of evolution as it is perfectly adapted to its environment. Would you recognise this Cobra beetle?

Like a normal insect, it has the same body parts: head, thorax abdomen, mandibles and antennae. Uniquely, it looks like a cross between a scorpion and a beetle. As the Lel Coleoptera is the size of a Mini, it needs to eat about 100 giant tree weta grubs a day. Additionally, it will sometimes eat it’s own kind. It has an iridescent shell with two large wing cases on the thorax, each holding two wings. It’s long segmented tail can stand up to a height of 13 foot and can spray a deadly neurotoxic and cytotoxic venom. It has two claws that allow it to grip its prey to prevent escape. On the back of its armoured head it has a third eye, like a Bearded Dragon. Contrary to popular belief, it can not see like its other eyes but it can detect changes in light. This allows it to avoid airborne predators.

Generally, the Lel Coleoptera has mandibles that are far too large for it’s size. This allows it to carry larger prey back to its burrow. Being so large, you would expect it to be rather clumsy, however, its compound eyes and four wings allow it to be very nimble. Incredibly, this insect can run at speeds up to 65 miles an hour! Unbelievably, it does not not need another one of its kind to reproduce as both male and female Cobra beetles can produce fertilised eggs! The Lel Coleoptera has developed a shell that their abnormally hot blood heats up to temperatures of up to 45 degrees Celsius, allowing it to burn predators. This range of abilities make scientists question if this creature originated on another planet.

The Emporium of Secrets Part 4 Sebastien SWW

He turned to face the demon-fish, heart pounding like an African Drum. Panting like a dog, The creature laughed a bloodcurdling gurgling laugh. Its prey had no escape.

Chapter 4 The Escape

Sam backed against a tree. Through the beast’s legs, he saw a tunnel in the side of the pond. He charged through its legs and racing dived towards it. Seconds later, the demon plunged in after him. Swimming through the entrance, Sam was relieved to find the fish could not get in the tunnel. The tunnel sloped up and he burst to the surface, gasping for air.

As going back was not an option, he walked along the tunnel for a few minutes. Soon he came to a vertical wall. Although the stone was rather slippery, it had lots of cracks that would be useful to climb with. He could see light at the top. Like a sly spider, and using the practice he had done at school, Sam swiftly scaled silently up.

At the top, he ran at the opening. He leapt through and landed, heart pounding, on the floor of the Emporium’s Mansion of Mysteries. He looked around. He was safe from that terrible place. But what exactly had happened?

Returning to the shop front, Sam saw Sarctious waiting for him.

Eventually, he found a door saying THE POND OF PEACE. The door was surprisingly light as he pushed.

He appeared in a forest with a crystal clear pond in the middle. A growl came from the pond. He had just drawn a fish; what was making that noise?

Chapter 3 The Pond Of Peril

Distracted from the noise (which he disregarded as imagination) he took in the Pond of Peace. The summer forest had trees laden with fruit: peaches, mangoes and sweet apples. In the centre, a deep, warm clear pond, that was surrounded by cherry blossom trees, rippled gently in the light breeze. The warm wind calmed him from the great excitement he had been feeling in this incredible Emporium. This room certainly matched its name. The book of secrets must be very powerful to create this amazing thing. A perfect cobbled path stretched to the gleaming mirror in the centre. Swiftly, a lark soared above the serene scene below.

Without warning, a monstrous head full of needle teeth and two fury-filled eyes, like evil beacons, reared up at the lark. Within seconds, the monstrous fish had slammed its jaws around the poor bird and tumbled into the pond again. Petrified, Sam stared at the spot the fish had been. Before he could move, the beast had locked on a new target and was swimming towards it. The target was Sam. At lightning speed, the fish leapt and Sam ran. The monster powered after. It had huge algae covered legs! He ran towards the path where the door was. As he rounded the corner, he realised that the door was gone! He turned to face the demon-fish, heart pounding like an African Drum. Panting like a dog, The creature laughed a bloodcurdling gurgling laugh. Its prey had no escape.

The Emporium of Secrets Part 2 Sebastien SWW

“I see you have found my book of secrets, Sam,” a sharp voice cut in. A man in a golden suit stepped out from behind a pile of chests, his eyes like tempests of magic and anger.

Chapter 2
Rules broken

“That is MY book,” the man said, affectionately stroking the book’s cover.
” I didn’t know it was yours, I’m sorry!” Sam blurted.
” Calm down, you can still look around the shop, just don’t touch the book,” he replied. Sam nodded. The man turned to go and said, “My name is Sarctious Copper.” With that, he strolled through a gold curtain Sam had not noticed before.

Despite Sarctious’ warning, Sam could not resist the book. He sat at the desk and scanned the pages. He found an idea for a room. It was a pond. Not that interesting. Sam decided to change it. Perhaps a creature in the pond. He picked up a rose-quartz pen and began to draw. He drew for five minutes before dropping the pen and headed to the Mansion of Mysteries. He knew to head there because the title in the book said so. Eventually, he found a door saying THE POND OF PEACE. The door was surprisingly light as he pushed.

The Emporium of Secrets

Prologue

The Emporium of Secrets used to be full of visitors: until a secret escaped. It was a terrible secret. Destroying half of the city and much of the Emporium with it, the Emporium had used its time-manipulating capabilities to reverse the damage to the city. But it could not rebuild itself.

Despite it being rebuilt, years later by the owner, and having an open sign hung above the ebony door and the shop front being packed with fascinating items, still no one ever came again. They did not not know what had happened to the secret. They were scared. The owner of the Emporium tried his best with piles of sweets, treasures, jewels, charms, books and many more incredible objects stacked in the windows. But everyone was too frightened. The Emporium was being forgotten. It was now known as ‘the old shop at the back of the ally’. The owner was still waiting for customers.

The Emporium seemed as if it would never have customer again. Until Sam arrived. He changed everything.

Chapter 1
The Emporium of Secrets

Sam was bored. He had been wandering down the alleys for hours, looking for shelter before the bus came to collect him for school. A glint of copper caught his eye. Above him, the sun was hidden by the storm clouds. Deciding to investigate this mysterious glint, he trudged off down the ally .

It turned out to be an old shop at the end of the ally. The sign said that the Emporium of Secrets was open. From the state of the sign, it looked as if ‘the Emporium of Secrets’ had been open for a long time. He thought it would be a perfect place to get out of the rain. Brushing the droplets of water of his waterproof coat, he stared around.

Many thousands of items lined the walls. Precariously piled books, crystal floors, and hundreds of thousands of golden and gemstone trinkets. Snow globes were piled on shelves, candles glittered in a jade dragon chandelier mouth and a golden falcon wing table was suspended by obsidian chains to the unimaginably high ceiling. A copper bench was suspended in the same way with ruby stairs leading up to it. A robotic dragon soared around, occasionally breathing a spurt of green fire. At the back of the shop, orange doors embedded with millions of golden patterns had a sign above them reading THE MANSION OF MYSTERY. Another door, with the same patterns, had a sign above it which read THE CELLAR OF SECRETS.

The copper glint came again. It was on the Falcon-wing desk: a book with a cover made of something that looked like scales. The title read, The Secrets of…

A recipe for Wonder Sebastien SWW

To create Wonder, take:
the unforgettable look of a bearded dragon tilting its head,
staring at you with eyes filled with joy.

Melt in the venom-filled fang of an Inland Taipan,
the irresistible smell of freshly baked sponge cake
and a vial of arachnophobia, reaching out with curls of smoke to spread its potent fear.

Grate in the touch of a bearded dragon’s back scales,
both rough and smooth
and a chip from an ancient Aqrabuamelu’s tail sting.

Serve this concoction in a dragon-skull bowl, stirred with a spoon made from a minotaur’s bone and Dakuwaqa’s tooth.

Rooms by Sebastien SWW

Go and open the door
the one with the markings spelling IMAGINATION,
and maybe you will see a world full of colour and life.
Or will you see an abyss of nothing.

Go and open the door
the one that is painted a tiger orange,
you could see a silent sunset sinking slowly, retreating below the horizon.

Go and open the door
the one that has silver birch panels
and maybe there will be a forest full of foxes, deer and birds.

Go and open the door
the one that is painted as white as a graceful dove,
maybe you will become an albino dolphin, swimming in the sea of endless clouds.

Go and open the door
the one painted like a zebra
you will see a gleaming light in the room of darkness.

Go and open the final door
the one that is a different colour depending on who looks at it,
and you will see whatever you want.
