A Sky Ship Adventure by Yaashana S TJS

Scarlett sat in the midst of all the chaos, unable to participate in landing the Sky ship as her leg was still bleeding after the last encounter with a dwarf. Her mother, the Captain of the “Odyssey” turned through a narrow corner making her body jolt forwards. Then she heard it, a loud roar coming from beneath the Air Ship, abandoning the crimson cloth she had been pressing on her wound she ran over to the deck. A dragon was eating the starboard side of the Ship.

Without a moment to react, the ‘Odyssey’ dropped at an alarmingly fast rate. Captain Jones was trying with all her might to steer the ship into an empty forest that seemed uninhabited. Jason spotted Scarlett lying on the deck and panting so he ran over to see what had traumatised her this much but there was no time as the ‘Odyssey’ landed with an immense ‘THUD’ blowing him clean off his feet.

Surrounding them was what looked like a Forbidden Forest. All glimpses of light were shielded by the green bushes and a sycamore proudly stood as if guarding an entrance to a secret world. In the distance, all that could be seen was the ruins of an abandoned house.

All the members of the crew had decided to look for food and see if they could find any planks of wood or twigs for a fire and to fix the Sky Ship. This meant that Scarlett and Jason were alone on the wreckage with only the protection of one instruction; ‘Do Not Leave the Ship’. Just at that moment Jason heard a growl.

A Forgotten Friend by Yaashana S TJS

A second’s silence later, Scarlett carefully rotated her head and spotted a large winged creature hovering in the air above her. Anxiously, she quickly limped over to her cabin and locked the door, leaving Jason to fight this beast on his own.

Jason quickly ran over to the port side of the ship and peered into the black abyss of the creature’s stomach. Surprisingly, this mysterious beast lowered itself making it face to face with Jason. His hands were shaking uncontrollably which was unusual for his personality as nothing could normally frighten him. A slender figure emerged from the scaly mammal. “W..w…who are you?” Jason stuttered still shell-shock from the events of the past hour. Unfortunately for Jason, this visitor wasn’t present to chat, it was present to find Scarlett.

The stranger hammered on the wooden door separating the unwelcomed visitor and Scarlett who at that exact moment was trembling on the wooden floorboards. Jason bravely stepped forwards and asked the same question he had asked before but in a more confident voice. This time the visitor answered, “ I’m Avery, I would like to join the crew.”
“No it can’t be you, Avery was Scarlett’s and that Avery went missing 10 years ago when she was 5!” Just then, a whistle blast pierced the air signalling the arrival of Scarlett’s mother, Captain Jones.

What is…? By Yaashana S- TJS @Home

What is fragile? My mother’s flower vase, my sister’s china mugs and a woman’s broken heart.
What is unbreakable? The rule of humans, the eternity of space and love.

What is weary? A new mother with her baby, NHS workers and a battered suitcase.
What is bitter? The sharp tang of a lemon, a beggar’s soul and the wind slapping your face.

What is sly? A fox eyeing its prey, a cunning wolf and the constant English weather.
What is light? A paper plane, a sheet of stickers and a hen’s feather.

but I have played with a crimson toy dragon.

but I have eaten a Mars bar.

but I have seen and played with some.

I’ve never seen an alien from outer space,
but I have seen Sarah in a face mask.

I’ve never been a princess,
but I have dressed up as Aurora on World Book Day.

The Beauty of Winter Yaashana S TJS

The Beauty of Winter

Glistening like stars,

icicles hang from ceilings

Ice spreads like wildfire.

Anxious snowmen wait,

shivering in the cold,

for a warm hand.

The fireplace roars like

a hungry lion begging

for a juicy piece of  meat.

Steam rises from the

While children play in the cold

hot cup of hot chocolate.
