The Mask…

The white mask is made from,

the clouds drifting by,

the delicious cream on a birthday cake,

and the stars falling from the sky.

The red mask is made from,

the blood red chillis,

silky rose petals,

and poppies from the battlefields.

The orange mask is made from,

the skin of a carrot,

marmalade cats dancing around the fire,

and tiger’s fur stripped from it’s owner.

The green mask is made from,

a prickly cactus,

a soft tuft of mint,

and the scales of a lizard.

The blue mask is made from,

a gas fire flame,

water from the Pacific Ocean,

and grapes growing on the vine.

The grey mask is made from,

ash fresh out a volcano,

an old elephant,

and a wolf’s coat.

The black mask is made from,

the hot tarmac,

shattered black stained glass,

and a car tyre rolling down the hill.

The pink mask is made from,

the feathers of flamingos,

the velvety feel of cherry blossom,

and cotton.

The yellow mask is made from,

the zest of a lemon,

the stars like diamonds underground,

and a ripening banana.

The brown mask is made from,

a lion’s mane,

chocolate coloured conkers,

and tree bark.

The multicolour mask is made from,

a kaleidoscope of colours,

the pigments snatched from a rainbow,

and the iridescent scales of a fish.

Episode 1 The Mystic Museum

Mystic Museum

Prologue

There is this creepy place on one ever goes. Very few people know of it. This strange place is called The Mystic Museum.

Even though there are marvellous models. Even though there are exhilarating agricultures. Even though you can put your hand on the chilly stonewall of the Museum and your heart feels warm. Even though there are fairy lights strung across the celling. Even though the lovely smells from the café’s fish and chips waft through the door. Even though there are spectacular skeletons.

However, on one ever dared to enter because the heavy acacia door always seemed to be under lock and key. The windows are crisscrossed with ion bars. Not a human body entered the Museum that was until Aly.

Chapter 1

The Book

Aly was never in his house apart from mealtimes. He just felt the pull of adventure more than the pull of his aggravating family. Aly was always wondering around the rain stained streets of Edinburgh in search of adventure. However, today was different; his mother – Clara was horribly sick. The doctor had come, said Clara needed sleep more than ever, and Aly should get her some pills from the chemist. Aly agreed to this so started climbing down the spiral staircase of the block of flats at speeds he did not even know he could go.

Once he was out of the flat and into Cocktail Street Aly crossed the road at a run. All the while, he thought of his mother and if she would soon be fit again.

Aly ran and ran passing though dark, grey alleys, bustling streets and busy markets. Just one more corner to go until he came to the chemist. Aly turned the corner and in his wake, a small, mossy building with Chemist entitled on the musty wall. Aly noticed a large notice on the door; it read Closed. “Dang!” Raged Aly bashing the hard oak door, “I could have sworn the chemist is open on Saturdays.” Then all of a sudden, Aly caught site of a shop he’d never see before; it had darkened, brass windows and what looked to be a heavy acacia door. Aly’s fury vanished; it just all looked so interesting. He walked over to the mystery shop and peered through the dimed window – what he saw inside was astonishing; there were fairy lights, the statue of Liberty, Mosasaurs skeleton and a frighteningly strong smell of fish. Aly had never seen anything like it, and how did the Statue of Liberty even get in the shop? It was just to mind blowing. Soon Aly’s curiosity got the better of him and he found himself stepping through the door….

Inside Aly found that, the walls were yellow and blue. It was all very strange, too strange he thought. There was no one at the desk, but a heavy, brown book lay open on a nearby table. Aly jogged over to it and read the title – Mystic secrets. “What the?” he said aloud. “Who dares enter the Mystic Museum?” Said a stony voice from behind a velvet curtain.

The Chimp’s Tale

The Chimp’s Tale

If I were summoned

to create a treasure,

I would take:

The scaly shell of a Galapagos Tortoise,

The fall of snow on the tops of the Alps

and a handful of Bigfoot’s musty hair.

The piercing tip of a Viking sword,

Harry’s invisibility cloak

and the rainbow beak of a puffin.

The sound of a steam train’s whistle,

The money from the rich to give to the poor,

The lava flow from Mount Etna

and fresh moon – cheese.

The frothy foam of the Pacific Ocean,

The bark from an ancient oak,

The rough edge of the grim reaper’s scythe

And a tail from a Chimp.

Go Open The Door

Woody’s Door

Go and open the crimson door,

maybe there is –

a volcano spitting out red hot firry lava on to a near-by village,

a chunky paper cut stinging someone’s finger.

Go and open the pineapple door,

maybe there is –

a buzzing bee slowly collecting pollen for its queen,

the sun rapidly grilling Greenland.

Go and open the soot door,

maybe there is –

a lump of coal scrapping its way along a hard wood floor only to end up drawing a circle,

the forever-long night sky tinkling with bright suns.

Go and open the lapis door,

maybe there is –

a dolphin diving to try to catch a Paracanthurus hepatus,

a navy eye staring right at you.

Go and open the violet door,

maybe there is –

a purple grenadier creepily watching you,

blackberry jam neatly spread across a slice of toast.

Go and open the pear door,

maybe there is –

a lime rolling around a gleaming glass table only to fall off and land on a thick, mint coloured carpet,

a tree frog leaping from tree to tree.

Episode 4 The Griffin.

Episode 4 The Griffin.

Katie thought she was going to scream but she just managed to hold it in. The griffin edged slowly closer and Captain Yan Herk quietly drew his sword, this however was a mistake; the griffin leaped right at Herk beak wide open…… but mid-leap Captain Yan Herk swung his great sword and gashed the griffin’s side. The wound wasn’t deep, it was enough however to make the griffin rear up on its hind legs and screech. In the process of it all Captain Yan Herk dropped Roy so Katie had to hold him all by herself. Katie just couldn’t manage so Roy fell to the ground and cried out in shocked pain.

Yan Herk swung again, this time making a deep gash in the griffin’s side quite close to the last; that made the griffin screech once more, it was so loud that Katie felt like screeching herself. And then in a flash the griffin dashed away back into the trees. “That’s a relief.” Roy said half muttering. “We must get to the village and fast” explained Captain Yan Herk while picking up a limp Roy.

The three set off, the walk was slow although they were going as fast as they could. This was because in places the ground was very rough and stony. Katie thought of home and how she wished she was there, oh how she wished to see the friendly faces of her family again.

The journey took hours but eventually Roy cried out “There’s the village!” and Katie sighed in relief at the thought of a warm, dry bed. When they came to the village they asked a farmer if there was a healer and the farmer said: “There’s a healer at the far-side of the village just over yonder” pointing to a substantial sized house as he spoke.

They came to the house and left Roy with the healer. The healer said that Roy should hopefully be walking again in no time……

Two days later Roy was struggling off the bed in the healer’s house. From what the healer had said Roy should finally be able to walk again, today. His first step was wobbly but he soon got the hang of it. Looking around the house Roy realised that it was rather strange, familiar perhaps but he just couldn’t put his finger on it. Roy thought he could hear some strange noises coming from the room next door. He stumbled over to the door and opened it a crack. Inside he saw what he thought to be a mysterious creature-like-thing, but he couldn’t quite make it out because the room was too dark…….

Episode 3 A Creature.

Episode 3 A Strange Creature.

They walked on, Katie carrying one end of Roy and Yan carrying the other. Katie kept looking around trying to spot the creature she thought she had seen half way through their journey.

They passed by a thick clump of bushes, Roy thought to himself: This could be where Katie’s creature is hiding. Then out of the blue Katie yelled “I see something.” Katie didn’t yell so loud this time but it still pushed Roy’s eardrums to the limit. Katie was pointing to the North; the opposite direction to the bushes, she was only just managing to hold Roy up with one hand while pointing.

Roy asked “What is it?” But when he looked North himself he saw a magnificent creature with long leathery gold wings, a curved sharp black beak like a scythe and piercing red eyes. “What is…. That?” Roy asked in a whisper. “That my friend is a griffin; one of the world’s rarest creatures and also one of the most dangerous.” Captain Yan Herk whispered back.

“What shall we do?” Katie said in a hushed tone. “We stand still and wait for it to go” replied Captain Yan Herk “And we keep quiet.” They all stood and waited but the griffin never went. Roy thought that the griffin could probably sense that there was someone around and was waiting for them to move. Sometime later the griffin came dangerously near to them……….

Episode 2 The Stargrazer is Dead.

Episode 2 The Stargrazer is Dead.

The dragon still thrashing about in the remains of the Stargrazer, Captain Yan Herk helped Roy and Katie get out of the burning skyship and onto the tree. The dragon followed in pursuit and let out another fiery breath that seared Katie’s hair. She screeched and almost toppled off the tree.

Captain Yan Herk bellowed “jump!!!!” and Roy heard the others land on the ground but he was too scared to jump because the tree was so tall. Roy took a deep breath and jumped just before the dragon stepped on him.

When Roy landed he thought he had broken his leg and he cried out in pain. The others soon came and carried him to a cave that was under the tree. The dragon didn’t come after them because the dragon couldn’t see them and anyway the trees were very thick and very tall almost blocking out all the light in the forest. Once they were in the cave Captain Yan Herk said: “As soon as the dragon has gone we will go to the nearest village and hopefully get some help”. Roy didn’t like the sound of that hopefully, not one bit…….

When the dragon had finally taken off some hours later, they all went out of their cave, Katie and Herk carrying Roy. Katie looked up and saw their faithful skyship was close to ashes and right on cue Roy said in a jokey manner “The Stargrazer is dead”.

Suddenly Captain Yan Herk shouted out “I think I see a village!” Katie and Roy let out a cry of relief. Soon the three set off, Roy helped by the two others. They were about half way there when Katie let out a sudden squeal and pointed “There there!!!!” her squeal was so loud it almost burst Roy’s eardrums. “What is the matter there’s nothing there” Roy said. But Roy still wondered if there was really something there…….

Stargrazer

Stargrazer

You’ve seen a skyship or if you’re lucky you might have been on one. It’s a lovely ride isn’t it? Rocking gently in the breeze high above the clouds looking down on everything in sight, the sun out and you just seem to have all the time in the world. It’s lovely right?

But you’ve not witnessed a skyship in the cold, wet and wind have you? When the engines have started to break down and you’re holding on the hand railing for dear life, when the ship has been struck by lightning or a dragon is trying to tear you to shreds or maybe something even worse……

Story Opening

Roy fell flat on his face as the Stargrazer shook violently in the stormy skies, Katie held out a hand and helped haul him back onto his feet. A moment later they both crashed to the floor as the Stargrazer suddenly jolted.

Once they got up Katie thought she saw a strange shape circling the skyship far above. Suddenly the shape swooped down and landed slap bang on the deck. She screamed as the dragon let out a fiery breath which seemed as hot as the sun. The skyship started to burn!

Roy bellowed at the top of his voice to captain Yan Herk “land this crazy craft!!!!” The ship started into a steep dive. Roy nearly fell off and the dragon nearly fell on top of him! As the skyship plummeted downward he saw Katie fall off the skyship and land in a crumpled heap on the ground. A moment later the burning skyship landed stern first in a tree……
