Prologue
you probably have been to the summer-paradise-beach. In summer, you probably attended local fairs, let your parent stay on the decking and ran on beaches to your hearts content, or spent days with your face full of joy. You probably got taken to our state of the art dinosaur exhibit. It’s a fantastic place… in the summer
But in winter, you probably felt the creeping cold climb up your spine. You should try being there when the dull darkness has taken over. I dare you to be there when the beach fog lurks and bad things happen. Few people visit then. Even citizens insist on staying away from the beach… and rumours say, there is good reason.
Chapter 1
My name is Andrew Maguire I work at the dinosaur exhibit. I am the caretaker. I polish the bones, arrange the fossils and clean the windows. I make sure everything is up to tip top shape. People say my job is boring but I am a major control freak so I love my job. I have a massive bedroom where I sleep with a fire place for winter, double bed and a minifridge. I do not feel loneliness so I enjoy the night, but I still like the day time when there is lots of people. It’s not as busy in the winter though.
A little girl bangs at the window and spits, “let me in ” with a shivering face. I gaze not at all sure what to do. It is 12.00pm and the exhibit is closed. She looks at me with the most cold and desperate eyes I have ever seen. Suddenly, my body had decided to open the door, but in my head I thought this might be a bad idea. She sprinted in and stopped. She whispered into my ear, “hide me!”
Before I continue with what happens next, there is a tale about the town of Troon you need to hear.
It ages back to the 1700s, the was a rumour that a dark monster roams these parts. It only comes out at night, it has a tall crocked stance, it was the Pengumander! Apparently, it is a variety of mander, a deep descendent of the local legends’ malamander, it leaves footprints like dinosaurs, claws like steel and a beak of mossy stone. It smells of rotten flesh and dried out seaweed and a hint of seabass. Any weapon it wields is made of the bones of its enemies. Some say they hear it screeching in the night. some say that they have seen the silhouette. some even say that they have been touched by one. Is it true?
People think that the creature was in pain. People think that it is made up. People think that they are a descendent of the pengumander. I have never encountered it, but the wind does speak in the darkness. But I might be mistaken by the horrible screech of the pengumander!
“What do you need to even hide from?” I spit back. “what’s the matter?”
“I’ve witnessed it!” She says, “lock the door- draw the curtains!”
