A Forgotten Friend by Yaashana S TJS

A second’s silence later, Scarlett carefully rotated her head and spotted a large winged creature hovering in the air above her. Anxiously, she quickly limped over to her cabin and locked the door, leaving Jason to fight this beast on his own.

Jason quickly ran over to the port side of the ship and peered into the black abyss of the creature’s stomach. Surprisingly, this mysterious beast lowered itself making it face to face with Jason. His hands were shaking uncontrollably which was unusual for his personality as nothing could normally frighten him. A slender figure emerged from the scaly mammal. “W..w…who are you?” Jason stuttered still shell-shock from the events of the past hour. Unfortunately for Jason, this visitor wasn’t present to chat, it was present to find Scarlett.

The stranger hammered on the wooden door separating the unwelcomed visitor and Scarlett who at that exact moment was trembling on the wooden floorboards. Jason bravely stepped forwards and asked the same question he had asked before but in a more confident voice. This time the visitor answered, “ I’m Avery, I would like to join the crew.”
“No it can’t be you, Avery was Scarlett’s and that Avery went missing 10 years ago when she was 5!” Just then, a whistle blast pierced the air signalling the arrival of Scarlett’s mother, Captain Jones.
